MRI tomorrow

Okay, I said I'm not really concerned.

Let me start from the beginning.  A little over three months ago I had some weird floaters.  It happened on a Saturday afternoon.  That evening I called my doctor.  The doctor on call had me meet him at his office.  He gave me a GOOD eye exam...no retina problem.  Well, it seems I have vetrious detachment.  However, in the back of my head I wondered although he said that it wasn't mets.

I saw my onc's PA last Friday.  I mentioned to her about the floaters.  They're better, but not gone and maybe never will leave.  She thought I should have a brain MRI...just to be on the safe side.

All that I have read about vetreous detachment sounds just like what I've got.

I just read Boop's post on the mets board about mets to her eye.  Her symptoms are different than mine.  However, I also read that a tumor or cancer cells can cause these floaters or the detachment (something like that).  However, I thought that with a good eye exam the doctor could tell.  Now I'm not so sure.

So, please keep me in your prayers.  I've not had any tests done since surgery so I'm a bit scared.  Thought I was brave.  HAHAHA

I'm having the MRI tomorrow afternoon.

OK, I can't tell you not to worry because we all would, but I do think you are focusing on the most unlikely possibility. I had a detached retina and for years before it became detached I had floaters. It has now been 15 years since the detachment and I still have a ton of floaters.

I have never heard of mets causing floaters. I'm not saying this isn't possible, but there are so many more likely scenarios having to do with the aging eye. Some people -- many people -- just get floaters.

Thank you, Felicia.  That's really all I want right now...not to be a nervous wreck!

MOTC, I agree with you.  Like I said, everything I've read about vetreous detachment is ME.  It came on suddenly..no retina problem.  I too have had floaters.  I'm very myopic.  With that and my age it is most probably ONLY vetreous detachment.

I'll hang on to your words.  I just hate any kind of tests.  LOL

Hugs to you and prayers for a calm day.  You KNOW it's most likely not mets...but it sure will be nice when they TELL you it's not and you can go back to just having aging eyes Wink

    Keep us posted,

    Hi, Shirley,

It will be a relief to just KNOW what's going on. But I'll be sending out positive thoughts for you. And I'm betting on detached retinas!

Shirley, can it be a cataract?

Good luck to you and the best wishes.

    {{{Shirley}}}

Please remember that I have the exact floaters you do!Mine came on during Taxotere, and were just one more lovely gift from the taxotere, along with IBS.

So I want you NOT to be nervous, because it IS vitrious detatchment!Since my floaters came during TX, and since I had myriad scans after tx before my onc allowed me to meet NED...well-ya dont get mets during chemo.

My floaters havent gotten bettter, but nor worse.Part of my life now.

DO NOT BE SCARED!I'm right here with you!!

    love, Joan

PS-I have read that floaters are a product of dry eye.The Tax gave me dry eye and edema, and the Femara has been giving me edema and dry eye(and mouth) for 3 and 1/2 years. How could the floatees go away?

When we get off these AIs, we'll get better!

Till then Non illigitum carborundum--dont let the bastards get you down!

Shirley, thinking of you, and wishing good wishes for you.

This bl**dy disease, it has us in a permanent state of unease. Hoping you'll have had your MRI by now, and that you get quick results.

    Isabella.

Thank you all, ladies.  I got through the MRI.  They had a very hard time finding my brain. Laughing

Anne, it's not a detached retina.  The ophthalmologist would have found that.

Fire, I do have the beginnings of cataracts, but not bad enough to do anything about yet.

Isabella, thank you.  I amazed myself while doing the test.  However, I took a "pill" and prayed the whole time I was in that contraption.

Thank all of you.  I'll let you know what they tell me when I hear.  They'll have to send the report to my onc.  I think I'll call them tomorrow and tell them (the radiology place) to send them to my pcp here.

    Shirley

Survivor, yep, any tests are nerve wrecking.  Have you had your's yet?  I can't remember when you said you had to have some.

Marin, I didn't go to Duke for the MRI.  Dr. Kimmick ordered it here in Wilmington.  I didn't want to make that trip.  If Dr. Chui was still there I betcha he would have MADE me do it at Duke. LOL

Joan, hopefully they won't find anything other than a fried brain.  LOL  They'll probably tell me I have dementia.  Surprised  The way my brain DOESN'T think, it wouldn't surprise me.  Cry

Well, Shirley, so much for my betting on detached retinas. I bet so much more readily on other people's issues than my own!

A fried brain could be the ticket, but google that and I bet you don't find floaters as a symptom!

I'll be really curious to know what's going on, from a medical standpoint as well as a personal one.

Shirley, I am praying that your report comes back with words like...

    "unremarkable"

    "insignificant"

    " no evidence of anything"

    "The girl is FINE!"

    ((HUGS))

    Thanks all.

Shoot, I thought I was remarkable, significant AND fine!  Laughing  I hope there was evidence that I had a brain. LOL

Anne, it's probably the vetreous detachment causing my little eye problem.  I don't really know why the PA wanted my brain looked at.  I have brain problems like most gals here...forgetfulness, multi-tasking gone out the door, fog brain..etc.  Therefore, I'm trying to stay positive. Tongue out

Haha ShirleyLaughing!! I KNEW you were fine!!

I'm pretty mad that the PA upset you (of COURSE she did!) by asking for a brain scan.Shoot, anyone would have been terrified.

And the MRI must have been a very scarey experience, because of findings fear. All unnecessary!

Rest now.You must have had a bad night.

A nice dark chocolate truffle bar?A glass of wine? Both?

    Hugs, J

PS--with my continuous floaters, I have added leutine and lycopene to my suppliments.Dont help, but maybe soon.....

HAHA, Joan.  I hope to get a "report" by Monday.  If not, I'll make a call on Tuesday.  I have learned through this mess a little more patience (I think).

I doubt supplements will get rid of our floaters.  I've heard that lutein and especially Zeaxanthine was good for the ole eye.  I think it's supposed to protect the macula.

When I first got my floaters, they drove me NUTS.I kept trying to brush the "hair" away from in front of my eye.

Now--hey if they werent there I'd get scared!

    Zeaxanthine, huh?Thanks.

    Party on, Dude!Cool
