Has anyone tried 'Quorn'?
My daughter told me about the recently-marketed Quorn products that are supposed to be a good vegetarian alternative to soy-based products and are made of mushrooms. But this article claims that there is no mushroom in the stuff at all but, rather, it's comprised of a fungus . Nevertheless, I'm wondering if it tastes any good....any experience with Quorn here?

Hi Marin!
Been eating Quorn in the UK for years.....
I use it for making meat-free 'spaghetti bolognese'. I use it straight from the freezer, add to onion and garlic sauteed in olive oil, then some good tomato sauce. Simmer for about 15 minutes....... Sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese and serve with capellini(spaghetti) and a green salad.A really quick meal.
My son, who really prefers meat, says it tastes just like the real thing.

I understood Quorn to be derived from yeasts and fungi, and that those with yeast sensitivity should treat it with caution.

We have been eating Quorn products for a couple of years now. We affectionately refer to them as "Fake chicken nuggets". We've used the nuggets, patties, and cutlets. Also used the grounds for stuff like sloppy joes. We really like the nuggets.

My DH is the most fussy person with his food. Always finds something wrong with it....something to moan about for the rest of the day !!
I did him some Quorn sausages one morning for breakfast, he said they were the best sausages he'd ever eaten, which really is praise from him.
He nearly had a fit when I casually mentioned they were veggie, ranted and raved all day about poisonious food !!! But he had to admit how meat like they were, and I really enjoyed them as well.
I have got some Quorn mince meat, which I shall dish up one day, and not tell him until he's eaten it!! I'll do it one day when I'm off out ,and I can zoom off out of his way while he rants! Men.
We have had them over here 2/3 years I would think, and I cannot tell the difference from ordinary meat.
Isabella.
