hormone therapy

Is anyone doing hormone therapy longer than the traditional 5 years? I keep reading that hormone therapy is probabley the strongest defense for ILC and since it is one to recurr later rather than earlier that hormone therapy may be extended.

Minuet - I'm only 19 months out since Dx. I have been on some sort of "anti-hormone" therapy since the end of July 2006. My onc said I would be on it for 5 years unless something better came along. I have not broached the subject of beyond 5 years as I am just not in that place yet. karen

minuet--my mom had ILC (stage one), lumpectomy, radiation, tamox for 5 years--is now a survivor of almost 21 years! I've been taking tamox for almost 4 years as a preventative (I have LCIS and the family history), not sure what they oncologist has in mind after next year (he has talked about arimidex or no hormonal at all, my pcp has talked about evista possibly).

AWB....that is so great to hear about your mom being a longterm survivor. How did she find her ILC?

I had read some article a few weeks ago about women who did  5 years tamox followed by an AI for another 5 had better outcomes than those just doing tamox for 5years. Haven't heard that this is going to be standard treatment though.
