    Way to go Marin!  So glad the colon is clear and you won't need another for 10 years!

    You are funny though..I'm sorry that Pavarotti passed away the other day, pancreatic cancer is one of the very difficult ones.  But you make me smile, saying you can get on with obsessing about having that cancer.  It makes me smile, but at the same time, we do that, don't we?  How can we not?

    Great advice on the sanitary napkin or a depends or something like that...that extra bit of confidence goes a long way.

    Hubby had his as well.

    One TINY polyp. I read that cancerous ones are usually big -- so it's not worry time!

    He's such a dummy. The nurse tells him to do clear liquids the rest of the day afterwards because heavier food will make his tummy hurt. So first thing he does is go to CVS and get chocolate milk!

     I drove home. About an hour later he's telling me his tummy hurts.

    Ha Ha, Marin.  You wore a sanitary napkin.  My friend MADE her dh wear pull on depends.  And, made him sleep in them the night before the procedure. 

     You were smart.  I was till "going" the morning of and I didn't wear one.  Boy, wouldn't I have been embarrassed if "you know what" had happened. Laughing

    Valerie....I gotta be in a weird mood because I read your post about my 'not having to go for another 10 years' and thought you meant not having to 'go' in the sense of moving one's bowels. Guess it's just still on my mind, ya know? Anyway, I'm happy to report that I feel quite cancer-free today and it can't get any better than that!

    I'm so glad that you brought this subject up.

     I too am having my first colonoscopy Sept 21st! I am scared to death. Everyone I talked to that has had it done says the worst part is the day before, but I just am so sick of all these doctor appointments. I saw the gastro dr because of my high liver enzymes. I had an ultrasound that found nothing, and a CAT scan that showed fatty liver. I'm 45 (46 in Dec) and he talked me into the colonoscopy.My grandfather died of colon cancer, and my Mom has had polyps removed a few times. He also told me to not drink alcohol anymore because that too will aggravate my liver (I almost said, "I'm Irish, I must drink!"). Not that I drank that much to begin with. Only on the weekends, and maybe a couple each day. He has me taking 400 units of vitamin E a day and  he also wants to do a biopsy of my liver in 3 months if my count doesn't go down (I'm really hesitant about that one. My primary said most overweight women have fatty livers!)

    I'm telling you, if I'm not asleep when I go in that room for the procedure, I'm hopping off the table and going home!

    If I do make it through the procedure and they find anything, you can be sure I'll be drinking heavily!

    I'll let you know how I make out through all this CRAP (no pun inteaded!)!

    Rose, chocolate milk?  That's nothing.  My dh wanted to go for breakfast after my procedure was done.  We had gone out for his and he did fine (I guess).  Anyway, I was fine until a couple of hours later.  Then I "lost" all of it.  I wasn't too upset because I enjoyed the food from Ihop then lost all the calories.Cool

    Lynne---I had my first colonoscopy 3 years ago--it really was no big deal. Just followed a clear liquid diet the day before, started drinking the "stuff", was in the bathroom going within an hour.  My daughter put the little portable TV in there so I'd have something to do!!!!!  Went in the next am, had conscious sedation, don't remember even turning on my side.  Next thing I knew, the doctor was saying it was fine, just one small polyp that they removed and was benign.  Husband drove me home and I just napped a little that afternoon.  Doctor said it was a good thing I came in with a strong family history of colon cancer (grandmother died of it, mom has had it twice in last 5 years).  Good for you for being proactive!  You'll do fine,

    Glad your colonoscopy is over and that you had such a good result Marin.

    Since my dx & left mastectomy this year I think I have developed a mild case of 'carcinophobia' (is there such a word?). A few weeks ago I had a squamous cell carcinoma removed - clean margins thankfully. Now I am concerned about another mole on my back which my physiotherapist told me looks suspicious - seeing dr about that tomorrow. I am booked in to have a colonoscopy on Sept 24 and intend to have a CA125 bloodtest for ovarian cancer next week. Then it will be just about time for my first mammo since dx in Feb - think I might have it before Christmas for a bit of peace of mind.

    My prep for the colonoscopy starts 2 days before with a bland diet of white bread, white pasta and no fruit or veg (that will be hard!). Then, the day before I have to take 'Picoprep'. I don't have to have a huge amount of liquid. 

    I hope I am not awake for the procedure or if I am, I would like to be as high as a kite on the drugs!

    Thanks everyone for the hints and suggestions for this procedure.

    I would like to assure all of you who are about to have a colonoscopy that the anesthesia is quite delightful. I had the same conscious sedation for my lumpectomy and my breast surgeon called them 'happy drugs.' They totally were! Cool
