Just so nice

I just had to share this.  We often look up to sports figures as heroes and too often lately, we are disappointed.  I live in Boston and some of you may know that the Red Sox are in a pennant battle.  When the Red Sox won Thursday night, a line for tickets for tonight's game began to form at Fenway Park.  Last night we had terrible rainstorms and those folks got pretty wet.  Late last evening, two of the Red Sox players (Mike Lowell and Dustin Pedroia) showed up with bags of food for the fans.  It wasn't announced, they just showed up.  Needless to say, the fans were thrilled.  I think it was so nice of them to do that.  I also want to mention that Mike Lowell is a cancer survivor.  Do you think the cancer experience just makes people think of others more?

Anyway, I thought it was so cool.Cool

    That is very cool!  No, I don't think that the cancer experience works that way for everyone.  Many get stuck just thinking about themselves and their own experiences, but thankfully there are the others that "step up to the plate" for others.  I'm still working on stepping up to the plate.  I've done so on some levels, but am missing the mark on others.

    Thanks for the nice post.

    The Bo sox are my 2nd favorite team, behind my beloved Phillies. I'm a HUGE  baseball fan and have been since I was a kid. I even used to collect baseball cards. I forgot that Mike Lowell was a cancer survivor, there are a few major league players who took time off for cancer tx and came back-- not sure if they're all still playing. Did you get tickets for the game? What kind of food did they bring?

    Hi Amy,

    No, I didn't even try to get tickets - I'll be watching on tv.  They brought Mexican food - thebostonchannel.com has a slide show of the photos taken by the fans.  There were no media types there, so the only reporting of it was the photos that I think they e-mailed to the station.

    GO SOX!!!!

    Hi Ann! Thanks for sharing this really nice story!It's quite wonderful, isnt it?And really kinda old-fashioned-as if back in the days when sports stars were truely idols, not overpaid jerks who kill dogs.(Sorry)!

    I lived in Boston in my young days.My elder daughter was born there.My husband, a townie, used to tell Ted Williams stories.H\Ted was another marvellous person.My husband, as a kid, used to deliver groceries where they shopped.Mrs Williams was real nice too (and tipped well!)

    Boston is a wonderful town, and I really love the Red Sox.Too bad I was perverse, (a NYC kid) and insisted on rooting for the Yankees.

    Thanks again for the, yes, really nice story!Go Sox!!

    hugs, joan

    Sorry, Newter.  I didn't mean to rub salt in any wounds.  I just thought what they did was a nice thing to do and I did post it before last night's game.  I am sure the best team will win tonight {a whispered "Go Sox" & sneaking awayWink}

    Anne, I forgive you, especially since you did post it before the game (I admit I did not look at the times of the post and assumed after).

    I agree, the best team shall win.  See you in Humor.

    Once more,
    Go Tribe !!!
