Unexpected good news
I went in for my stereotactic biopsy today. They spent an hour trying to get a fix on the area of concern but because of the location and scar tissue the computer couldn't do it. They were about to refer me for a surgical biopsy when as a last ditch effort they hooked me up to the digital mammogram. With that view the radiologist saw more calcifications and a new pattern emerged that is benign. So they called off the biopsy, lowered me to birads 3 and i return in 6 months. I did have a biopsy in my other breast, an area I was concerned about, but neither my surgeon nor the radiologist is concerned so that is likely nothing.
From now on I will be getting digital mammograms. When i see my surgeon on friday for a follow-up I will ask why I haven't been getting them all along. The radiologist said they use it for dense breast, more complicated situations. Hm . . .

Congrats, MOTC! I know you are relieved.
Digital mammos and MRIs are still controversial. That's WHY we don't get them. I want to tell the darned docs, if you were dxd with bc and go through what we go through not ONLY during treatment, but before and after I bet YOU would order every test every time you had your boob/boobs looked at!!!!!
I said "boob" cuz I only have one left.

I've been waiting to hear how it went for you. Sorry about the difficulty with the biopsy (I've been there on that one!), but great news in the end!! Congratulations!

YAY, MOTC!!! We should all be getting the digital mammos if we have even mildly dense breasts! I wasn't getting them initially and simply asked my onc to specify them on her orders. Been getting them ever since.

Whoo-Hoo, MOTC!! Glad to hear everything is everything!
I was a digital girl, too. Breasts were very dense and once the imaging center I went to went digital, I saw the digital mammo compared to the standard mammo films and was absolutely amazed. The films looked like two clouds but the digital looked like a road map! I'm sure my DCIS would not have been found via standard mammo. Now I tell my family and friends to request them as well...

The place I go to now has digital, but the nurse said they are getting a whole lot of false/positives. I imagine there will be a learning curve, or maybe, just more biopsies. Whatever it takes to get this disease under control.

that is great. i turn 31 in feb. they wanted me to get a mammo when i turned 30 but my panic is horrible cause i was with mom through her bc. i talk to the doc about my first mammo soon. i wish mine could be digital.

My community has been using digital mammos for about a year.Super-diligent, they also have radiologist read them.They have had very good results.

WooHoo!! Great news so far!
I was in a study for digital technology back in 1997-2000. But it still didn't pick up any changes that later became my cancer in 2002. My local hospital uses digital now, but it didn't see anything too suspicious with my new cancer, either.
MRI is a great tool, but it is just that--a tool--to combine with other technology. I think there is no one right answer. But we certainly need excellent radiologists to put it all together!

I just got teh results on the biopsy no one was terribly worried about, also b9! All done and all clear. Big glass of wine tonight.

The center I go to started using digital last year on everyone and they are sooo much nicer than the old ones.
