How long for eyelashes to grow back?!

Just this week, 24 days after my last taxol, my eyelashes fell out. And my eyebrows are going as well! Eeks. I thought I was going to get away home free, but no.

Did you lose your eyelashes during chemo? If so, at what point during the process? And how long did your eyelashes take to grow back?

Same questions for eyebrows.

Thanks for your help! I can get through anything I just need to know what to expect

The funny thing is that my bald head is stubbly, but maybe that growth occurred because of the steroids? (I read somewhere that dexamethazone can help w/ hair growth).

Amya, I didn't take the poll since none of the responses were appropriate to my experience. I can tell you, though, that my e/e fell out about five weeks post treatment (A/C only) and that they started growing back immediately. It took about three weeks before they looked pretty normal but then kept growing and my lashes got to be just as long and full as they were pre-chemo.

So, chin up, they'll be back very soon!

My eyelashed fell out 6 weeks after I finished my chemo. once they started growing back it took about 6-8 weeks for them to reach full length. They fell out again 2 months later and started growing back right away, again it took 6 -8 weeks. My lower left lashes just fell out again 4 month later but are growing back again. I didn't mind losing the lower ones so much (eye liner maskes that), but losing the upper ones twice was a real bummer. Headcovers.com has some real natural looking false eyelashes that are priced right and easy to apply (after a few trys). They got me thru the rough times. The good news is that they do come back and thicker than before!

The first time I was dx with bc I, too, lost my eyelashes a month or so after my last tx - and then again, and again! On one thread a while ago someone explained that the reason your eyelashes fall out more than one time has to do with the life cycle of the eyelash. Under normal circumstances our eyelashes fall out at different times and then regrow and but the others mask that they are gone. When we lose our lashes all at once, all the lashes are on the same cycle for awhile, so all drop at the same time. It may take a few cycles to get them to not all drop at the same time. Hope this helps explain it! Jacque

A lot of chemotherapy patients complain that their eyelashes go through the process of loss and regrowth in repetitive cycles during the course of their chemo treatment.... A person going through chemo therapy usually suffer from falling out of hair...A lot of people recommend using false eyelashes in these situations...Another solution will be to eat right food that is needed by your body to have healthy eyelashes... Conditioning your eyelashes may also alleviate this problem since it re hydrates your dry and brittle eyelashes.
