    Hi everyone,

I'm not new, but haven't posted in a while.  I was dx in May 2006 with Stage II breast cancer in left boob, had bilateral mast (prophylactic), dense dose AC/Taxol, and one year of herceptin, which I finished in september 07 (yay).  Had all my scans, etc, and am cancer free...

now, for the past month or so, I have been having this strange problem:  dry nasal passages, stuffy nose, and what feels like sore, scabby areas inside my nose (yes I did the exploring myself, courtesy of pinky finger).  It's got me a little worried, because it hasn't gone away, and I cannot now blame it on Herceptin.  (herceptin made my nose run, but I didn't have any other real symptoms). I'm going to see anose doc, but i wonder..

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?  Thought I'd ask.  It is freaking me out a bit.

    thanks

    lor

I have experienced this all my life, but cancer had nothing to do with it.  I have very bad sinus problems, so does my son, and we both suffer with the problems you are explaining.  Get some plain saline spray from the drug store and use it a couple times a day.  That always helps relieve our symptoms.  For us things are always worse when the seasons change, especially in the winter when the heaters first start coming on.

Many of us noticed sinus trouble for the first time about cytoxin (the C in A/C). For me it was particularly bad in teh first year and has gotten better.

Another suggestion is to use a child's cold humidifier in your bedroom at night.  It could really help.

I was never allergic to anything until about 15 years ago.  The allergies seem to get progressively worse.

I am currently experiencing exactly what you describe - my nose feels itchy and dry, and sore to the touch.  It's very unsettling - I am going to try the saline spray to try and find some relief.

YES! I have this all of the time. I think it is because most of our nose hairs are gone and certain cells were killed in there. There are times I want to stick vaseline up there it is so dry!!

    It isn't just you.

Yes, I also have this problem.  It started when the weather started to change.  I have dry nasal passage and sores in my nose.  At one point my nose was so dry it would bleed when I would blow it.  I did some googling and was not really worried because I know that AI's can cause dryness and I know that chemo did a number on my nasal passages.  I just figured it was related in some way.  Also, I have little sores on my scalp and have had them since my hair grew back.

Also know if you are on any antidepressants as many of us are--some of them have antihistamine

effects--so dry nasal passages can occurr in fact I not only developed that but sebboreic dermatitis on my eyebrows, hairline, ears, side of my nose----scabing everywhere.

Never made the association till it dissapeared upon cessation of the medication.
