O/T - Furbaby GONE!!
Comments
-
I got home from church yesterday to find my son in a panic. He'd mistakenly let our cat, Vestley, out while raking leaves. We got Vestley during my bitter-a$$ divorce from idiot #1. She just jumped into my car one day when I was dropping my son off at school. He was in second grade.
Now, he's a fresman in high school and Vestley has never been outside for more than a few seconds at a time. She has no collar, no tags or anything, and she is so tiny she looks like she's only about two although she's a full-grown adult.
I feel terrible - especially since I was kind of short with her that morning while feeding her, trying to keep her from rubbing against my black pants. I'd give anything to have her rub my ankles today! I just hope she is warm and safe and not back because she doesn't want to come back (loving that freedom!) and not because she's hurt or something and can't.
This rots... -
Oh Felicia, I'm sorry that Vestley is missing. What a worry for you. I am praying that she is safe and that you find her asap. I have a friend whose "indoor" cat went missing for over a month and then casually wandered back into the house one day. Hoping she comes home real soon! Let us know.
Lots of hugs,
-
hunnie I'm so sorry.... I hope she finds her way home very soon.
Sending you big hugs.

I am so sorry, Felicia. I have three furbabies and if any of them got out, I would be heartbroken. I will say a prayer that she comes back soon.
-
Dear Felicia,
I am so terrible sorry about your furbaby. I too am praying that she is safe and that you get her back as soon as possible.
I had the same thing happened decades ago. It was my first cat. She had been a 100% "at home" cat and never gone outside. One day, she was playing near the window and got to open it by accident while I wasn't aware. She then went out and got lost. She couldn't be back home for a week and it certainly was the worst 7 days of my life. I tried to find her like crazy as we had just moved to a new place and there was no way that she could have known how to get back. But we did meet again. It appeared that she had spent the entire week in a small place beneath the floor. I just didn't know she was "under me".
Fingers and toes and everything crossed for you to be able to get her back.
Hugs,
Fumi

Felicia...I am so sorry and truly empathize, but I'm also here to encourage you to have hope! Cats have an incredible sense for their home environment and there are countless stories about cats who either 'took a vaction' from their families or were inadvertently left behind during a move or a trip. They always made it back home. My sister had an old, declawed Siamese cat who had been in the family since he was a kitten. He was a strictly indoors cat, but one day got out. They lived in a very wooded area and after a few weeks, they gave up looking for him and were just grief-stricken. But one day, as my sister was out cleaning the pool, the cat just sauntered out of the woods like he's only been gone for 10 minutes. He went on to live many more years....indoors!
Just put fliers around town and maybe an ad in the local paper. It will at least make you feel as though you're taking action. Also, check the SPCA and other shelters because you just never know with cats....they're tricky little devils!

Thanks for your well-wishes and prayers, everyone. I feel soo terrible and I can't stop thinking that she's somewhere hurt, cold and scared, which makes me sick to my stomach. I'll try the litterbox outside and see if that helps...
-
I'd start calling her around the house, especially in places like garages, checking under porches, etc. Stop and listen, just in case she got herself shut in somewhere. I know how upsetting this must be for you and for your son, but don't give up hope. I like the idea of putting the litter box out.
-
I'm soooo sorry, I hope you find her soon. I love my kitties so much I can only imagine how hard it is. I like mke's suggestion and also put out some food or even some tuna. Cats have good instincts and I bet she'll come home. Did you call the local shelters to be on the alert?
=^..^= Little One, Puppy, Birdy and Mousy are thinking about your kitty.

Felcia -
I know how worried you must be. I've always had totally indoor cats myself and I would be sick with worry.
I had to smile about your fur-baby rubbing your dark pants - that was my baby Sybil's signature move. I swear she could tell when the pants I was wearing would take on the maximum amount of hair!
Praying that your furbaby returns very soon, safe and sound.
hugs,
D

Felcia,
Sorry to hear your cat took a vacation. My dogs did that to me once. I ended up leaving my gate to the yard open and their water and food on the back deck. They did find their way home after making me sick with worry. I hope your baby finds its way home.
-
Oh Felicia..I'm so sorry - I feel your pain...I will pray that she finds her way home soon...try shaking treats outside every night while calling her name...you're in my thoughts.

oh felicia ............... please don't despair!
i babysit my parents cat "captain jack" for about 7 months out of every year (he might as well be mine) ............ anyhow, about 5 years ago, the first time he came to stay with me, he got out after 3 uneventful months inside my house and i was panicking because he had no clue where he was living and i was certain he was lost or hurt.
my dad called from cape coral to say hi about 3 nights after 'jack' disappeared and i was in tears because i'd lost the damn cat ............ my dad was pretty sad about this but understanding. 2 days later my parents came home and stiil no sign of jack .............. until about 3am when i heard the little bugger outside of my daughters window meowing!
he'd jumped off the hotub onto her window screen and was hanging off of it by all 4 paws ............ to this day he uses her window as his own personal kitty door!
keep the faith ........... i'm betting your kitty comes home!
-
Felicia, I know exactly what you are going through. I've had more than one cat to sneak out. My dd's cat had a vacation for about three or four days. Then one evening one of my other dd's opened the front door. She came in with the cat and said, look who I found. You woulda thought it was one of our children. My Mitzi got out and was gone for about three days. I was sick. That little bugger showed up FINALLY. She got out the other day also, but luckily she just sat on the garage step with the garage door open. Then Cleo, an outdoor adopted kitty, got out. My dh told me and he said she just sat by the car outside of the garage. He called her and she came. I would have thought she would run as fast as she could. When we brought her indoors (after visiting the vet) and was driving us nuts. I mean she wanted out badly. Poor baby. However, she very scared of the rain and thunder. Our Gizmo got out but we ran him down and caught his little butt.
Felicia, keep the faith. You've heard about all these kitties coming back. I KNOW how scared you are. I'm having a deja vu "moment" and I don't like it one bit!

Oh, Felicia, I, too, know how you feel. One of ours was AWOL for 3 days and calmly came home and jumped in bed with me at night. Have no idea where he'd been, likely locked up in someone's garage or something.
Keep up hope. Know that they are good at protecting themselves against other animals, but they do like to roam. we'll all be hoping and saying good things for a safe return.
-
Dear Felicia,
I'm SO sorry for what you're going through.I'm allergic to cats, but know how much we love our furbabies, and how upset any of us would get if this happened. It's very, very scarey.
I'm hoping and praying that something has fascinated Vestley.Maybe she went home with some fascinating foxy cat-guy.Maybe she's feasting on high-end California Naturals food.Frolicking with some other cat, enjoying the clear nights and the bright moon.
And hopefully she will start to miss Mom and Home REAL soon, and be there one night/day.
I dont like to be un-agreeing, but personally I wouldnt put her sandbox outside.Arent there always feral cats around?I've never had a house anywhere w/out them.(And some jerk of a neighbor FEEDING them) Sandbox too much fun for them.Racoons too.
She knows exactly where her home is, she can smell it if she gets that close!IMHO.
Sending Vestley-come-home vibes,
j

I have to leave for class in a few and now my mascara is running all over my face! But thanks for all the encouraging stories...
I looked around the neighborhood yesterday to no avail. H2B thinks she high-tailed it for the woods behind the development. I put some food out this morning for her. Maybe when I come home from class, she'll be sitting on the doorstep. But if not, I trust she's safe and eating on a regular. Or maybe, Joan, she IS too facinated by some hansome guy cat to remember the comfy chair we snuggle in after dinner.
I'm heading to the local animal shelter a little later, too, to look and spread the word.... -
Keep us posted. I really hoped to open this thread to hear you'd found her.
-
Soooo Sorry
Holding very strong and positive
thoughts for you
May she be found
soon, and in the meantime
be safe, and with food
Hugs -
Me too, Pink. I hope she's home when you get home. Just remember all the stories of kitties running away and coming back home.

No luck. I also went by the local shelter. There were soooo many sweet cats and kittens there! Broke my heart...
The local shelter suggested I call the shelter in the next town over. I've also posted a few flyers and let my neighbors know about her escape. It's getting colder around these parts so I just hope she'll be warm enough out there... -
Aw, Felicia. I'm still saying prayers. Maybe she adopted a neighbor? We got one of our cats because he wandered into our building just before a snowstorm. We kept him in for the storm and let him go after the storm. Wouldn't you know it, he came back to us. We put up posters all over town saying we had found him. No one claimed him. We ended up keeping him until he passed away 13 years later. I often wondered if his people were worried about him and wished I could have reassured them that he was safe. My hope is that your furbaby has found a safe spot, too. Preferably one she can return to you from.
-
Beautiful!
-
I love her markings. She's so pretty. I really hope she finds her way home to you.
-
Felicia....she's beautiful and looks to be quite smart! Try to stay hopeful...she hasn't been gone that long and maybe she just needed to 'get away'....you know how that is, right?
Seriously, I'm saying a prayer that she returns home safely.

Felicia,
I am a huge cat lover. I have 2 and keep them in the house too but every once in a while they get out. They like to hide in the bushes by the house until I find them. My neighbor had the same thing happen. Her kitty got out and was out all night and just stayed in the bushes, too scared to venture very far. Hopefully your sweet little kitty is close by and you will see her soon.
Something that might work and you may have tried already, is put her food in something and rattle it around. That sound always brings my cats running. Good luck and I hope to read good news next time I visit the boards.

Felicia, what a gorgeous cat!
I am so sorry this has happened to you!
The Fluffman once did a disappearing act on me and I could not find him, nor could the neighbors. What he had done was wander into the garage of a neighbor and take a nap on the hood of the warm car. When the neighbor came out to the garage he got spooked, the cat not the neighbor, and jumped on the roof of the car and then up to the little loft space that was above the garage.
The neighbor left and closed the garage door locking him in there.
Check unusual places like that in your neighborhood. Nine times out of ten they are "hidden" someplace.
I hope you find your baby!!
Love,
g
