Fumi-Thank you for posting this, you are amazing. It will certainly be of great use to all who like to post pictures.
With the new forum I was having a hard time trying to figure out about posting pics/gifs. Linda and Peter came to my rescue.
First I couldn't figure out which URL to use, then as the 'Duh'
that I am I just kept copying and pasting directly into a message box (completely forgetting to use the insert/edit image function) and wondering what I was doing wrong.
Thanks again Fumi.

Yes, Fumi, thank you. I will post a "TIP" item pointing to this conversation so as many users as possible can benefit.

Hey, this is fun, why did I wait a year to learn this
-
where did my 'old' picture go?? and my signature??

Thanks Fumi,
In all the time I've been here it's always been a mystery to me how to post a picture, so I'm going to print this out with such well thought out concise directions----I'm liable to become an expert. LOL
Really helpful!

Fumi,
I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I used to post pictures from photobucket all the time. I followed your instructions but when I paste the code I just get a blank text box. As you can see from my post above picture does not come out. Any suggestions? Thanks.
-
First, on the "insert image" window on the forum, make sure you click on the blank box for the image link to place the cursor in it, or nothing will be pasted.
When you click on the "Direct Link" on your Photobucket page, does it say "copied"? If yes, then see if you can paste the code on your memopad or MS Word or something like that. If that goes through, then the problem is not you but the forum. But if not, it's either that something is wrong with your computer, or that automatic copy on Photobucket isn't compatible with your computer. Click on the "Direct Link" anyway and hightlight the code. Hit "C" key on your keyboard while pressing "Ctrl" (Command for a Mac) key. That lets you copy the code. Then go back to the forum and see if that works. If not, then I would assume that the clipboard on your computer isn't working. If that's the case, you should contact support.

Dear Timtam
Thanks for your advice. I have not tried putting a picture in the general text yet but will say putting in my avitar was 10 times easier than before. I had to shrink it last time but this was easy - no adjusting at all.

I could not get the link provided in the original poster's message to come up. I uploaded a picture from my desktop to the Snapfish website, thinking I could get a photo URL to put in the "insert image" icon in these message boxes, specifically to put in my biography section of my profile. Much to much to my dismay, I did manage to get a too-large picture put in there, BUT for my Internet Explorer browser, it automatically sets off a window that says there is a security issue using HTTP protocol and by not accepting all but safe info, I might compromise my computer and this website! Well, I hit the counter-intuitive "No" and my picture finally came up. But now I am worried if it should be in there. I had to put a "note" in there to let folks know who visited that if they wanted to see the picture and said window came up, they should hit "no," and now I am doubting myself. SOOOOO, whilst I wait to hear back from Snapfish, I am going to delete the whole thing, just in case I have made a dreadful mistake. I will use another photo url type site that allows free sharing of photos. I used to use Photobucket, but they had a virus problem a year or two back, so I won't go there. Does Flickr offer a sharing photo type website? Thanks for any tips from you guys in here. GG

I edited the old link in my original post.
As far as viruses are concerned, there are no 100% safe places in this cyber world but it doesn't mean you can't go anywhere. As long as you stay careful and you have protection on your computer, you should be fine. Even though I only have free anti-virus software (Avira) and been using Photobucket, Flickr and Picasa and a lot of other free online services (fileserve, megaupload etc) for years, I've never got my computer infected.
Using Flickr to post your pictures here is a little complicated. Technically yes you can post your pictures stored on Flickr but it's not as easy as Photobucket. I would not recommend Flickr unless you only want to post the link to your picture (not the picture itself) or you can read some HTML codes. Flickr does provide the option for you to grab the link to your picture but the link doesn't come with a file extension so you can't get the picture posted here because BCO doesn't recognize it as an image file. To get the link with a proper file extention, you need to get a full HTML code and use a certain part of it and omit the rest.
So after all, I would recommend you to keep using Snapfish if you already know how to use it and how to get your pictures saved there to be posted on BCO. You don't need to worry about the warning re: HTTP protocol. You get this warning when you visit a secured website that is protected with SSL and you will find a HTTPS at the beginning of the URL. This happens due to images in the secured webpage that are linked to non secured HTTP protocol sites. You can click yes when you get this warning without worrying about your computer being compromised as long as you are not sending any sensitive information.

TimTam, thanks for coming back to me on this. Your link works perfectly for me now and you have done a bang-up job with the instructions! I shall think about this a little further and figure out something to do, eventually I shall get my picture on here, but side FX are bothering me so much today, that I gotta move along until next time when I can think clearly. GG
-
if you click on the dimensions box.. BCO automatically makes it the right size.. at least for me. you just click.
I have reduced my pics often by 1/2 (easy for me to figure out) to reduce used bandwidth.
-
Fumi - you are really cute and look just like my cousin..
You want to make sure and post the 'address' of your hosted pic and and not the actual image.
-
Glad to see this instruction re-activated. I will have to pass it along to the new members who are always asking about posting pics. Thanks Timtam!

Thank you, Timtam!

I would like to post a photo from my android tablet...the little icons don't showxup in this space like with my computer so I cannot post them...sny suggestions?
-
SoCalLisa, we know that the BCO software isn't yet compatible with some versions of smart devices. Among the enhancements being tested for the next version is mobile optimization that we hope will improve access. We'll keep you posted!

Is there a way to upload piks directly from our computers or is this not allowed because of maybe a security risk or something?
-
Musical, that's right, you do need to have your pics hosted somewhere else, and it is because of security concerns.

Thankyou Mods.

Thank you! I was able to post a picture of my hair three weeks after using cold caps on the "cold caps users" thread just now. I was able to keep my hair through chemo and wanted people to be able to see how it looked, even with some shedding.
