Has anyone had trouble with their eyes after treatment for breast cancer? Namely iritis?
In 6/05 dx at age 46 (premeno) with stage 1, 1.5cm and .04 cm tumors, lumpectomy with sentinal node neg. Er- Pr- and Her 2 +++. Had 4 rounds of A/C then rads for 26 and taxol with herceptin for 12 cycles then I was to continue with Herceptin for 1 year but had to stop early Nov 06 due to low Muga scores.
I was able to work all 3 of my part time jobs during chemo and rads but this year I have been struggling with unbelievable fatigue and I guess feelings of loss due to treatment stopping.
This iritis is serious and I am going for my 2nd 2nd opinion. Eye doc thinks its from something going on internally as I have not been able to supress it with the eye drops (which cause cataracts and glaucoma). Wondering if maybe I have mets and my onc doesn't do tumor markers, only does tests when I have symptoms.
I did have a MRI of my lower back in june 07 because I was falling and I had a disc problem that required a cortosone shot. It seems to have taken care of the problem but now I'm not sure about the eye issue. It could lead to blindness and I don't know how I would handle another round of BC.

    Dear Pebbles,

I had several bouts with Iritis after my Chemo and ended up with a cataract at 49 years old.  My eyes were so red I had to apologize to my patients as I thought they might think I was on drugs.  The second time took three weeks to clear.  You are correct, it is serious. I went to an opthamologist.

Good Luck and take care, Diane

I've done just about the same treatment as you and am still doing the hercepitn till December. As I was doing the chemo, I developed this thing with my left eye, everything was dark and blurry. I went to a specialist and was diagnosed with macular degeneration. I've never had a problem with my eyes before. My onc says is age related (I'm 56) but it seems strange that I never had any problems till the chemo. My onc is great for saying "it can't be anything that he's doing". They all claim that herceptin has no side effects, who knows?

    Hugs
