Triple negative: RX Herceptin

I don't know if this rocks the whole breast cancer world, but it does for me. My wife is stage IV, has been triple negative since her first diagnosis 10 years ago. They have tried every type of chemotherappy drug out there. She's had adriamyacin, epirubicin, abraxane, xeloda, avastin,  zometa, navelbine, carboplatin and cisplatin. And probably a few that I can't remember. Last week when we talked to the ONC it was apparent to me that he was without hope. His eyes did not meet mine, he was evasive and visibly upset. Today he was a different man. He went to a BC seminar in California over the weekend and had a plan now.

To make a long story a little bit short, they went back to the origional pathology slide from when cancer was removed from her breast a few years ago. They rechecked the results and found that there was an over expression of her2neu that was not previously reported. Something about chromosome #17 being duplicated. (A whole bunch of techno mumbojumbo)...
She starts taking herceptin on Friday. And she is confirmed triple negative. Somebody want to explain this to me in terms a guy like me can understand?

MD Anderson Houston spoke to me also about taking some of the Her2 meds.  (This is only as trials or special approval from ins.)

They even offered the Her2 vaccine.  Than backed off everything with no real reason why????
