It seems like since I finished chemo I've had one cold after another. I started a great fitness routine that includes rock climbing, running and weights. But I can't work out when I'm sick and it seems like I've been sick a lot.

I have two little kids (first grade and day care) so I'm obviously exposed to lots of germs. I am obsessive about hand washing and the kids are really good about it.

I somehow managed to get all the way through 5 months of chemo with no colds - but now I can't catch a break! Any advice?

Jan...I assume that you're taking some sort of supplementation that includes basic antioxidants, getting enough sleep (with 2 little ones?!) and just doing the basic things besides handwashing. I think that many of us get through chemo fairly well because we're in warrior mode on every level and then, once it's over, we let down our defenses and sort of collapse. It reminds me a bit of college, when I'd cram and go at full speed at the end of the semester and through exam week and then fall apart and get really sick the following week. Anyway, the only thing that i can suggest besides the vitamins is that you take 'Airborne.' I know some people who swear by it as a preventive and/or a method of lessening the severity of colds. Also, as I'm sure you know, stress plays a huge role in breaking down one's immunity, so give yourself a break...get out for a massage or a girls' night out every once in awhile!
