    HI FROM MONHEGAN!!

Hello girls....haven't forgotten you, in fact I'm still on vacation with a very weak connection and am glad to see this thread is still going.

I think I've finally managed to lose a few pounds!!!! The shorts and pants I bought for vacation are much to big now. Here's a pic

    image

Better post this before I lose connection!!I think I need something to rehab my brain though, I seem to have lost my technical ability to paint. I read that taxotere can do this!!!

Glad about your job....!!! Good work gals!!!

Raye, I hope everything went well for you on Wednesday. Please give us an update when you feel up to it. Tina, welcome to the thread. MizSissy is the motivator here! By the way MizSissy, the picture looks great - hope you are having a good time. We've missed you. Dottie - Your golf probably keeps you more fit than the rest of us!
One question - did anyone lose their eyelashes again? Mine came back strong after I was done with treatment and just recently have really come out again. Mary, I think you finished when I did - did this happen to you?

    Raye- How'd it go?

    Tina and Dottie-welcome!

MizSissy, that is a great picture! Is that your hair under the bandana?

Carol, Eyelashes are about the only hair that came back on me! So far they are hanging in there. I will cry like a baby if I lose those, seeing as how I still have bald patches on my eyebrows and hair so thin you can see my scalp.

I seem to be gathering wieght around my middle despite my best efforts. I'm not gaining wieght, just seem to be relocating some body fat. I would like to lose the 5 pounds I gained over the summer; maybe that will take care of my creeping middle aged spread. I met a woman at the pool who does this insane sports circuit workout twice a week at the same time that I swim. She has talked me into trying it on Monday, although I am afraid I won't be able to keep up. She says it is really fun. They use bikes, free weights, running, lots of ab work. She's always sweaty when I see her after, and I do love my nice, cool pool, but I think I need to do more ab work! I'll let you all know if I am still able to walk on Tuesday! I think my hubby is going to join us.

We leave for a dive trip to the Keys on Thursday! So far no hurricanes in sight, and since I didn't buy trip insurance, I'm keeping a close eye on them!

Hope you all have a great weekend.

    Hi ladies:

My computer has been in the shop for a couple of days and I've been lost without it!!!!

Raye - how are you doing after surgery? Check in when you can.

Dottie & Carol - glad to see you're checking in.

Mizsissy - hope you are enjoying your vacation

Tina - welcome, we could all use motivation

Mary - I heard on the weather forecast this am that the tropics are unusually quiet....hope they stay that way for your trip.

I vacationed the latter part of July and have been working out sporadically since. I had my chemo port removed last Tuesday so I haven't exercised since. I'm not allowed in the water until next Friday. I guess I'll go to the gym and walk on the treadmill.....BORING. My chest is a little sore but hopefully will subside soon.

Take care everybody and have a good week!!!

Hi all, thanks for the welcome notes.
MizSissy -- Can you tell us how to add photos in the message? I sent an inquiry to Melissa/Tami and was told I could not insert photos, but I see it on many other threads too... help?
Tina -- my last chemo was Jan 18 and my hair sprouted on March 1. I've been lucky it grew pretty fast.
Carol -- my eyelashes came back strong in March/April but as those fell out and more grew back, they have been shorter... lots of them, but too short to curl and use mascara, so haven't bothered.
Raye -- Hope you are recovering nicely and have so many visitors and flower deliveries that you haven't had time to check in.
Mary -- Have a GREAT time diving in the Keys -- looks like weather should be very cooperative.
    Take care, everyone.

Just a quick check in to say that I did not go to the sports circuit work out on Monday. In fact, I went out to eat and had cheese enchiladas and a giant frozen margarita!

Hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend!

    Hello gals,

I'm back. I feel like we drove to Australia, in the sun. I'm tired. You know, I had all kinds of illusions about being "perfectly" back in shape two months out of treatment, but I'm tired. OK. I can live with that.

Lost weight in Maine, but I'm afraid I gained it back in Quebec. There is something they make for breakfast in the hotels there called a croissant which is nothing like a croissant you've ever had in the US. It is freshly baked, comes to you 10 minutes out of the oven. It is not flakely, it is light and fluffy and tastes wonderful with butter and jam---if you have the patience to doctor it before you eat it!!! Mine disappeared before I had a chance to get the butter on.

Then we ran out of snacks on the way home and ate things like coke & potato chips & uh, Eggs Benedict at the B&B where we stayed in Ontario.

But Erik has a week off, and we're just going to cool it, bike, eat healthy, and have a vacation from the vacation at home this week, so I think I'll be back down in the under 130 territory soon!!!

Mary, enjoy your new job,and I hope you enjoyed your Margarita!!!

    Mizsissy,
So nice to have you back!
Your pictures are wonderful as is your french. Thank God for one year of college french at McGill University (and before that all those years of Latin).
    Raye,
I hope your surgery went well and you are already feeling better.
    Mary,
Glad to hear the new job is going well! I hope you enjoyed your diving adventure.
Howdie Carol! I haven't been to Long Beach Island in a bazillion years but I remember liking it very much. I am glad you had a good time.
Welcome to the new ladies who are fighting the pound.

Now what is up with this weight gain I have had as of late?
Those pounds have not yet come off and I have a pooch!!!

Now granted, my exercising has gone off and my alcohol consumption has gone up but surely hot flashes count for some calorie loss?
My hubbie and I moved his new fishing boat from Cape Charles, Virginia to Morehead City, NC this weekend. We traveled through a portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Intercostal Waterway, Albermarle and Pamlico sounds and had a fabulous time with some very good eats. If you ever find yourselves in Coinjock NC I highly recommend the crab meat stuffed flounder at the Coinjock Marina.

I better get back on the bike this weekend.

    Happy happy joy joy

Mizsissy, glad you had such a nice vacation. Your picture is so cute.

Had my expander replacement with implant last Tuesday and the nurse in day surgery has opened a new health joint locally, offering Pilates, etc. I'm going to start with her as soon as my ps says I am okay for it. Cannot wait.

Any of you do Pilates? What are your experiences? It seems that with its focus on strengthening the mid-section, it would be great for our little pooches.

    Happy labor day!

    Hi Gals..

DH & I decided that I need a month's vacation from the cyberspace....It kind of interfered with our "real" vacation so now I'm taking a vacation from the vacation. Sorry to abandon ship so soon after calling you all back.

Get healthy, get strong, and I'll be back to check on before too long!!! I hope to hear some great reports!!!

    Hello All!!!

Missed my eh em work out buddies.

Traci and Dotti - thanks and welcome!!!! Dotti, I started coming to this thread because of the workout theme, but as I've mentioned before, I've fallen off the wagon, so now come here for the lovely company!

Mz S, you look freakin hot in that pic, lady! Thanks for sharing and congrats on the weight loss. Quebec sounds like a wonderful place. I assume you were in Quebec City? I've been to Montreal several times, but never Quebec City. Sounds wonderful.

Carol - Thanks for the well wishes. I don't want to comment on the eyebrows in fear of jinxing myself. Does that answer your question?

Casey - oh dear, that crab meat stuffed flounder is sending me into a frenzy of hunger!!! Sounds like your trip(s) was fantastic.

Mary - I hope you had a great time in the keys and your dives were spectacular.

Cathy - I know it...walking on the treadmill...zzz. But you've got to start somewhere. That is where I will be next week after this swelling goes away.

Tina - I've done some Pilates - the Denise Austin and the Daisy Fuentes variety - DVD. I've never taken a formal class; however, the DVD's (especially Denise's), really worked my abs and helped tremendously with stretching my arm after my first mast and lymph node removal.

All is well; back to work today. Just have a bit of swelling, which is due to fluid buildup - the surgeon will aspirate tomorrow. This time was much easier...no lymph nodes were removed. I also opted for a bigger prostheses - size 3 instead of 1 - ohh la la. Not big, but big for moi.

Have a wonderful evening ladies. Next week I will begin my shape up.

    xoxo

    Hi Everybody!

Raye- Welcome back! Your hair looks so cute in that picture! Glad your surgery went well and you are back at work.

    MizSissy- Enjoy your cyber vacation!

I had a great trip to Miami. We did six gorgeous dives out of Key Largo and then spent two days eating and drinking in Miami. So many beautiful people to stare at! The weather was perfect, the water was crystal clear. We saw two nurse sharks and three sting rays and lots of pretty fish that I can't identify. Great fun.

So, now I'm back home, and I am going to the sports circuit class tonight. Really. No, really. I am.

Tina, I used to do Pilates, and I loved it. I didn't take a class, but I bought a book and dvd and did it at home. It is really great for the core muscles. I would love to get back into it, but I just can't make myself work out on weekends at home, and the Y where we swim has their Pilates classes scheduled during the work day which just won't work for me. Hence the stupid sports circuit class- because that is what is offered while my kids are doing swim team.

Hope you all have a great week. If I can move tomorrow, I'll let you know how the sports circuit went.

    Mary,

Your silence has me wondering how the sports circuit went.  Are you still with us?

Glad to hear you had such a nice trip.

    Raye,

I am glad to hear that you are doing well and ready to start doing the shape up again.

    Tina,

I hope that you are feeling good and ready to start Pilates. Pilates is definitely good for strengthening the core muscles, flattening the pouch and improving posture.  It is easy to cheat and not use the right muscles (you want to use your transverse abdominals plus the other guys- most of us forget we have the transverse) so make sure your instructer keeps a close eye on your technique until you have it dialed in.

    Guess what!

    Pouch is gone!

I had my butt handed to me when I joined a group ride in Atlantic Beach two weekends ago.  It was a group ride of two, me and a guy who had just come back from the national track championships.  I'm like, "Are there any women on this ride?"  He says, "Usually yes but Audrey hit my back tire, fell and seperated her shoulder."  Off we go.  45 miles into this ride I ask him what he ate for breakfast so that he didn't bonk. "Oh just a bagel." BAGEL!!! I had two pieces of toast, two eggs, orange juice, coffee and two cookies and if I don't eat soon I am going to start gnawing on my own tongue.  For 56 miles he didn't stop and he had slowed down a lot for me. When I finally made it back home I had a big bowel of spagetti and meatballs and half a container of ben and jerry's mint ice cream (now that is some good stuff!) Then I slept for an hour. I woke up and no more belly.

I think I will try and ride again with him this weekend but bring some Gu.  I will never have a belly again if I do this Sunday ride twice a month. Ack!!!!

    Take care all!

acgw, you are awesome!  I cannot even ride a bike!  My father used to say I was graceful as a gazelle with two broken legs. Cry Well, I'm a knitter, not a biker. LOL

No pooch left?  Maybe I oughtta get a bike????  Well, maybe not.  I do walk and just was reading about Nordic walking.  I'm going to the sports supply store tomorrow when I go into the city for my ps appt.  Gotta check out those poles!

    Keep up the good work.

Hi Gals, sorry to abandon you so abruptly last week.

First of all, some very unpleasant things happened on the boards.  A close friend of mine was very viciously attacked in a very organized way in another part of this forum where women seem to get a thrill out organizing witch hunts   Extremely personal, sensitive, and misleading information was posted publicly on the boards that was very harmful to her.   This is not the first time this has happened to a friend.  I feel that I no longer want to post anything personal about myself or friends in a public forum.

However, I love this group and I am thinking of starting a private discussion group by invitation only.  Both Google and Yahoo provide a free service for this sort of thing.  I want to keep the group quite small and limit it only to trusted friends.  That way no one will get lost....or hurt..!!  So I am thinking of moving this all to a private forum by invitation only...what do you think about that?

I asked the moderator to delete my profile & posts several times and got no action...so in the meantime I've taken a new name and
polished up my profile a bit...heck, the pic is old, but maybe it can inspire me.  Anybody know a good way to get rid of wrinkles?!!  Anyone tried BOTOX?!!!

Sorry if I've got you confused!!!!

    Love to all...

    Mizsissy/Myranda,

    I'm not too confused......

but I am sorry to hear about your friend and her experience on the boards.  I think that we have all found these boards to be of great comfort and inspiration and it is disappointing to me to hear that your friend has felt unwelcome and attacked.  That is not excusable.

This new format also has me confused.  When I type I am now in something like 24 font and while I have become nearsighted I don't need the print that big.

    Raye,

Just noticed the new Avatar.  I love all the curls but I miss the blue, floating in pool look.

    Tina,

My father once said to me, "How can someone so graceful in the water be such a clutz on land?" (Used to be on the swim team) so I can relate to being challenged in the coordination department.  I would probably stab myself in the foot with a nordic pole.  I have seen people do that type of walking and I must say it looks like good exercise.

    Oh yeah, about the botox.

My friend Catherine regularly gets treated and it makes her look like a well rested 43 year old.  When I was in my 20's I said "No way!" to cosmetic surgery/botox (well, it wasn't around then but if it was...), in my 30's I said "It's not for me but I can understand why some women chose it."  Now that I am 43 and staring at these amazinf frown lines (T.G. for bangs) I am thinking, "I wonder if I really need that new dishwasher or, hmmm botox, or maybe a chemical peel...."

Look the best you can at any age.  Living and looking well is the best revenge.

Casey...well, now I'm ten years past you and I'm beginning to deal with the problem by purposely not getting my glasses updated, then at least I can't see myself clearly.

But this is not working.  I need to do something.

I couldn't agree with you more.  Living well is the best revenge.

Raye...I like your curls, but I  miss that old picture of you, looking up at us out of private blue pool.

I think I need some professional hair advice!!!

    Casey,

It's so nice to see a picture of you...I love the sun shining through the water..the wind blowing your hair.

I am still think of starting a private group...trying to come up with a name because once you've picked one you can't change it...here are some I thought of

Bosom Buddies --- cute, but, aren't we past that already?

Healing Women ---  that encompasses a lot, or maybe Women Healing Women

    Healing & Helping --

    Just Among Us

    Trusted Friends

Living Well is the Best Revenge ...a little long but maybe it could work...or howabout "Living Our Best"

    Body & Soul

    Soul Circle

    Any more ideas here????

    Hi Everybody!

I have been so busy at work that I haven't had much time for the internet!  But I'm still here!  I still haven't done the sports circuit.  I was all set to go last week, but then my husband and I decided we needed to buy cute new workout clothes.  (Priorities, right?)  So, then we were going to do it on Monday, but we ended up painting the kitchen instead. (Trying to complete the longest remodel project in history... Tired of washing dishes in the bathroom!) To make this long story longer, we are really, really going to do it tonight!  The cute guy I like to flirt with at the "Y" promised to make us do it with him and his wife tonight!  (Did that sound dirty?)  So, one week after my last post, I say again, "I'll let you know how it went tomorrow if I can still move!"

I love the pictures you all have posted!  And Myranda, I love knowing your name!  I will try to post a picture at home tonight.  After sports circuit.

As for all that biking, Casey!  Wow!  I am very impressed!

Raye, are you working out again?  Hope you are feeling well.

As far as a private group, I don't necessarily think we need it.  We should not let ourselves be run off by a few bad apples,  but I'll go with the flow.  Whatever you guys want to do.  Some names:  Spa Babes; Die Pretty.  Umm, that's the best I can do.

It's funny, I've been thinking about botox, too.  I am 42, and I don't like the little furrow between my eyebrows. Or, to be more precise, the spot between where my eyebrows used to be.  I was thinking I would talk to my plastic surgeon the next time I go in about what he could do for me.  I was thinking, "If I die in a few years, I'll feel stupid for spending money on that.  But if I live to be 90, which is my plan, then I'll feel stupid for being to afraid to do it!"

And in case you all need motivation, I was re-reading some of the research on the website.  Exercising the equivalent of three hours of moderately paced walking per week cuts our risk of recurrence by 50 PERCENT!  The article had this whole thing about metabolic hours.  If walking for one hour is one metabolic hour, then swimming laps or running for one hour is 7 metabolic hours, and so on.  The maximum exercise benefit was (if I remember correctly) 15-21 metabolic hours per week.  There was no advantage recurrence-wise for exercising more hours than that, but there was a HUGE disadvantage to exercising less.  So, if you are like me, and you are always wondering what else you can do to cut your recurrence risk, HIT THE GYM!  Or pool, or pavement, or snow!  Whatever works for you.

And now I am going to sports circuit in my cute outfit!

    Mary

    Mary,

Congratulations on your cute new sports outfit!!!  I bet it looks fabulous on your nice slim figure!

I am getting used to the new forum and I think I like it, but so far I've got two votes for going private.  Heard from Raye via email and she definitely doesn't want to post here any more.  And I also have another friend who'd like to come on board; she's a former hair dresser and stylist and might be a great help with some new hairdos (ugh, now that we all have the same one!!!).

I love the name "Spa Babes"...I also liked "Pretty Women" but I think that was taken.

    Myranda:

I'm trying to get used to the new forum and prefer to stay here.  I'm finally getting back into the swing of my "new normal" and one more place to go seems like a lot but I don't want to let go of my online buddies so I'll go with the flow.  Locally, I'm a member of a support group called "Bosom Buddies".  Right now I can't think of any other names but I'll think about it.

I've been trying to keep up the exercise program.  Since vacation late July, I've been rather sporadic because of having my port removed and school starting.  Now, there's NO excuses so this week I've been to water aerobics, body sculpting and working out in the gym with free weights and on the treadmill.  I can hardly walk after the body sculpting yesterday.  I LOVE the class but the instructor was really tough!!!!

Will check back to see what everyone decides.

I just wanted to throw my vote in.

This site is convenient but I think it is important to continue this thread in a location where everyone feels safe and supported.  If even one of us does not feel comfortable then I say let us all take this thread to a  new location.

    Casey

PS:  My husband is going to help me to shrink the picture so I don't look like a giant nose.

PPS: We think we took this picture last spring.  Now there is no wind blowing through my hair without turning it into a bushy mess.

    Damn curls!

    Mary,

I bet you look hot!  I think you absolutely had your priorities in order.

    Raye,

Just noticed the new avatar.  I am going to have to check in daily just to see what you've posted for the day.

    Your dog is cute.

Mine is a nincompoop.  I went to a fund raising event last night and he periodically felt the need to drag me across the lawn in order to sniff another dog. He is good around people but he is a putz around other dogs.  I think I need to get back to training him.

    Hi Folks,

Let's keep up the discussion about this. I do like this new forum, but the Private Google forums are pretty good too. And they are completely PRIVATE; membership can be by invitation only, and only members can read the posts. Here is my thinking today

    1. I think it's really important to have a SAFE place where we don't have to worry about trolls or women who want to be abusive. Also, sometimes I like to discuss personal things with you gals, and I don't want this stuff Googled all over the web.

    2. Over the course of the past three months, I have had personal messages from at least four [went back and checked] of the women who joined up here who told me that they'd been the subject of witch hunts...and told me they liked the thread but they were not going to post anymore in a public. It seems to me that the women who tend to be the subject of these witch hunts are talented positive women, and it is often the no-doers, and negative ones that like to pick on people like this. I would really like to bring these positive women back to a place where they feel safe.

    3. When I started the thread, I invited one of the sisters [five] here who has a great reputation for being very proactive, staying fit, and so forth, to come and post, but she told me she'd had so much harassment on this web site that she never wanted to give advice again.

    4. Finally, it is one of the rules of this forum that you do not reveal private information about another person without that person's permission. But there is no way to enforce this on a public forum except by the honor system. Recently one of the BC women here, someone with a very bad temper, revealed a lot of personal damaging and personal information about a close friend of mine that was very damaging to her. The thread was deleted, but absolutely nothing was done about this by the moderators. IN private forum this could never happen because the forum is private.

    5. In a small private forum we could limit membership to women who we can trust, people we know well, and who share our goals.

    6. Finally and most importantly for me, I have a wonderful dear positive friend [sixth person] would love to join us, who has many positive gifts to offer, spiritually and practically (she used to be beauty professional) and she just isn't safe on the BC forum anymore.

So that's my thinking now....any more name ideas?

I (gasp) survived (gasp) sports circuit!  (Gasp!)  It was really fun and very exhilarating!  It is so nice to be feeling strong and fit again.  Here's how sports circuit works.  There are about 15 stations with 12 people at each station.  Some of the stations are:  torture by stationary bike, two stations whereby the torture is by squats with weights, torture by jogging in place while punching the air with hand weights, torture by:  THREE different ab work stations, one with a ball, one with some kind of half-ball balance thing, one on a mat; two jogging stations; a jump rope station, a push-up station.  You only stay at each one for about three minutes, and an incredibly fit guy with a microphone is encouraging us the whole time while loud hip hop music plays.  A nice guy took pity on me as I klutzed around on the step aerobic part, and he counted with me until I got the hang of it: Step, down, over, up, around, step...)  I am not known for my grace!  After we had made it around the circle once, I thought "Hey, that wasn't so bad!"  And then I realized we had to go around two more times!  But I made it!  This morning my calves are a little sore, but the rest of me feels ok.  And like you after your bike ride, Casey, I woke up thinking, Wow, my stomach is flatter already!

New idea for name:  Cancer Vixens.  It's also the name of a really great graphic novel by a cool graphic artist with bc.

Hey Miranda-  I just noticed that we are both Stage 1, Grade 3 Node-, and ER+PR+Her2-!

Cathy-congrats on your workouts!  Keep it up!

Raye, I love your dog!  We have an old black dog who sleeps all day, and a new yellow puppy who cries at night.  We put her in a crate at night, and last night I got up at 3am when she started barking to let her out, and she woke us up again at 5am.  We let her bark and whine for about 5 minutes, and then my husband went and told her "NO!" and she actually stopped barking!  She is pretty much house trained, but I am afraid to let her loose in the house at night.

Hi All! Wow this font is huge. I hope it doesn't show up like this!

Myranda- I changed my mind (imagine that), just keeping it light and not too personal, you know? I will try and think of a name for us, although I must admit to not being very creative lately!  Again, as I mentioned yesterday, you are a tremendous lady and such a help to me when I need someone to talk with! Thank you for that.

Casey, I love your picture and your hair blowing! It is LONG. I blew mine out today and looked like a Harlem Globetrotter, so I took a TON of gel and tried to calm it down a bit. My dog doesn't have that problem, so there he is my avatar for the week. And yes, my Lab pulled me down to visit some people in the campground we belong to. I had no control over him without his haltie on (85 lbs). Usually he is great, but there were two dogs down at the other site and he just had to go see them and the people.

Wow, you are such an athlete and inspiration to me! How much do you work out? No pooch. You must be tight as a drum.

Mary - I just got the go ahead yesterday to work out, she said I could run a mile. ha. I don't know if I can even do that. I am going to start Monday. You know, funny you mention Botox - I have always been against plastic surgery - always. But now, after having things cut off, sewn up, drained, etc., it doesn't seem like such a big deal anymore and I am open to the idea and in the future if I feel like having something done, I will (if I can afford it).

Cathy - sounds as though you've been doing a lot of exercising! Good for you. Congrats again on that port removal.

Talk to you all soon. Girlfriend and I are going for pedicures at lunch. Need some pampering.

    Raye

ps - doesn't look like I can preview my response as before, so forgive any typos or stupid statements...

    xoxoxo

Oooh Raye...luv your names.  Survivor Fit Club is great, but I think I like Ladies of the Light even better!!!!

Let's go for it!!!  I'll try and set this up...you'll need to PM me your emails here.  All of this will be TOTALLY INVISIBLE except to our group, which includes most of the women plus just a two or three others who we know might like to join.
