My article is out!

Y'all might recall the moderator's post about 6 months ago asking for AFAA-certified fitness professionals for an article to be published in American Fitness magazine for their Sept/Oct BC awareness issue. And I know I posted later that I was selected to be the featured personal trainer/fitness instructor and how I was angsting about how un-photogenic I am. ANYWAY, the issue is finally out and my article is the final page of the magazine. Unfortunately, the only ones who get it are those with subscriptions, mostly members of AFAA. So if any of you belongs to a gym or has a personal trainer, you might ask her/him if they get the magazine and if you can see it. The article is actually a bit lame and makes me sound like a freaking superwoman, but if it inspires anyone who has just been dx'd and thinks they'll have to give up everything, then I guess it's worth it. Oh, and the picture they used was of me and my skating partner posing at a Christmas skating exhibition...before cancer & chemo so I'm super skinny and have dark brown hair....very freaky! Oh well...just thought I would share!

Congratulations, Marin! Maybe the journal has a web presence where they have it posted? We'd all love to see it if possible but don't run afoul of the copyright cops. Maybe you can get permission to reprint it here if it's not available online.

    Wow, a star is born.

Well thanks so much for your enthusiasm you guys! I'm the most extremely technologically-challenged person you've ever known and also don't have access to a scanner. If someone who does have one wants to go to thet trouble of getting it up here, please PM me with your address and I'll snail mail it to you (it's just one page, pic included). American Fitness does have a website, but the only articles available are the cover features (this issue is Carrie Ann Inaba), not the 'Member Spotlight.' Sigh...

Marin, I was just thinking about you a couple of days ago. I was wondering what happened to your article. I was thinking about the pics you posted. You didn't post the skating one.

Congrats! I too want to see your "creepy" skating picture. I used to roller skate as a teenager and was pretty good. However, nothing like you did. I was checking out the boys. Met my DH at the rink. LOL

I never posted the skating pic because I only had a paper copy and no scanner. It was only sent to the magazine because the editor seemed pretty fascinated with my being a figure skater and asked for a skating picture. That was the only decent one I had. I'm wearing my daughter's long program dress that we had designed for her and my partner is wearing a medieval costume that had been worn by our coach when he skated with Disney. We're posed in our opening skating pose and I've got the snottiest look on my face! Ughhh! Oh well....

Marin, I'd LOVE to see that "snottiest" look on your face. LOL

I admire anyone who can really skate. That's one thing I like watching during the olympics. I was always a "wannabe."

A lovely, generous woman has offered to scan in the article and try to post it so I'm mailing it out to her tomorrow. Thanks livesstrong!!!!!

And, Shirley, if you REALLY like to watch figure skating, here is the upcoming schedule of televised events. Not the Olympics, but the Grand Prix events, beginning with Skate America, and Nationals (in January) are key competitions for Olympic hopefuls!

    http://heatherw.com/mk/sch.htm - ENJOY!

Thanks, y'all. I'm mailing it today. And don't worry, Valerie...no one could screw it up more than I could. It took me over a year to post my avatar and the intended magazine pics here ...and that was after alot of help!

And Shirlann....I wouldn't know my neighbors if I fell over them!

Marin, thanks for the schedule. I put it in my "favorites." Now if only I remember to go back and look at the schedule. Hmmm...perhaps I should print it and tape it to my TV.

Skating is such a beautiful sport. I remember watching Dorothy Hammil (sp). All the girls had to have her haircut. My three daughters who were quite young at that time had Dorothy's haircut. However, somehow it didn't look exacly like hers. Musta been the beautician. That makes me remember something...they're beautician died of bc. That happened several years ago. Oh, geez, I haven't thought about that for some time.
