Help! What to wear?

Options
Hi ladies!

My 50th birthday bash is coming up and I want to show off the awesome butterfly tattoo I just got on my left shoulder/back area .
I would love to buy a sparkly halter type top....But then.. how do I hold up the prosthetics? My fitter won't fit me for the "stick on" boobs untill my surgery is at least a year behind me.
Are there any strapless bras out there? No matter how hard I google...I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Thank you for all of your help!

    Hi MzzHope,
First, happy 50! By coincidence, I was shopping today for an evening gown to wear to a fundraising ball and was having a helluva time finding anything that looked good and had a high enough neckline to hide the "dip" (chasm) from my mastectomy. But I was able to track down a strapless mastectomy bra. Here's the website:

They do have special recommendations for sizing, but it looks like it should work.
Good luck and enjoy your special day.

    Barbara,
You should put ALL of these shopping links on your wonderful website so they don't get lost.

    Hope,
I am planning to put links to a number of good online sites that sell post-mastectomy products. I'll try to choose the ones that a lot of women seem to like, and also those that are easy to navigate, and that offer a good selection of products (or that offer products that are otherwise hard to get).

I ordered the smallest size of that strapless mast. bra. It runs extremely big! Way too big for me (34 A in most mast. bras).

I do have another idea. Anita makes a mast. bra with clear bra straps. It is very comfortable and has regualar straps that come with it. Comes in white or black. I don't have the number handy but that may work for you also.

How long has it been since your surgery? I had "stick-ons" after surgery, but only wore them that way for special ocasions or trips during the first year. The fitter should let to get them. You will see for yourself that they are not the most comfortable in the first year, but they are most certainly tolerable for special occasions. You should have access to whatever products would make you feel good about yourself. Our self-esteem really needs that in the first year.

    Thanks Amy & ladies!

I'll check out the Anita website,Carol. Thanks for the advice.

And ddd.. my surgery was at the end of Feb. And you are right.. I should be able to get those stick on boobs !The fitter said that in order for them to fit properly my chest wall had to be completly healed.Maybe there is more than one type?

    Barbara,
Thanks agin for creating that website. It is going to be an amazing resouce for all of us.

How about asking your fitter if she has a loaner pair of stick-ons that you could use just for the night??

    Hi Lini,
That's a great idea! Rent-a-set! Where else in the world can you come for advice like this? I love this site and all the support here.
Seriously, though.. I have an appt w/my onc tomorrow and the fitter is in the same building.. so I'll go and see her.
    Thx again!
    You all rock.

I have that ABC T-shirt bra and I really like it.

If you have a halter dress then your chest is covered up with the ties that come up and around your neck. Have you tried a regular strapless bra? A lot of those are really stiff, maybe it would hold it's shape without a prosthesis.

Also needed a strapless bra to wear with an evening gown for a formal occassion. I went to Nordstroms in tears with dress in hand. The woman who does the prosthesis fitting spent a while with me and found a beautiful strapless bra that worked and they put the pockets in it for me for free. I have worn the bra many times in the summer and it has solved so many problems with summer shirts and dresses. As it is getting a little less supportive-I have used it so much- I started putting my lighter foam forms in it and it is much cooler in the hot weather.

I know this isnt going to help you, but you are very fortunate to want and be able to go out "fancyfied" to get all dressed up, im a bit jelous.  Im flat as a pancake and I have learned to deal with it when I do get to go somewhere, like the scrapbook store or see mom in the resthome, or shopping on a good day, but since I dont have to get dressed up get away, I wear Tshirts and jeans or shorts, with tanks with a tank underneath if I go somewhere as with only one, you could see my belly button when I bend over LOL..

Do please count your blessings and when you go out and have that special dance, have one for me. Smile

    lots of hugs

    Thanks ladies!

I am going to try all of your suggestions. This dressing up thing is a work in progress. I was in serious need of the show "What Not to Wear" before cancer...now I am pretty much a mess. lol!

Ter..  I am getting all gussied up because I do feel blessed to be turning 50! And if the hair isn't all the way back on my head for the party.. Then I intend to stick a tiara on it.

I'll dance and toast to all of us.Smile

    Thanks again ladies.

    You are all the best!
