    Hi,

    My name is Marge and TODAY is my 8th year post dx for IDC. I survived all the tx. and no recurrence to date (for which I'm very thanful). My brca "fell from the sky". My 28 yo dd has a lump which will be excised next Friday. She is a medical assistant at an oncology clinic, so she knows all too well how this damn disease can affect women her age. My question is>>>where can I find info about the percentage of chances of ca in tumor at such a young age. I don't know how many young women find lumps and how many are cancerous.

    During tx, when I couldn't sleep,(sound familiar?) I found a message board on iVillage one night. I became a regular and we even met on an annual basis. What a privilege and awe-inspiring event that was! So I know how powerful these boards can be.

    DD is also in process of ending a bad marriage and has  2 small children.

    Any help or direction you can give will be muchly appreciated.

    I honor you young women and hope that you are each having the best day possible.

    Sorry for your worries and hoping for benign. I would skip the stats--she probably has a benign lump, but if it is a rare and unlikely cancer, she is doing what she needs to do in order to find out. She has it or she doesn't--she'll know soon. It's very unlikely in young women, but can happen.



    Ending a bad marriage is stressful, but a step toward a better future for those little ones.

    Sorry your DD is going through this. Are you BRCA positive? Has she been tested?

    Congrats on the 8th Cancerversary, BTW.

    I don't know exact stats for women under 30 being diagnosed, but I do know the percentage for women under 40 being diagnosed is something like 10% of all bc.

    Another site to check out for her in addition to this one is www.youngsurvival.org. Another good one is www.facingourrisk.org. And of course, both you and she will get tremendous support here.

    Her lump is what it is, and you will find out soon enough. I will pray for her that it is a fibroademona or lipoma, which are the most likely scenarios at her age. 

    I hope her biopsy goes smoothly next week, and please keep us posted on the outcome.
