Hi! I am not only just a 6 month newbie of BC, but a 3 week newbie of liver mets. What a whirlwind! So many questions!

    Here's the good news.....

I haven't heard anything good as far as results of initial use of AC and mets so I thought I would pass this along for anyone who like me is new to all of this and going thru with AC infusions.

Going through Adriamycin/Cytoxin was not in vain for me. I had a 25% decrease in my major 4 cm liver met in a 2 month period (have 3 other very small lesions)! While I was going thru my infusions, the news came out about it only helping a 7% group. I was scared that I was doing it for nothing. But, alas, it helped me!

My question now is will I have success with Taxotere/Herceptin? I want those mets gone and for good. I just hope my initial success wasn't just a stroke of luck. This is all so scarey!

    Take care everyone!

    Hi Barb,

I had success with Taxol, another taxane related to Taxotere, with shrinking my liver tumours and eliminating one completely.  Three years after initial dx I'm still working on getting rid of the last tumour using hormone treatments.

There are many treatment options and it seems that each person reacts differently to them.  You will need to work with your onc to see which does the trick for you.

    Best of luck,

    Bernice

Barb, glad you got good results with A/C.  I was stage IV with liver mets when initially diagnosed with BC.  I did neoadjuvant with A/C, and showed good results after just 2 treatments.  I've done a total of 6, with a 7 week break for surgery after 4 tx, and finished the final 2 after surgery.  The scans after the final 2 tx's showed some spots gone, and good reduction on the remaining lesions.  I've done one Taxol/Herceptin treatment, my next one is this Monday.  I was very lucky and had very little trouble with A/C.  Wasn't tired, just had some mild nausea after the 3-6 tx's.  My nails did start to get funky, though.

I've got numbness in my fingers and toes after the 1st Taxol, so I'll have to keep an eye on that.  I don't want my mobility affected, as I'm home alone during the week, and need to be able to get around.  My dog would tear the house apart if she couldn't be walked!  I think I'd go crazy, too, if I can't get out and walk.

Barb, Taxol and Herceptin combined showed a 50% response. My DH works with a lot of pharm. Co. This kind of response in any chemo regime is simply AMAZING! When the results of the clinicals and findings were revealed 2 years ago, it was met with a round of p at the Oncology convention.

Honey, Herceptin is the new miracle drug for HER2 + BC. Then if that fails we have Tykerb.

Since you have had such great response to on AC, I think T/Herceptin will be really successful!

    Best of luck.

    Hey Barb

Congrats on the great results!  I did A/C; couldn't do Taxol, was allergic to it. Went on Gemzar and Navelbine after they got my allergic reaction under control.  I was on Herceptin for 8 months after chemo; not sure what got rid of the 3 liver mets, but they're gone and have been since Sept 06.  I'm only on Tamoxifen now.  Had the double mast and hysterectomy.  Good luck with your meds; the Herception is good stuff!

Barb, Don't know the answer to any of your questions, but if it is working you must be part of the 7%!  Congratulations!  Jacque

Not too many side effects with Taxotere. Just the general yucky/sleepy feeling 3 days after...little bit of a bloody nose...eyes twitching..That's it! Just one more TX of Tax on 12/5...but Herceptin will go on for life! :)

PS And my hair is growing back...ever so slowly, but it's hair..I call it zebra hair because it goes light, dark, light , dark, etc and you can tell when I've had my treatments!Weird!
