I have grown so weary of cashiers asking me if I'd like to donate to breast cancer. I've had to bite my tongue to keep from retorting, "Donate? Donate? I just gave both breasts. Is that enough??" It's not their fault they've punched my angry button, they're just doing their job.

I do believe in money going to research. I do believe in the good of the races and walks--for the support more than anything else. But until we find the cause, how can we find a cure?

As to the asking for donations in October - I just smile and say I've already donated.

Great article---I recently bought a kitchenaid mixer.  My sister was over the other day and said, "You know it comes in pink,"  I just looked at her.

I thought she knew better. 

thanks--thought the article was very well done--I'm hoping that the bc.org people who were quoted were asked beforehand if it was okay for the reporter to use their posts.......if not.......dang, I'd hate for some of the things I've posted on these boards to show up in a paper with my bc.org name identified!!!!

MOTC, I did say in my post that this bothers me but I do understand that anyone can see what is written and is one of the reasons to stay relatively anonymous.  I have shared information with friends by PM's and tend to be even a bit fearful of that.  I surely have a basic trust iissue that started with my discovery of breast cancer and hope everyone forgives me.

I'm going to miss all the pink ribbon things. Sometimes I feel a bit guilty that our cancer gets so much support and awareness when other cancers don't. I think we're very fortunate to have a whole month supported to raising awareness and funds and that any negativity around it is disrespectful to the companies and stores that raise moneys and awareness. JMHO.

I agree with Amy. Maybe because I am somewhat new to it, so to speak.  But I think it's great, all the support and money raised.

I do understand that it can be a bit overwhelming also.

I too wish that other cancer's got as much attention as BC.

Yes, it really does make me feel very uncomfortable reading that article and seeing all of the user names and direct quotes taken straight from this website. Makes me even more glad that I don't post here as often as I used to.

But, as far as the October bc awareness month goes and all the pink - Count me as one of those grateful for the "month of pink". I'm grateful for the awareness and attention all that pink brings to breast cancer - It's taken a long time and a lot of courageous women to publicly stand up and speak about breast cancer - a cancer that not too long ago a great many women were too embarrassed to talk about or go seek medical attention for because of the very nature of it involving a "private body part". I wish that we could keep the pink ribbons in everybody's face year round....because I don't want anybody to forget that we have women dying every day of every month of every year from breast cancer....yes, we need to find out what causes it and we need to find a cure - it takes money to fund research to do that. It takes money to pay for mammograms and treatments for women/men who can't afford them.....I thank God we have a month that brings so much attention to our cause when there are thousands of other type cancer patients who get no attention or support. Personally, I think we need to make a big "pink stink" year round until somebody does something to stop this disease.

And, I'm extremely grateful for all the thousands of people and companies who donated money on behalf of a disease that I personally and selfishly want to see wiped off the face of this Earth - no matter how small the donation....I'm grateful.

Boy do I have mixed feelings about this.  My initial response to the article was what others felt.  Many were being quoted?  From statements they made here.

I have learned a very hard lesson in the past week and that is everything we write is copied, pasted, sent to others, yada yada.  Its disheartening.

I know if I type my name in search, some of my posts will show up from bco.

Its disheartening.  For some reason, I didnt feel bombarded this past October in the Chicago area.  Was actually disappointed they didnt make a bigger deal about things.  I guess what upsets me most is that money should go to many places.  Early prevention is wonderful, but we need money for research.  We need a cure.  Too many sisters are out there suffering and fighting this disease.

Ah its sad.  I must be very careful with my choice of words.  Dont say anything on this site that you are not afraid to see printed, posted, pasted, somewhere else.
