Good Morning All:

This is my first post; apologizing in advance if this has been discussed already.

I was diagnosed with IBC Stage IIIB on 6/7/07, ER+/PR-/HER2+++; completed 4 rounds of A/C and 2 of 4 rounds of Taxol/Herceptin (regimen is T/H biweekly, Herceptin weekly); breast has shrunk dramatically and appearance of skin has improved greatly. Saw Onc last Thursday, she states that although she is very pleased with results, breast is still inoperable due to the fact that my skin has not "dryed up" enough yet and is concerned that surgeon would have to take too much of chest wall; stated may do Rads pre-op as well as post-op. Am hoping to be deemed "operable" sooner rather than later (never thought I would be looking forward to a mastectomy, but I am).

Have any of you expereinced or heard of a similar scenario?

TIA

    Sense,

I was diagnosed with IBC in 8/01 but I was not deemed ready for surgery until 2/02.  My redness to my breast cleared up considerably when I started receiving herceptin but it was still 6 months before the surgery.  It does not sound like your situation is taking an inordinate amount of time.

I was diagnosed back in May, and I still am not ready for surgery.  i have been doing weekly taxol and herceptin, just finished my 4th month of treatment.  Probably at least 1-2 more months until mastectomy surgery, and then radiation once I have healed. My doc says that as long as the skin still has edema and infamation, it won't heal if they cut into it.  I have a 19 month old baby that loves to hug and climb all over me, so I am really not looking forward to surgery, because I won't be able to hold him, or have him around me until I heal.

    Good luck to you!
