Oily Skin Even Oiler Now

I am 11 months into Arimidex and although everything else dried up, my skin (face, back and chest) are oiler than ever. I'm breaking out like a teenager. By the time I get to mascara and lipstick, my face is like an oil slick. My ovaries are gone, I've been through chemo and now am on Arimidex. I was actually looking forward to dry skin. Don't tell me I am fortunate because I won't get any wrinkles. I would gladly endure crows feet to get rid of the pimples right now. Have any of you had this problem?

Not had it lately, but when I did, I used noxema.

Oily skin and Arimidex have nothing in common. Overactive oil glands is what you have.

    pimple killer hints:

Noxema is good for face wash and a little dab here and there on blemishes.

Cold packs will reduce the swelling of pimples. Use tea bags -- get a green tea bag very wet - squish water through the leaves inside to soak - and lay on blemish - for 20 minutes or more - too much is not possible. Can cut bag in half to use on more then one spot and bags are reusuable a couple of rounds.

Liquid Tea Tree oil is also good for keeping blemishes at bay. Just dab on blemish.

(but I have read that the tea tree oil soap gives young boys 'breasts'. So it has an effect of estrogen - will that matter when used on face????? don't know????)

This is advice from my 17 yr old niece who is telling me what to type!!! (I added the parenthesis comments and she found it very funny -- man breasts!!)

I feel for you Deb. I had cystic Acne all my life---
Thought I'd go to my grave with it.

57 years old with cystic acne---I even had 2 courses of Accutane (to which I attribute my osteopenia and the severity of several fractures) And I've spent most of my adult life on Tetracycline, Minocin, and many others.

Injections of Kenalog---need I say more.

Whats more; heaven forfend I pull a stray hair from anywhere
on my chin or an eruption in that spot would arise overnight!

I had lovely skin on chemo--best in my life.

Then I went on Femara and more meds-- My skin has been erupting ever since. Naturally I blamed Femara but recently I had to discontinue Effexor because of elevated LFT's. Shortly after my skin cleared up 100%----I still can't believe it! I have beautiful skin again.

Medications sometimes have unforeseen consequences and symptoms that you would never connect together. Just because it may be a rare side effect doesn't mean it can't happen to you.----I've learned that the hard way quite a few times.

Medication is a possibility but then you don't say your age
and you can get a second bout of acne in your thirty even into peri-menopause. Sometimes there is an answer out there. Its just frustrating trying to find what is setting it off. For me-- what made things way worse was dairy--
specifically cheese----a slice of cheese and I could literally feel my face start to itch and withing a day I'd erupt.

I hope you can find the relief I've gotten. By the way, I did find something that kept the breakouts to the minimum even on the Effexor.

It's called St Ives Apricot Scrub and is available at any
pharmacy in the aisles with the body washes.---good stuff
but you may need a light moisturizer like cetaphil or complex 15 to use in conjunction.

    Hello dst,

I also am having oily skin after almost one and a half years on Arimidex.  Yes, I'm also dry all over, and am finding that especially in the winter, my facial skin is not moist, but oily.  I've always had oily skin except when I went on estrogen (estrace,) then I finally had good skin.  Then I had breast cancer and now, with the medication, my estrogen level should be zilch.

I'm also getting quite a few more of those beard-like hairs under my chin.  I figure it must be the testosterone is high compared to the zero estrogen level.

Anyway, I have to use a scrub cream, I use an ultra-Oxyscrub that has salicylic acid and I apply it with a gentle Buf Puff.  My skin becomes rough even after one day, but this routine really helps.  I also use an astringent with salicylic acid in  the morning before make-up.

I ran out of Retin-A cream...but that really works better than everything else, and you have to be careful about buffing you skin while you use the cream.  I think the point is clearing off the dead skin cells that form on the skin so that oil and dirt doesn't become trapped.

Anyway, I totally understand your problem and hope this helps.

Having oily skin is not something anyone favours but there are several home remedies available that can help regulate the oil secretion and maintain a balance. Given that you are tired of dealing with the excess oil, opting for these remedies can help.
