I just had my oophoroctomy and hysterectomy with fallopian tubes removed.  Was in last Thursday the 13th and out the next morning.  Got a letter in the mail today that the long term disability insurance is now doing an extensive investigation to see if I will require benefits past the end of November.( 1 year of long term).... I know that it is recommended that I have 4-6 weeks off for ooph and hyster.  I will also be having my nipples done sometime in the near future etc. The truth be that I am extremely hesitant to go back to work... I have a new job I have never done and want a really good breaking in period.  Has anyone got any tips for me?  Thanks in advance.

I can see no reason you should need more time off than the 6 weeks provided by end of Nov .  The nipples should't be a problem unless you have to carry a lot things that would rub against your chest.

What type of job are you starting?

I was on part-time long-term disability during my chemo and through my revision surgery.  The state of California allows you to keep your disability case open as long as you do not work more hours than your regularly scheduled hours.  My PS wrote a letter to my work stating that I could not work more than 32 hours per week through a week past my anticipated surgery.  So I worked 32 hours a week and disability picked up the other day.  This avoided having to take another 10 days of sick/vacation time to open another case for the time I was off for my revisions.  When I had my nipples and tattooing done, it was outpatient surgery and I was out for the day.  Good luck.
