Hi & thanks to all for the enormous amount of info. I have already read by lurking on the site. My closest friend is in the middle of being diagnosed. She had biopsy and it is IDC triple negative. BUT, her breast is red, swollen, hot, and painful. Dr. did MRI and said skin was thickened and "involved" and breast was riddled with cancer "tentacles." To us, it sounds like IBC, but the biopsy said IDC. She just did a skin biopsy today, waiting for results. Can you help us figure out if there are two different types of cancer at work here, or one leading to the other? Thanks--Helen

I have 4 different kinds of cancer in my rather small breast.  The pathology came back neg. for the skin biopsy but the onc and radiologist believe I have IBC from clinical exam and how rapid the sudden onset and growth were.  Stay close to your friend.  She'll need you no matter what

I have IBC and the skin area is thick. I also had/have a lump you could feel for a long period of time. I would like to know if anyone has heard of IBC being a secondary cancer...like "regular" breast cancer that is undetected or not treated and then it progresses to IBC ?

Just want to update everyone. My friend's skin biopsy was negative, so her breast surgeon said it couldn't be IBC, but sent her to the oncologist right away. Oncologist took one look at her breast (by this time, twice the size of other breast, red, warm, and inverted nipple) and said it absolutely was IBC. He then explained that IBC has an underlying cancer of usually IDC or ILC. My friend is now about to go for her second dose of chemo, and her hair is coming out this weekend. Good news is, they found nothing in her PET scan or bone scan, so it looks like it stopped at the lymph nodes. Praying for all of you...Helen
