What's a girl to do!!
Hi Ladies...Thanks for your comments on foods etc to avoid...Does anyone get all hung up on all the therapies one can do like me...I read constantly on what you can do and I feel as though I should do them all or else it might return...I wonder if I am wasting my time...ie...putting a filter on my showerhead, air purifiers, taking enzymes & other supplements and the list goes on & on...
PS...Avatar...I like your German Shepherd...I have one too!

I suggest taking the middle of the road.
If you have some unhealthy habits, use your bc diagnosis as an impetus for change.
As far as air purifiers and water filters, well I will say that as far as the latter is concerned, your water will probably taste better but as for showering under a water filter the benefits seem questionable.
I take curcumin, vitamin E and a calcium supplement plus D in addition to Tamoxifen. I have thought about taking other things but I haven't as of yet.
I still drink alcohol and eat meat. I try to know my food sources and not eat too many processed foods.
I did not want to give up what I feel adds to my quality of life.
I was once told by a psychiatrist that there were women who had lived their entire adult lives in ashrams, eating organic, meditating and living a very healthy lifestyle and they still got cancer.
It's a crap shoot.

Some things I'm happy about looking into since first dx'd. Antioxidants is one which led to drinking a fruit smoothie every other day or so. They're delicious. Then taking soy out of my diet was the other. I was a soy fiend before dx. A lot of good that did me to eat so much soy.
Then I found a local store that is full of organic products, I never would have glanced in that direction before. Nor would I have had a couple of cups of green tea each day that is also very tasty. I buy the loose leaves and brew it. Much better taste.
These things will stay with me forever. So I'm glad I went a little nutsy after being dx'd. Yes, I still filter my drinking water with 2 filters. It tastes a heck of a lot better.

I haven't changed what I eat very much. I am working on eating more fruits and veggies, but I've been working on that for years now. I do buy organic or locally grown produce when its conveniently available and not too much more costly than non-organic, the grocery budget only stretches so far, after all. I have added magnesium (for depression) and melatonin (for sleep) to my regimen, after reviewing as much research as I could manage. Neither seem to have problematic side effects and a good likelihood of being helpful, and both have helped me. I have tried some other things that also checked out but stopped when I didn't see any benefit in myself. So far I don't find supplements and herbal remedies to be much different from chemical medications, some work for me, some don't. It's not unusual for someone to try several blood pressure or antidepression pills before finding one that works, it seems the same applies to supplements and herbals.
My conclusion about all the life-style and cancer research I've reviewed is that there isn't any really hard and fast evidence that life-style changes have a realiable effect on the development or recurrence of cancer. There was a recent, large study comparing women with bc who ate a vegietarian diet to those who ate a more typical Western diet and found no difference is recurrence rates.
The shepherd is my Snookie. I took that picture of her in her usual position when I've been on the computer for what she considers to be too long (usually about 30 seconds). She lies there looking at me with those big, sad eyes and sighs a lot.

I don't think those ladies in that study were eating 100 %vegetarian. It sounded to me that they just added 5 fruits and veggies to their diet, and they couldn't keep to eating only 20% of their calories as fats. Actually, I think they were just all overeating, cause they gained weight even though they were supposedly walking a half hour 6 days a week. Something is very wrong with that study.
