Flu Shots?

Tina, you said it all.
Yep, I need to "clean" me up. How about the government cleaning up our foods, etc.
Valerie, you're so funny!
BTW, I'm perfect.

Do you all remember the study that came out that says red wine is good for your heart! And heart disease is supposed to be the big killer of women! I guess we are all at risk for what we eat, especially if it is not in moderation. If they say chocolate is bad for us then I am in big trouble, it is my weakness. I only have one tiny piece a day but watch them do a study on that!!
I have heard more and more about breast cancer cases. Do you think it is because of better detection or something in the environment? I was diagnosed at 51. Seems the average age is in the 60s. Think it is the food....how about artificial lighting in classrooms of the 60s and 70s? Maybe polyester? I don't think there are enough decades enough to study what could be causing this. And is Saudi Arabia having younger women get bc because of their industrialization or is it in their diet? It is hard to find out which is the culprit..genetics, environment or diet. Maybe all 3.
I got my flu shot yesterday..thanks to all of you for your opinions. I am feeling kinda out of it today but hopefully I won't be getting the flu this year.
Bless you all

Marcia -- my personal opinion is that it is something in the environment, food chain (like hormones the feed the animals, pesticides), or maybe even a virus like for cervical.
I got my flu shot yesterday too. It seems kind of late in the year for them. Last year I think I was able to get one sometime in October but yesterday was the first day they were available at my pcp's.

I'm not even going to give their "THEORIES" computer time.
Flu shots?I used to get the flu every year.First from my kids when they were in school, then from my 2 husband, a mailman.(They catch everything!)
My husband used to spend a day or 2 in bed, with VERY high fever. He would drink tons of water. Then he'd crawl out and be fine.
Ya.He is a very high-metabolism fever-maker.
Me, I'm a low thyroid type, and dont make fever under most occasions. And as I got older, I had wose and worse times with the flu.The last flu I had, I could feel it creeping through my body, making every muscle ache like pure hell.It took it over a month, and I was weak and sickly when it finally passed.
So the next year-I was only in my 40s-I got a flu shot. And have gotten one every year since. And have never gotten the flu again.
The SEs?Bah!Anyone who has had CHEMO isnt going to even turn a hair at flu-shot side effects!A little tiredness while the body fights off the vaccine, a sore arm, swollen lymph nodes in armpits for a few days, headache, feeling blah?To avoid this I'd risk flu? NEVER!!!
The only time flu shot ever made me sick was when we had that bird flu predicted pandemic.No.Swine virus?
So the government set up flu shot clinics all over?So I took my kids and we went and got shot.
But with flu shots, there are big signs to avoid it if you're allergic to eggs, OR if you have a cold.
I had a nasty cold but I lied.
And BOY did I get sick then!!
Wasnt the serum, because my kids were fine.(and we didnt get the flu that year!)
I HAAAATE the flu.I'm tired enough and have enough musculoskelital pain from Femara.Like-"I gave at the office"!

Shirley,
Thanks for the info about the flu shot. I guess if my pcm catches up with me, I'll get it, but for now, I think I will hide from her! lolFor now, I am worried about my insurance approving my surgery for NOV 7th!! I have NOW been told that the HOSPITAL is not in network, and I have had TWO surgeries there, my biopsy and my mast. surgery, with no problems! Why is it always a big ordeal any time I do anything? I am so tired of this! Maybe I will NOT get reconstruction after all, and I will have to go to your fitter, Shirley...
Have a good weekend.

Nope, no flu shot for me! And I don't ever plan on getting one. I think I've had the flu maybe twice in my life? (I'm 47)
-
Darn, Harley, I am so sorry to hear about this crap! You deserve to have your breast reconstruction. See if you can get your case worker to FIGHT for you! This is a darn shame. You dh was in the military for all those years and now the government has crappy insurance that NO ONE wants to take!? That makes me mad!!!!!! Can you go to Jacksonville, N. C.? That's a military town. I know you'd have to find another surgeon which would suck! This just isn't fair!
Harley, don't give up. It may take a little longer than you want, but in the end I'm hoping you will get your reconstruction.
Remember me telling you that our insurance is changing? Well, it's not as bad as what you are dealing with but IT IS BAD.
I'll talk to you later. We're going to have to put our heads together.

I was high risk before breast cancer, so I doubled check with my oncologist who told me to wait a month after my last chemo (which it has been) and get one. I was thrilled to hear that, because the last time I didn't get a flu shot I ended up in the hospital for two months with a collapsed lung and bacterial pnemouia. (sp?)
-
I got my flu shot yesterday. It is still red and itchy. I've been taking benadryl which helps with the itchy somewhat but not completely. I'll go see the nurse at school who gave it to me if it's still bothering me on Monday.
-
Shirley,
I will call my ps office and see if they can submit paperwork to get authorization for the hospital. Then I will go for my pre op on Monday, and I will tell them what my case manager told me -- that I do not need authorization for the hospital, if it is an outpatient surgery... I hope that she gets in trouble... But, the people at the hospital are so nice! I am praying that they will be able to get my case manager to authorize this hospital, so I can have my surgery on schedule.I'll let you know what happens. I am sending an email to you, too.
