Yeast Infections
Okay, so I have one. Beats the alternative of my suspected vaginal atrophy. {Lesson learned, don't try and be your own diagnostician.} OMG, it is hard to give up my red wine and Ben and Jerry's. A friend sugested AZO, a homeopathic remedy I can purchase at a local drug store.
I was wondering what other ladies do to treat their infections.
Thank you for your help.

Hi:
with every chemo treatment I got "thrush", for which the dr, gave me fluconozole......worked great. Thrush is the same but in a different place
hope this helped, best of luck

I eat a cup of yogurt every day, especially after taking antibotics. Also taking 300mg of Olive leaf extract 2 times a day helps.

I eat lots of yogurt too.And I have added some to my vagina with an applicator for estrogen cream! When things are bad, nothing works like fluconozole. But yogurt, and probiotic capsules, and even topical use of yogurt is helpful, and in the topical, soothing.Peak treatment-fluconozole AND eating yohurt!
I found that yeast infections were partners with the beginning of menopausal vaginal atrophy.I would get them frequestly after intercourse, and after my yearly gyno appointment. I was told that to an atrophying vagina, these things cause miniscule tears, which often get sore and develop yeast infections. My gyno would give me Premarin cream to use for the next 5 days after my exam.
I got rid of my husband.(Sorry.This is NOT a good answer, but it saved me from those long arguements, and "having all those headaches")My husband was not liberated and would complain that I was "making too big a deal about this whole menopause thing."
Another coping mechanism was to quit wearing jeans. The seam between the legs...rubbed me the wrong way.(I could have bought bigger jeans, but that's not too fashionable!
And the last thing I can recommend is to carefully watch what you put in there!A gynocologist I read said we are NOT dirty, and do not need to wash our vaginas with soap!Simple water is fine.
I add :ESPECIALLY deodoramt soaps.Stuff like Dove might be OK if you MUST soap it.The HAIR is all that needs to be soaped, said the gyno.
Bubble bath w/chemicals is OUT.The only kind of bubble bath or shower gel I can now tolerate is totally natural, from Whole Foods, or from Essential Oils.
I'm a senior citizen of 65 who has gone through natural menopause and is now suffering from actual vaginal atrophy from 3 and 1/2 years of Femara.I know what I'm talking about!
Sign me Ow!Ow! I'm not as I used to be!

Hello ladies,
An overgrowth of yeast is something that seems to be more common now than it has ever been. It can overgrow in any part of the body not only the vagina. It can overgrow in men too. I found all of this out by accident. Read the chapter on yeast in the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. If you take Caprylic Acid, which is a short chain fatty acid, it will kill the overgrowth of yeast in your body. But if you have an active vaginal yeast infection, you will need to use some Monostat or some other vaginal yeast product. After you have cleared up the yeast infection, start taking Caprylic Acid and it will continually kill any overgrowth of yeast and you will not likely ever have another vaginal yeast infection again. It kills overgrowth of yeast in other ares of the body too. I have talked to several doctors about Caprylic Acid and they say our body produces some of it and it is safe to use. Good luck ! mountainair

Hi Ladies;
Spit Test. I tested positive for yeast by doing the spit test. First thing in the morning, (before you eat, drink or brush your teeth) spit in a clear glass of water and watch to see if your saliva floats on top or grows legs and sinks to the bottom. If it sinks, you have yeast in your system. I read on one of the cancer websites that everyone that gets breast cancer has yeast but not everyone with yeast will get breast cancer. I take 2 acidophilus tablets a day and drink water with baking soda. (no aluminum) It seems to be working for me.
