I am wondering how many women out there with low stage BC that tested positive for BRCA chose a mastectomy over lumpectomy. I had stage 1, triple-, lump w/chemo & rads but now it's 8 mos later and I am wondering if I should have a bilat mast.

Feedback would be great!

    Hey Tampachick,

I live like 2 minutes from Oldsmar!

I wasn't low stage but, due to family history, brca +, trip negative, I had a bi-mast (3/21/07) even though my cancer was only in one breast.

If you need a local fellow bc friend, my regular email is traci@oceanliferealty.com

    Good luck girl.

    Hi fellow Florida girls-

I didn't  have a cancer diagnosis but since I am BRCA 2+ opted for a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy. I had the Alloderm One Step.....3 hour surgery, back to work (as a dance teacher) 2 weeks later. I am SO HAPPY with my results too.....I feel I look BETTER than before! I can e mail you photos if you'd like.....the surgeon also has some on his website:

www.mybreastreconstruction.com . I did go to him in NY for the surgery but there are more and more surgeons doing it....I would imagine by now Moffitt has surgeons doing this procedure. It does involve getting implants though, so if you are opposed to that it wouldn't bee the right choice for you. My  e mail is bisous3@aol.com.

By the way, you girls should consider coming to the F.O.R.C.E. conference May 16 & 17. Its in Tampa , downtown at the Hyatt. I went last year and it was fantastic. It is, in my opinion, the most informative event any BRCA + woman can attend. The president of the organization, Sue Friedman, manages to bring in the top BRCA specialists in the country, including Dr. Steven Narod. (google him)

Check out www.facingourrisk.org. You can view the 2006 conference on line, but the 2008 one is going to be even better!
