Hi

I found out that I have a Vitamin D deficiency?  I take Calcium plus D twice a day.  Also now they are increasing my zocor from 20 to 40mg per day.  I am down to 218.  Not good enough so more meds.  I will be adding to my drugs the vit d and zocor 40.  I feel like i am so disgusted.  I just never pictured myself on all this crap at such a young age!!!  Sorry just bummed.  I didnt expect more crap (and I know it could be much much worse).  Its just a nuisance.

    Hi Barb,

I just started 1200 u of Vitamin D this week, plus increased my calcium citrate to 1500 mg in split dose. Hint: Watch for added soy when you are buying some. Does any one know if Vitamin D or Calcium can sometimes aggravate a mild heart arrhythmia? Anyways, I've been having those extra beats again since adding these two at higher dosages. Internist advised against 2000 u of Vit D until after a blood check four weeks or so from now.

I find with breast cancer some months I take more pills than others depending on whether, in my case, which I suspect is somewhat common my blood pressure elevates, neuropathy worsens, and of course cholesterol worsens or low thyroid evolves. It scares my daughter quite a bit, yet I reassure her that these drugs are to help, not hurt. We are a pharmacologic society!

I hear the baby boomer generation is in poorer general health going into older years (can't say retirement because who's going to retire anymore)? But I don't think you're a baby boomer Barb, based on what you said.

Yes, it's a nuisance, but anything for life. I now have graduated to one of those four times per day plastic pill boxes, as I can't remember if I took a pill two minutes after taking it and I have quite a lot to take.. That's not good for those of us on hormone therapy for ER+.

I feel for you...Sorry about your Zocor (sad face). But I still see intermittent articles of it's value in breast and prostate cancer, possibly in progression prevention.

    Hi Tender.

Watch it with the plastic daily pill box things.Laughing

We have had to take over my MIL's care, her memory is zilch ! Some weeks ago we gave her a daily pill box, and she couldn't remember what the day was!! so she just kept on taking her pills, 6 days' supply, all in24 hrs !! Neither DH nor I had visited for 48 hrs, and when we did it was all guns blazin' for ER.

She is diabetic, I panicked, she was admitted for 24 hours, but OK. Now its a 10 mile drive for one of us to feed her the dratted pills every 24hrs. She has 3 other children, 2 of whom are daughters, they all live closer to MIL than we do, but don't want to know, don't want the disruption of their lives, so it'll be 6 foot under for MIL if we don't do it.

With my Arimidex memory I sometimes forget that I have to go see her, and then its a scramble on an evening to reach her....so its the blind leading the blind now!! So don't think using one of these pill boxes is the answer!!!!

    Isabella.

Barb...How did you know to have your D level tested? Did you have any symptoms?

And since we have a lot of dog and cat lovers on this Board, here's a link to what to do if Fido or Furball gets into your Vitamin D and or Calcium supplements:

(I was goggling can too much calcium lead to hypercalcemia and up popped this site. Hey all the info probably applies to us too!)

Thank goodness Buttons was okay.  Some dogs will just about eat anything.  My friends Wimeys (don't know how to spell their real names..but they're BIG dogs) love to eat paper towels.  LOL

I have cats and they're too picky to eat such stuff.

    Hi,

No i didnt ask for the test she must have just ordered it.  I am now worried about heart arrythmia?? On vit D???  I go for more bloodwork in Dec. Nope no symptoms.  Felt the same.   As for baby boomers well I am one. I am the last year but I do qualify.  I'm 43 born in 1964.  The tail end.  Some days feels like 1864.  :)

Barb, I'm a baby boomer.  I graduated from high school in 1964 and got married in 1965! LOL  Oh, and I'm still married to the SAME man.

Don't feel bad about having vit d deficiency. I check it on everyone I see and far more are deficient than are replete. It's hard to get enough without supplementing considerably more than we tend to. Plus, the "normals" have been upped from about 10 to 32. It takes a lot to get there (2000 D3 daily or more to raise a level).

Take your D - it's easy and good for you and the studies show it prevents cancer (except in my case....Wink)
