Just checking...anybody else out there participating in the Avon Walk in NYC? I'm looking forward to walking for the 2nd time on October 6th and 7th.



I'd like to hear about your experiences if you've done the walk in other cities.

    Hi Peggy,

    I will not be walking but I will be volunteering in another area. I will be registering the walkers. Would love to meet you. Look for me where you register. Good luck with the walk!!

    I'll look for you.

    I'll be wearing the scarf that I'm wearing in my avatar (If it's too warm I'll just hook it into my back pack)

    I've attached colored ribbons, blue, lavender and green from my supporters, yellow for survivors (many of my friends from bc.org) and white for those who have lost the battle.

    Are you working Friday night at the Sheraton? Will you be working anywhere else during the weekend?

    I spent a good portion of my day fundraising for a dear Mother-Daughter team from NJ. Mom has made her $1800.00 entry fee, and I'm trying to help her teenager who so desperately wants to walk with her Mom. I was pretty successful, and hope more will develop tomorrow. Cut off is noon Friday.







    Such a wonderful event! Here's hoping you have a great time Peggy and Candie. Thanks for your effort.

    Peggy,

    I will be working Friday from 11am - 8:30pm at the Sheraton registering walkers. I will look for you also. Lots of luck in the walk....I hope to walk in the future...for now I am doing what I can to help. I will be wearing the Avon t-shirt and loads of pins and I have a scarf that I will tie on my arm and a pink headband.

    Sorry I didnt get to meet you. What an awesome day! Registering the walkers was fun and can't believe how many walkers. Sara said clode to 5,000. Thanks for walking--let me know how it went.

    When I saw the crowds Friday night I knew the chances of finding you were pretty remote. I hung around the Sheraton for a while after I registered but the volunteers were so busy.

    I noticed that breastcancer.org had a booth at the Sheraton and at the Wellness Village.



    It was a great weekend. I walked with 3 women from my county, all 1st time walkers who signed up just to do something good.

    We started from Pier 84 at 42nd St at 7:00am, walked through Times Square, downtown through Greenwich Village, Little Italy, Chinatown, over the Manhattan Bridge to Brooklyn, then back over the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan. We were back in Manhattan by10:30! Then we walked back to the west side and walked all the way up to the George Washington Bridge where we crossed into New Jersey. It was an unusually warm day, but there were rest stops about every 2 miles where we could refill our water bottles, get snacks and use the port-a-potties. I got a little sunburned but no blisters.

    We got to the Wellness Village about 6:30, got foot massages, had dinner, took showers in a truck, and pitched a tent to sleep.

    The next morning, after packing up and having breakfast we walked back to Manhattan and down the west side back to Pier 84-another 13.1 miles. I was happy to see my family who volunteered for the Closing Ceremonies.

    NY walkers raised over $10 million for breast cancer research and support services.
