2005 ROCK-TOBER CHEMO GIRLS
Comments

Hi girls -
Jan Clare called me this afternoon from the Avon 39 mile walk in NC! She DID IT! She said it was tough, but it was great! I was really worried about her because she was not feeling well last week when she had to jump on a plane and then begin her walk. So it was such a relief to hear from her! She said she's really tired, but they now have a few days to rest b/4 they head back to IL. She wrote on the shirt she was wearing during the walk that she was walking in honor of her Mom, her GrandMom and The ROCKTOBER CHEMO girls (and others).
THIS IS AWESOME...a girl named Tracy approached her and told her she knew of us at bc.org and she has posted a couple of times asking us questions about chemo etc! She said The Rocktober Girls were always so upbeat and helpful! Isn't that awesome!
TRACY...don't know your screen name - BUT CONGRATS ON THE WALK, and pop in sometime and introduce yourself!
The walk is an incredibely generous effort! Thank you to all the walkers...us survivors really appreciate your contribution!
CONGRATS JANCLARE AND ALL THE WALKERS!
-
I second what Laura said. Congratulations to All the Walker's, you are all amazing. Jan Claire you Rock...
-
Can you believe that I walked yesterday too?! It was a little over three miles around Prospect Park in Brooklyn and it took just over an hour. It was a spur of the moment decision and I managed to raise $100 in three days. I wore my Rock-tober t-shirt and hat for the first time as well.

Hi Ladies,
Just wanted to let you know about my husband's recently launched website (he's a web developer). He and my friend, Beth (BethNY on these boards) were asked by two surgeons in NY to help develop a website specifically focused on breast reconstruction. THey have chat rooms and a discussion board and everything....photos, insurance info, etc.
I'm so proud of my hubby for making this website and for Beth for now being the executive director of it.

Live from Jamaica....
Hi Ladies,
Miss you all, tried getting into google and cant remember what our group was called. So decided to post on here in hopes someone will see I stopped by...
Weather was hot today...showers in the afternoon but enjoying it to the max!! My dh and I had a photoshoot done tonight at sunset, now we have to decide from 28 pictures which ones to take.LOL. They have a package that includes a nice frame.
I also had a hard time getting in here on this computer....will try checking in before we leave.
We miss our pups and hoping that they are behaving for my sister.
Take care and hope everyone is well!
Love
Michele
P.S. Amy I am so proud of your hubby for helping launch that website. You definitely have a keeper in him. Nice to see you post if just to say hi...give Kelby a big hug.
-
Tracy -
I can't believe it! You finally did a walk! LOL That's awesome. Did you take any photos? Please share them if you did. I miss you! We have to talk soon.
MEESHELL -
OMG - I thought about you all weekend...I knew you had left for JA land, and I was hoping you were settling in and relaxing. There's nothing better than landing on an island in the caribbean! I'm so glad you were able to post. Have fun...I can't wait to see your photos!
Amy -
Congrats on the web-site!...just curious...is it a non-profit org.?

Hi All,
I might be the girl that met Jan in NC. I saw her shirt with your Roctober name and was thrilled. My name is Jacqui but there may be a Tracy too! How cool is that. What a walk, and walk, and walk..Yes you have all helped me so much with my friend with BC stage 4 Bone mets. She was unable to come along and cheer because of broken arm! So seeing jan's shirt with your group name made me feel "Watched over and cheered onward" in a grueling walk. 30 + years ago I did an add for a billboard for BC and it was censored because you could not show a breast. This walk proved to me we have come a long way. The word TATA, Hooters, BOOBs,... not a hidden subject anymore. Male survivors and supporters. Awarness full force, not hidden posters in the ladies room. A common united force, not a lone and abandoned sole. It is people like you who have shared your journey, your knowledge, and offered some broad shoulders...maybe that is why some call us Broads..if so I accept. Thanks for your help in supporting my friend, in helping me understand her journey, her moods. I am sure I will keep a watchful eye and pop a question as she heals. For now, if they have a thread on achilles tendons..I'm on board! OUCH...... -
Jacqui..I feel like we are famous! That is so cool that you met Jan! This is very exciting..we are all over the world and our name is too!
You are a wonderful support for us and for your friend. Hope her arm heals well.
Thanks for filling us in on the walk and all that you do!
-
Michele...so happy to hear from you! It sounds like a dream trip. Continue enjoying it all. With all the talk lately of vitamin D being good for you..you seem to be getting your doses in!
Have fun!
-
Yes, You are famous Rocktober Girls. Your commitment to each other is so apparent ad made me feel comfortable. I was in Canada for your big meeting in Chicago and thought of the overwhelming effort that venture was. What fun!Loved the pix and carried them with me on my walk. I hope others can form the friendship and bonds to see them through their searching times. Glad g-mail has been a new answer to this sites changes. As Rocktober Mom said, it is about life now (and always will be). If I ever find some leopard PJ's I will join you for the party.
Side Note: After the Avon walk, they awarded NIH with 500K to research environments role in BC..I suggest they check the porta-potties along the route! Hmmmmm..
Rockon...Jacqui -
To help all of you with the Constipation..nothing was working for me...until my Doctor told me to take Miralax twice a day ....works like a charm!!! NOTE: Works best in the morning/and before bed mixed with woarm tea. cocoa, coffee anything warm mixes faster and better.....in a hurry OJ does the trick pretty good too..Hope I could help....God Bless
-
(Speaking in a low whisper...) I had an ulterior motive for walking! I needed to mend some fences and knew that who I needed to see would be there. Shame on me, but I did raise $100 and accomplish my mission too! Bwaaahhh!!
Michelle out there in Jamaica, have one of those fruity drinks with the umbrella in it for me. I can't wait for my vacation. I am tired and need to chill with my people for a while. My best friend from London is meeting me there and my parents are celebrating 45 years of marriage and we are throwing them a surprise cocktail party.
I keep waking up at 5am still. I don't know what to do. I stay up late, take a pill to try to reset my internal clock but its not working so I just get up, get dressed and head to work. I'm at my desk by 7am most days. I dread to think what's going to happen next week when the clocks go back on Sunday!!
-
That's awesome about Jan-Clare! And I'm glad that our name has spurred you on Jacqui. Thank you for telling us that. I hate that we had to do the journey but glad I met friends along the way.
Tracy, you're so funny. Glad you walked!!
Michelle, we don't have a google group, it's your email you need to check! LOL
-
Jacqui -
OMG - I was so surprised you popped in! JanClare may not have said "Tracy"...I could be wrong. But she did say the "girl" she met there had a friend with bc... so it must be you. It's great that you were able to meet each other! Thanks for walking!...what a great accomplishment/sacrifice!
-
Wow, Jacqui, your words brought tears to my eyes. I don't think I've ever realized how much our thread has helped other people on this journey. It *did* take a lot of work for us all to meet in Chicago.
I literally got onto a plane to Chicago after finishing a three-hour chemo session (my next-to-last of 12 sessions for a second primary) just a few hours earlier. I knew I could count on the pre-chemo steroids to push me through for a day or so. I think I told Deb (who traveled from Israel!) that I would be there if my husband had to carry me there in a sack! LOL
It was an incredible experience. One that I'll never forget. Just thinking about our meeting fills me with strength. I can't wait for the next one! BTW, I'm recovering nicely from chemo and the peach fuzz on my head now has some very nice dark roots! I still get tired pretty easily, but I'm doing really, really well!

-
Cindy..you are so great! You always make me smile big time! :-)
-
You have a big smiley face for your avatar, I love seeing it!
Cindy, I am so glad that you were able to make it. There was just no way I could do it with my work schedule.
-
Cindy -
Your presence made our get-together THAT MUCH MORE INCREDIBLE! Rock on, sister! I'm so glad you're seeing "da fuzz"! I can't wait for you to see the updated dvd...you're the star!
-
Kelly, didn't mean to make you feel bad about not making it. You've got a lot more stuff to coordinate than I do.
And I live so close to Chicago. We could have easily driven it if I'd been feeling stronger.

Hi Ladies,
Today is my 2 year anniversary of being a survivor. We are going to celebrate by going out ATV'ing high up in the Jamaican mountains overlooking the coastline. Dh bought me a gorgeous Caribbean topaz ring, didnt even ask for it...he said I deserved it....what a sweetie! Our 8th year wedding anniversary is coming up on Nov 10, so it is an early annivesary present, although I thought our new house was.LOL.
Cindy - glad to hear that you finally have some fuzz growing. Do you look at it in the mirror everyday,OMG I drove my dh nuts doing that.
Laura - race chick...hee hee:) You are daring my dear, the speed of that car is just too much for me. I am sorry to hear about your neice but thankfully she is in good hands right now.
Deb - Yes we are having an amazing trip and way too much to drink, hey but life is to enjoy especially down here.....
TracyNY - when do you go to Barbados? Sounds like you are working way too hard getting into the office at 7:00 a.m. yikes. I am just leaving for work at that time most days. Congrats on the walk!
I have had way too many fruity drinks over the past few days...paradise passion, bahama mama, bbc (baileys, banana and cream), big bamboo (overproof rum, OMG just on sip and that was enough!)....
I dont have word here so that I can do a long post so just going by memory here.
Ladies, enjoy your day and will check back later!
Love
Michele

Those drinks sound good! Maybe we need to add one of those to our drink menu for our next get together. Lemon drop maritinis and....?
Congratulations for hitting the 2-year mark, Michele! Terrific! Who else in our group still needs to hit the 2-year mark. Of course, Cindy..we are counting your new course as well.... fuzzy hair...hope it continues to grow in..and dark. That was MY dream but alas... :-)
-
MMmmm...that BBB drink sounds GREAT! I've been putting a little Bailey's in my sugar/fat-free hot chocolate! YUM!!
-
Meeshell -
Congrats on the cancer-versary...Rock on, sister! You're probably swaying to Bob Marley right about now...sooooooooooooooooo envious!
Cindy -
Good idea!
-
Hey Michele, the two year mark is sweet. Enjoy your vacation.
Cindy, glad to hear your hair is rising from the ashes ,yet again. I hope you aren't wearing your gloves while riding your bike.LOL.
Fists up!

Hi Ladies,
Three more days until our time in the sun is over with for this year. Where has the time gone?
Thanks Maryanne, Laura and Deb -- two years and going on strong....
I have met a young women here at our resort who is 32 and is now stage 4. She is a 2 1/2 year survivor, I dont know what stage she was diagnosed at and didnt want to be noisy but I think she was always a stage 4 but it has recently spread to her ribs and liver. She is her+ and is now on Herceptin and Zometa for life. She had no surgery initially but ended up doing a right mascetomy to stop the primary tumour. Tracy is so full of life and a real sweetheart, it makes me want to scream and she also has two little ones that are 8 and 5. This disease makes me angry sometimes, sorry have to vent... She is going home tomorrow so I wished her all the best.
Laura - we have gotten up usually around 8:00 a.m. and when your outside in the sun all day it really wears you out, OMG what a problem to have....listen to me.LOL. Anyways...we have only made it past 10:00 pm. one night and that night we crashed at 11:30 p.m. They had a regagee (sp) band the other night that were fantastic. Your turn will come and I'll be freezing my butt off!
Cindy - I had to have another BBB drink today and am now working on a paradise passion...what a lush I have been....
I think I will have to walk home with all the food and drink I have had this week but it has been a blast and a much needed getaway.
Will check back later.
Enjoy your evening Ladies!
Love
Michele

Oh, Michele..I'm so sorry you "had" to have another BBB drink!
Sounds like so much fun! I love just having to have a drink. When I was in Barcelona a few years back with my girlfriend (what fun THAT was) we "had" to have Sangrias every night. It was a rule!
Enjoy the rest of your time there.
Sorry to hear about that young bc survivor. Seems we can't go anywhere without meeting another one. I think we are magnets for them, or something.
Have fun!
-
I REALLY MISS BEING HERE! It's almost as though I've lost a limb!
This is home for me...but anyway...just thought I'd check in and say that I'm doing well. I raced our car yesterday at the dragstrip...so much fun! I think I realized why I enjoy it so much...it's because when I'm in the driver's seat, I truly feel that I'm 100% IN CONTROL. But with my dx, I don't have 100% control! And...it's kind of fun to beat dudes in Ferrari's, Corvettes and Cobras OH MY! LOL (And what's really fun about that is their cars cost 3x as much as ours! LOL)
Meeshell - Are you going to keep in touch with her? I can't wait to see your photos! I lived vicariously through you - the past week!
---------------------------
Oh well...love ya all. Near and far! Hope you're all doing great! Be well! Be tough! Be Happy!
-
Deb - I had another drink today called a dirty banana, OMG I cant believe how much alcohol we have had this past 10 days, but it has been a blast. We are already thinking of our return trip for next year.LOL.
Laura - I am not going to keep in touch with her, I didnt talk to her too much she was with a bunch of friends and I felt like an intruder in some ways. I didnt want to ask her any more questions that what she offered except for how old she was when she was diagnosed, she offered the stage 4 information. I do now her name and that she lives in Nebraska, first name only.
She was telling me that her family did the relay for Life this year and their team raised $21,000!!! What a fighter and a pillar of strength she is, she had a tattoo across her back that said "strenght"....
Tropical Storm Noel missed Jamaica, was suppose to hit her yesterday and we were to have alot of rain, but it never transpired thankfully and is now treatening Bahamas.
Will talk to you ladies when I get home.
Love you All!
Michele

nosurrender 4 Oct 2005 07:34 AM
I was just crusing thru some of these postings when i came across this one from almost 2years ago. I recall these same feelings with my first diagnosis 8 years ago. Yep, like you NoSurrender, I made it thorough. Now, with my second primary I face chemo again. You made me smile with reassurances once again.
thanks
grandma Wolf

Hi Guys, just dropping by...Laura I miss it here too. There is something nice about the continuation of a conversation which I do not get with Gmail. I find it tedious to check ch message and annoying if I have unread mail. So...I will be both places, I guess.
A couple of my friends made me a special cake to celebrate my upcoming reconstruction. I loved it....
Fists up!
