I had a bilat mastectomy with immediate reconstruction.  I am 8 weeks out and only now feeling like I could possibly go back, I did have an infection.  I think at this point the tamoxifin is dragging me down.

This is so individual. Alot depends on the type of work you do, how far you have to drive, etc.

I hope to go back in a few weeks--that will be 4 weeks post-op (bilat with expanders)--but as of today, I won't make any promises. I have a long drive and have to be ultra-sharp, mentally. There's no time to rest except during lunch.

I know people who work all through chemo, who work right after surgery, or who stay home till the end of treatment. You will have to listen to your body and do what's right for you and your income.

As Anne said it is so individual. I had bilat mast with 3 lymph removed from each side June 1. I work in an office as receptionist/computer entry and I only live 1/2 mile from the office. I felt like I could go back after 2 weeks but surgeon would not let me go back for 4 weeks. My boss even offered to pick me up and bring me home if I had the ok to work but did not feel like driving. (They really missed me).

    Lourdes,

You will know when you can return to work.  I am 8 weeks out of bilat mastec with immed reconstruction and am going through Chemo and will return to work at 12 weeks when my short term disability ends.

I feel like I am ready to jump back on at an 'easy pace' after 8 weeks but I work from home.

Remember we are not going through easy times and our mental wellbeing is so important. If you need to take time to just care for yourself take it now set.

    Good luck !

    Aylin
