I have to say I got your humor.  My husband and aunt have a sense of humor just like yours.  You made me laugh out loud and I really needed that this morning.

Surprise!  Here is the latest on overweight.

     http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/diet.fitness/11/06/weight.and.death.ap/index.html

So, now it's okay to pile on up to 25 pounds.

I could say something pretty vulgar here, but I won't. Innocent

Patrice...I just gotta say that I find you absolutely hilarious! And I guess you've had some material to work with....i.e., your mother! I can hear my own mother (and maybe anyone of that era?) saying the same thing....."cancer in the house" indeed!  Surprised Laughing Wink

I've always been slim the only one in my whole family and I'm also the only so far (I pray) that has breast cancer. When I called my sisters they were so stunned, I was just plain terrified for them and begged them to get a mammogram and ultra sound right away.

I too have gained weight since the chemo, actually the Docetaxel started it my doctor says it's fluid but I don't know, I'm not hungry at all anymore so we'll see when chemo is over and a couple months go by.

I too was thin, exercised regularly, and ate low fat, but still got bc.  I even dropped another 10lbs during chemo and rads and have  only gained 5lbs back so far.  It goes to show that these studies can't always apply to everyone.

    yep...me too...always ate healthy..well at least as an adult..haha.

exercised, I was a huge runner, in very good shape. Breast fed all 3 of my daughters for a year each.  Hardly drank, non smoker, started my period older and NO BC in my family.  I actually took the test and passed with flying colors!! haha..guess what...it got me!  Well...kind of..just for a short while...now I BEAT IT!!

    VICTORY!!

Lini and Patrice you're NOW both making me laugh.  At first I got a little ticked with you, Lini, but I read on.  And I know it's none of my business to GET ticked with you.  I just "know" gsg and she's funny.  I knew she was kidding.  I know about her "stupid sense of humor."  (It isn't stupid, Patrice).  And I just love her to death because she's one of the nicest people on this board.  Besides cancer (which is bad enough) she's had other things in her life to cause depression.

I like the "cancer" card. LOL

I can say that before my dx I was losing weight.  Eating differently.  After treatment and now on AIs I have put on at least 13 lbs.  It makes me sick.  No one needs to tell me what I should be doing.  I know!  Most of the time I just don't have the energy.  I know, I know, get on the treadmill and you will.  NADA, not for me.  I hate it.  But soon as my dh and I can get that stupid couch out of my living room and haul it off I'll be able to put my treadmill down and walk.  We got a new couch for the den that's why the old one's in there.  Plus dh had back surgery and we haven't been able to move it.

    Besides, I HAD CANCER TOO!

Luv ya, gsg!  You still make me laugh!

Hey, it is all a CRAP shoot. I have seen women here who did organic, were vegeterians, thin, had babies young, breast fed, yadda yadda yadda and still got cancer...

I know women who are overweight, eat red meat, french fries, soy, drink, etc... and have never had BC.

We have two breasts. Hence, BC.

    The end.

HEY GSG, I THINK YOUR VERY FUNNY. REALLY, UNDERSTAND YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR TOO. WE GET THROUGH EVERYDAY THE BEST WAY WE CAN, DARK HUMOR, LAUGHTER, A LITTLE CRYING IS A GOOD THING! IT'S THE NATURE OF MOOD SWINGS, AND OUR STATUS CHANGES DAILY. WE ALL NEED TO READ BETWEEN THE LINES OF THESE POSTS AND NOT BE QUICK TO ATTACK SOMETHING WE SEE AS ANOTHER WOMAN'S NEGATIVITY. WE ALL CHOOSE DIFFERENT WAYS TO SURVIVE AND GET THROUGH THE BAD DAYS, AND I THINK THAT'S OK. THE REASON FOR THIS BOARD, TO LET IT ALL HANG OUT, SHARE A VARIETY OF EMOTIONS, AND UPLIFT EACH OTHER'S SPIRIT'S.  HUGGS Smile

Gosh you lot crack me up.  You two are a double act - anyone tell you that?  I am ROFL with your repartee.

I am overweight, have been for ten years or more, and I work in an office, sitting down all day, walk a little for exercise and my hobbies are reading and writing.  I'd love to be up and doing exercises, but my joints are in Arimidex-mode (aged 58 but feel like 92!) so gentle walking is all I can manage.  Herceptin is also chipping away at my heart muscle until January, but I hear things bounce back okay after that, so I shall start swimming again.

But I am totally to blame for my breast cancerWink even though I did not drink, did not smoke, live on fish; but have women's hormones - that estrogen is a bad news!

Really though like everyone here I am not going through all of this **** , shocking dx, those dreadful chemo days, and the totally fatiguing rads, with loss of hair, body parts and the whole baggage to take on the guilt of cancer when the poisons that we live in get away scot-free.  Not to mention the mind-numbing fear of "Shall I die soon?"  No, they can all go to hell.  Go spend the money that was used on this research to get a ******ing cure!

Sorry to vent - just waiting for some wiseass in work to tell me it was my own fault and hoping I don't get fired for gross misconduct and arrested for murder.

Lini & GSG you had me ROFL .. and humor aside I especially appreciate how you resolved the sensitive parts.  I truly commend and thank you for setting this example.  Humor has gotten me through 18 years of BC packed into 11, thus my screen name - NED which is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the expiration date found on fresh food products.  And... I've been dancing with NED almost 7 years Laughing

Now, back to the original topic ... sort of.....  as many in this thread have said, regardless of previous healthy lifestyles we still got breast cancer.  All these studies and research articles could drive a person batty.  Can you imagine how much more confusing it is to 'normals' who haven't experienced the things we have?

Something I recently saw was particularly disturbing.  A group of anti-abortionists have a website and a public ad campaign.  The website  quotes numerous studies (some being very old) linking abortion to breast cancer.  I am absolutely not making a political statement for or against abortion.  I am questioning the studies and information they are quoting.  I'm not a medical professional, just a survivor.  From my perspective this link hasn't been proven and I think they are simply trying to further their own cause at our expense.

I'm bringing this topic up on this thread because the general message I'm getting here is "I did everything right and I still got it".

I shudder to think that some woman with BC will see the bus shelter billboard I did, especially if she had an abortion 10-15-20 years ago and will think to herself "it really is all my own fault".  I can only imagine how devistating that would be on more than one level.  It breaks my heart that someone already struggling with diagnosis and treatment could be slapped in the face with this kind of advertising, for a decision made earlier in life.

If indeed there is a proven link at least they could acknowledge it is relatively new information.  I think each and every one of us has already suffered enough regardless of personal pre-BC history.

I won't post a link as I don't want to break the rules.  However if you use a popular search engine and combine the two topics I'm sure the Ca nadian site will be in the results.

I'd also really appreciate feedback if I'm wrong about there not being a proven medical link.  But, I'll still think it is a cheap shot because of the way they're doing it, and it has nothing to do with being 'pro' or 'anti'.

If I've offended anyone in discussing this very sensitive topic, please accept my apologies, it is not my intent.

All the best to each of you,

    NED

I thought I read somewhere that there is no link between if one has an abortion or not.  I can't provide any medical info on it, but it should be ignored.

I sat down to watch the news and WHAT DID I SEE?  Can exercise help prevent bc?  I wanted to through a lamp through the tv.  It went on to say that fat feeds makes estrogen and estrogen feed cancer.  Of course we who have this already know.  Then it went on to say that postmeno women do not have to wait until they are meno to exercise.  DUH!!!!

My onc told me to walk 45 minutes each day ALL AT ONE TIME and I didn't even exercise.  No, I could not do it in 15 minute increments.

He told me he had a woman who ran five miles every day before bc and she continued it during chemo and did so much better.  Hmmm...the five mile run didn't prevent her bc.  I did those 45 minute walks for three weeks and pooped out.

What was the topic here...Oh, on "being slim."

I haven't read about the abortion issue on this site but I HAVE read on THIS site that CHOCOLATE DOES help your attitude. (it might have been ME that said it, but I did read it! Laughing) And I'm guessing that attitude has a lot to do with how one heals so I'm guessing that logically speaking, chocolate could actually be a cure for cancer....hmm..HEY! I think I got something here!!!!Wink

I had to edit this cuz I misspelled cancer!

Patrice - You had me literally laughing out loud!! I love what your mom said "we have cancer in the house"....That cracks me up!!  I think I'll use that line on telemarketers myself...only, guess I'll have to say, "Sorry, can't talk right now, I had cancer in the house".

Oh, but, back to the topic - I've been thin all my life and fairly active. Didn't help me from not getting bc.

    hugs,

Vicki:  Use away....it works like a charm.  no arguing about is there a better time to call you, etc.  they hang right up.

but the line does make cancer sound like a celebrity.  "cancer is IN the house.  cancer has LEFT the building."
