Does anyone else go to postsecret.com?

I am an addict...love the site.  It is basically an ongoing public art project.  Everyone is invited to send in a postcard with a secret on it.  A few are chosen each week and posted. It is somehow voyeuristic, but every week I go and read the postcards. 

 Anyway...this week there are 2 that are cancer related.  One says, I hate it when people call me brave! I am scared shitless and the other says The next time I get cancer I'm not going to fight it. 

Both of these made me cry.  I can understand both of them.  I wish I could hug both the people who wrote them....

    Cool site.  I bookmarked it.  What's "HBR"?  Also, the "next time... I'm not going to fight it" was sad.  I thought the postcard pic was interesting.  The tree reminds me of cancer.  Thanks, Deb!

    Hey Lini-  I didn't see anything that said "HBR"  Where did you see it?  I like the tree too.

    Alaska Deb...Never heard of that site but I can relate to what the person said when people call her brave. I HATED it when people said that to me. I wasn't brave, I was just doing what I had to do in order to survive.  I was so scared and afraid during that time, and even now, I still feel afraid, but not like before. It does get better with time. Smile

    Make that "HER".  Thought it was HBR

    "I wish I could carry her demons so she wouldn't have to". 

    Sometimes it takes a while for me to get it.

    Shorbr ~  Me too.  Hated the you're so brave, or I'm so sorry.  It is what it is and you do what you have to do, scared sh*&tless the whole time.

    The weekly collection isn't always so wrenching. But they're always interesting. Sometimes profound; sometimes hysterically funny.

    The guy who started PostSecret was interviewed. He said the most commonly revealed secret is "I pee in the shower."  I'm glad he picks a variety and, maybe, underrepresents the shower people.

    shorbr -  Don't even get me started on "brave"...I can not count how many rants you will find here from me and the labels people put on me while I was in treatment...and even now.  Yes, I can wear the "brave" hat, but it is uncomfortable and makes my head ache....I am with you on this one :)

    Blindedbyscience...LOLOL  Yep, got to watch out for those shower peeeeople!  TOO funny.

    Lini -Oh...now I see it. I hated "I'm Sorry" too....what do you say next? 

    I don't know why I have become so attached to postsecret.  I have even sent in cards.  It was cathartic and weird at the same time.....

    I also agree with the 'brave' comment. I did what I had to do to stay alive.  Sometimes I feel on the outside of the cancer thing because mine was caught so early (DCIS with no node involvement) that the surgery (bilat mast with recon) got all the cancer and I am not taking any additional treatments. But the thoughts of it returning is scary.

    Oh, btw, I'm pretty ambivalent on the brave thing and it often depends on who's saying it. If it's someone who hasn't a clue and is just trying to rack up Brownie points, it pisses me off. But if it's someone I care about, I'm cool with it. And sometimes I even want to be recognized for having endured the journey. Not that I had a choice....

    I hate the brave thing too because I felt like it wasn't a choice, it was what I needed to do to survive. That's not bravery in my opinion, it's darwinism.
