I am once again using fitday.com to get me back on track and wanted to share it as a great resource. I may have learned about it here.

I got really out of control with my eating and it was really bumming me out. I had the misfortune of having lost a lot of weight during chemo getting me down to a BMI of 20 and about 8-10 pounds below what my body wants to carry. That was way too low and I hated how I looked but did like it at about the 5 pound below mark. Still, it was below. And now that I'm pretty much back to my normal weight I find that it tricked off lots of old bad body image and obsessive stuff back from when I was 40 above about 18 years ago. So now, when I start eating the triggery (read sweets) foods I get way out of control.

I work in endocrinology and know that one of the things that helps people with diabetes to keep under control is to keep track - log and observe blood sugars. I've also read that that is the one thing that's been shown over and over to help people lose weight (I think that's why Weight Watchers works - it keeps people paying attention to what they're eating in a neutral form - "points" instead of calories or grams). So, I started writing down what I ate. But the fitday thing also helps by giving the breakdown of calories and fats and carbs and proteins and fibers, etc and proportion them on a pie chart. Plus you can log your exercise too (although I don't find that feature flexible enough for me).

Anyway, I got long winded (as usual) but it's something that helps me a lot - as long as I have the guts to keep doing it honestly as possible when I go out or give in....

    Jorf,

I thank you so much for posting this. What a helpful reminder that sugars aren't great on the weight scale. I am very much like you and lost lots of weight on chemo and for the year following. When I was overweight, I had eaten lots of sugars, and used Sugar -Busters which really helped me shed the pounds.

But, I've been carb craving again: always get this with shorter days, and colder days. No different this year. So, on to sugar watching again and more exercise at my gym. Went there today in fact...

Writing down what I eat and checking with The Calorie Book is very helpful: it's amazing what I can put in my mouth.

    Oops, time to stop,

    Tender

I just recently found fitday and really like using it.  I am an old time weight watcher life time member and have been struggling a lot lately.  I lost 30 lbs. 3 years ago and have since put back on 13 despite ww and exercise.  I think my struggles are partially due to tamoxifen since I'm still keeping to my ww program and work out 5 days a week.  Fitday is just another way to keep me on track and I enjoy seeing how many calories I'm burning vs. what I'm eating.  I weigh in today, I'm hoping for a decent loss.

Good luck on your weigh-in Janet!

I've used Fitday off and on for years. I think it is an excellent, free resource. Unlike others above, I gained weight during chemo (like 20 pounds!) but lost it before my surgery last month. Now I'm healing from bilat. mastectomies and immediate free flap reconstruction that will have me way below my normal activity level for quite some time to come. I refuse to let the pudge pack on, so fitday is helping me track my intake, nutrients and fiber. Being conscious of what I put in my mouth by tracking it through that site is a big help to me, too.

    Lisa
