Scared
About a month ago I found a small lump in my left breast. I just recently saw a Dr. who confirmed what I felt. She is sending me for a mammo and ultrasound. Why is it that they make you wait two weeks for an appointment? It is all I can think about. I am a wife and the mother of three girls. I don't want to leave them. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting me in sooner?

Twoweeks...do you know why you need to wait the 2 weeks? If it's that the center is booked, can you ask the doctor if she knows of somewhere that can get you in earlier. Or perhaps you have some community resources, such as a local chapter of the Susan G Komen Foundation or even ACS, that can make you aware of alternative diagnostic centers..? Other than that, it seems that you will have to wait the 2 weeks and I know how waiting even a few days is absolutely the worst. Try to hang in there and keep yourself as busy and distracted as possible. I know, easier said than done....

Hi honey, these call backs are very common. Especially if the facility has the new digital mammogram machines, they show up a lot more "thingys". Just remember that 80% of these "thingys" are nothing. Hug that number to your chest and think how big a number that is.
So try your best not to worry until you really know a lot more than you do now.
Waiting is the pits. My group fooled around with me for 3 months, then they thought I had lymphoma, had to send my slides to New York. And I finally got a diagnosis of a small sub-type of breast cancer. Meanwhile I went slowly nuts.
But, 9 years later, I am just fine, and you will be too. So hang on, honey, post often, and we will help you every inch of the way, and here's hoping it is a short, short stay.
Gentle hugs, Shirlann

Thank you for your comment. I have always heard that you should stay with the same radiology clinic. I have had all of my mammos there. I guess I will just have to wait.

Some women have called and asked to be notified of any cancellations. Some women who have been able to take 'cancellation' spots have gotten in sooner. Would this be an option for you?
Waiting is horrible, isn't it? -
Well Marin, that is true, but you can always get your mammo's (originals) and keep them with you at home. I have all of mine.
Don't tell them you are keeping them, just do it.
Now, maybe everyone will not think this is a good idea. But we have had more than one woman who had the facility lose her mammos. But still, this is just my thinking.
Gentle hugs, Shirlann
