YAY! I did it!!!

I had gained more than 26 lb's since dx. Decadron was the first thing that made me fat. I did 2 sets of 12 weekly Taxol (before and after surgery) and had to take Decadron every time I went in. When I finally "graduated" from chemo, I had to start Tamoxifen and Lupron shot. Both of them only helped me gain more weight. I couldn't even look at myself in a mirror without having tears in my eyes. I bet anyone who saw me thought I was pregnant. In fact, I had a few people ask me if I was. I had never been a "hot gal" in my entire life but never been as ugly as I was at that time. I stopped buying clothes as I didn't think I would look any better no matter what I wore.

I did try to lose weight. I started watching what I was eating. I made every effort to eat healthy good food with less fat but I still continued to gain weight. I completely lost hope and was almost feeling abandond. That was about 4 months ago, just before summer.

This past summer was unusually hot in my part of the world. The heat drove everyone nuts. But one day in the mid July, we had a very cool evening. I felt so refreshing and thought I should walk to home from work instead of driving. That was the start. My work is about 2 miles away from where I live and I have been walking each way since then. Before I changed the way how I commuted to work, I drove all the time except when I got out of my apartment to get to my car, which only took a couple of seconds. Everyone called me crazy for starting to commute by walk in the mid summer and told me that it was the worst time to do so. I knew that but didn't quit. I don't really know why but guess I just didn't want them to think I was a wuss. It wasn't an easy job at all as I had to work overtime at least till past ten at night almost everyday. But I did it and am still doing. Now it's much cooler so I have also started doing a bit of exercise since a couple of weeks ago. That's a 20 minutes abdominal workout created by Charlene Johnson, which I got a dvd from a friend. I do this twice a day, before lunch and dinner. Believe it or not, I hadn't done any exercise since I finished school so if I can do this, I bet everybody can. Actually it's not as hard as I thought it would be.

Today, finally I checked my weight. Yes I DID it! I have lost 13 lbs so far since this past July!!! You'll never know how good I feel. I am so glad I lost those extra pounds and am very proud myself for that.

So don't you ladies ever give up. There indeed is hope!

Hugs,

Fumi

    Fumi,

You rock!! You knew what you had to do and you did it. And you are changing your life with each step that you take. The pounds will continue to melt. You are doing it the right way. I hope you have a big reward system for each milestone you pass!!

Who would dare think that a mini-Zilla whose been through everything you have would be beaten by some summer heat?

Way to go, Z!  I know how much of a boost it is to lose weight (something I need to do!)

    hugs,

    D

P.S.  Only 7 days to go!

Good for you Fumi!    I have been walking too but it was not enough for me so I started Weight Watchers a couple of weeks ago.  I am counting points and being really careful.  I did not realize just how much I was eating before and now I am so much more aware of what I am putting into my mouth.

Fumi, you ROCK!!You're completely AWESOME!!Watta babe! You have made an impression on this weight, which is, truely, practically immoveable! YAY!!YAY!! <APPLAUSE>!!!!!!

I have had all the same things happen to me, from putting on the lbs from decadron,to gaining a fatbelly from femara, to being unable to budge the lbs.

I DO have bigtime joint problems from femara, which make walking really nasty.Every joint in my FEET hurt by now, when I walk.

But I have less that 2 years to go, and then I will try to emulate your fantastic work.

Meanwhile I'm holding, which is hard the way we tend to gain on the hormonals.

And I'm applauding you really LOUD!!

    big hugs, j

    That is awesome.

You didn't starve yourself, and you lost weight by working exercise into your daily routine.

I'm surprised, I thought everybody in Japan rode the train to work.

    Keep up the good work!

Thank you! And yes, if I can do it, you can do it too.

Here are some tips I have learned from my experience.

Don't push yourself too hard to keep working on your weight. If that became a burden to you, you wouldn't be able to keep it up. I forgot to mention though, I had to stop walking for two weeks due to the extreme heat. I got heat rash all over my abdominal area like a 2 months old baby and it was itchy like crazy. I didn't start walking until the rash was gone. Also, sometimes I gave myself a break from exercising like when I was just too tired or didn't feel like it. You should remember that you can take a break anytime you want or else you will soon feel it a burden. This is the exercise I have been doing. http://www.exercisetv.tv/whatsondemand/categories/abs/player.php

Looks a little too hard but it isn't. The best part of it is that it's only a 20 minutes workout. You will be done before you realize. And even when you think "oh I can't do anymore", you can see it say "only xx minutes left" so that you can hang on. I will certainly keep working, I need to lose another 13 lbs to say the least to get back my old self before this disease.

Oh by the way I still eat chocolate. It's way too yummy to quit! Tongue out

Now gotta go for shopping for some Autumn outfits! Yay for me!

    Hugs,

    Fumi
