Hello , I wasnt sure where to post this. But heres my question.I just recently started taking effexor.I take one 37.5 mg in morning and one 37.5 mg at night. The morning one mi can take just fine but the one i take at night makes me feel strange and kind of sick feeling.Does this happen to anybody else? My dr said to give it time.Could my other meds at night mixed with this make me feel like this.I would think the dr would know this right.

Im kinda scared to keep taking it but ive also heard that it works wonders.Help.

I too am on Effexor to combat side effects of Tamoxifen. Have you tried taking your second one earlier in the day like maybe at supper with some food? Might help the sick feeling. If that doesn't work then I suggest talking to your doctor and having your dosage cut back or even just cutting it back yourself and see how that works for a couple of weeks. I started at 37.5 MG once a day for the first 6 months and have only recently had the dosage upped.
Let me know how you make out

    Hi Rooni,

I also just started on Effexor XR about a week ago. I did read on the instructions that you are to "take with food".
Maybe you should take it with dinner instead of bedtime.
The only side effect that I am experiencing is restlessness at night. It has definitely ended my hot flashes which is a plus! I do know once you start this medication, you should continue unless you speak with your doctor.

Hope you are able to find what works best for you...

    huggs, Sherry

I started taking the effexor XR 3 weeks ago..one week at 37.5...that went fine...took it AM with food.....went up to 75 the second....at the end of the second week on the 75 I felt like I was on speed...no sleep and felt wired. Yesterday I called the doc and he brought me back to 37.5. It took one day of no meds to get over the wired feeling. Tomorrow I start the 37.5. The 75 helped with the hot flashes but the wired feeling was bad.
Sooo we will see how the 37.5 does.....may have to suffer with the hot flashes:O(

    Take care,
    Hilda

I take my 75 in the morning with my Femara. Easier for me to remember that way. I usually don't eat right away. I have no problems with it. As a matter of fact since I switched from Lexapro to Effexor I feel 100% better.

I take effexor xr 75 mg started in Jan pre BC at first it made me feel jumpy and wired too as well s slighty nausiated. I now take it in the am with my latter whihc I use a little more milk than I used to and I drink an 8 oz glass of water. I no idea it would be prescribed to help side effects of cancer drugs so I guess I am one step ahead in this arena. I take it for panic but I hear it is used for depression which I am starting to exp. with eh new dx. good luck to you sweetie.Kiss

I started effexor xr 37.5 mg about a week ago for the side effects of tamoxifen and I am amazed at how quickly the hot flashes have decreased. I was up 4 times a night before and seemed to be hot all day. Now I have maybe one hot flash and I am getting the rest I need to continue my recovery.

My concern is do you have to increase the effexor over time and some of the scary things I have heard about withdrawls has me second guessing if I should keep taking it or stop while I am ahead.

Hi, I was just diagnosis with BC and had the lumpectomy.  I am not on the cancer drugs yet but the hot flashes are already a bother.  Doc prescribed Effexor-Xr 37.5 but I thought I would do some research first.  Since these drugs scare me.  I can't wait till the doc puts me on Arimidex and the hot flashes get worse.  Can't imagine.  If you have to up the dosage of the Effexor than your hooked, Right?  Does anyone wish they wouldn't have taken Effexor?

I tried to quit taking Effexor due to weight gain.  I also found that I felt hot all of the time on it.   The withdrawals were astounding.

I had old Rx Prozac  took it to get through the brain zaps and surges.
