I have a pain on my jaw hinge?!

Just seeking experienced thoughts because I am worried as usual...

What is up with this sudden pain?  I didn't even notice it until I brushed against it with my hand the other day.  It is right under my right temple, literally on the hinge of my jaw.  It only hurts if I press at it.

My hubby's response to that, of course, is, "Don't press it...."  Yell

It is tender to the touch, and very, VERY localized.  What the heck could this be, because I of course have self-diagnosed myself and googled it.

Any thoughts?  I love you ladies!

    Deb -

I have a rather severe case of TMJ, apparently as a result of an accident when I was a teen-ager.  I also grind my teeth when I am stressed.   Occasionally, I wake up with horrible jaw pain, and once actually my face was swollen so badly I had to have a CT scan!  When the CT scan came back clean, they advised me to see a dentist.   I've had tons of dental work over the years and wear a mouth guard when I am stressed to prevent grinding, because the only other alternative is surgery to fix the malocclusion of my jaw.

If I were you, I'd pay a visit to the dentist.

    I'm an OTC girl.

Have you tried some Sudafed? I have a tooth with a big filling. The tooth is OK, but it gets irritated when I do things like grind my teeth. Then it hurts. I mentioned it to the dentist who did an X-ray and said, it's your sinus. I go to my PCP who does a sinus work up and says, "nothing there."

So when it flares up I take Sudafed, the kind you have to sign for at the pharmacy. Clears it right up.

In my 3 years here I've never heard of anybody have bc mets to their jaw right off, so I think it's probably not cancer!

This sounds like TMJ... my sister had this. It is common in women.

HUGS to you.  Get it checked out at your family doc.

Rose, In my "logical" brain, I am pretty confident that it isnt' bc mets.  However, in my "illogical" brain, I am thinking a mile a minute, and saying to myself, "Is it really my jaw hinge?  Or is it really something that has to do with my brain?  Oh NO, I have BRAIN METS!"

Yes, I admit that is how I think.

I did happen to see my eye doctor today, and since I was trying to self-diagnose, I asked him about some other condition I read about (can't remember the name, but if left untreated it could forever damage your vision).  He assured me it isn't that issue, at least!

I'm due for a dentist appointment, looks like I'm going to have to schedule it ASAP!

Thanks Ladies!  Love and prayers, Deb
