Uplifting Story

Being newly diagnosed to triple negative I have already discovered how discouraging being triple negative can be. However, I have been meaning to share this great story, I am not a very religious person, but I truly believe it was a blessing from God that I had this wonderful experience.

A couple weeks ago I was feeling particularly down and alone. Although I love my triple negative sisters here, I had yet to "find" a breast cancer survivor out and about on the street that is triple negative. It all seemed so doom and gloom. To top it off I had accompanied a friend to chemo (who is not triple negative) and met her oncologist. My friend introduced us and when the onc found out I am triple negative his whole face changed and he said "ohhhh." Insult to injury.

So, there I was later that evening at home. My husband was trying to get me to snap out of my mood and I seemed set on being down. He convinced me to go outside to help him with some unimportant project on the front porch. As I looked across the street I noticed our neighbor across the way dog was locked outside the house. While I never more than waved and said causal hellos to this neighbor, my neighbor next door had mentioned that the woman who lived there had breast cancer several years ago.

Well in the name of being a good neighbor I walked across the street and knocked on their door to let them know their dog was out. They gratefully thanked me and invited me in. Now being of great social gracious at this time I took this opportunity to dive right in to "So I heard you had breast cancer?" Without missing a beat she replied that she had and was now seven years out with no evidence of disease. She was diagnosed relatively young (hey, I am only 27 so it takes a lot to make me think diagnosed young) at age 47. So, I am sure you all know where this is going......come to find out she is triple negative! Here all this time I had a triple negative survivor who was doing amazing right across the street from me!

Sorry for the long story. It just seemed liked a good reminder to keep our chins up. We never know what afflicts our neighbors or strangers, or even how much we may have in common. So, thank you to all my triple negative sisters who help me keep going!
