Hair color brand question

I have a question about hair color brands. I usually use Herbal Essences because I like the way the color keeps and it does not have that strong amonia smell. When I went to the store tonight they really did not have a color I wanted in the Herbal Essences brand.

I looked for another brand with permanent color and amonia free and I found Colorsilk by Revlon. I guess I am a bit concerned because it only cost me $4.00 when all the other brands were at least $10.00.

Under normal circumstances when I had normal hair I would not worry, but since my hair is still young, 10 months old, I am a bit worried that it could damage my baby hair or make it (yikes) fall out.

I am looking for any advice or experience with this brand.

Thanks

I don't know for sure, Newter, but it seems to me that our new hair is actually stronger than the old stuff. I recall pulling on it alot just to make sure it was really coming out of my formerly-bald head and it's in there pretty tightly. Maybe the Colorsilk is cheaper because it's lighter/less permanent and alot of people want to cover their greys and stuff. If you're really scared, try it on a small piece somewhere where it'll look cool & funky being different and see how it comes out there..?

    Marin,

I am laughing because I do the same thing. I am constantly pulling my hair to make sure NOTHING is coming out. I really appreciate you always helping me with my hair issues.

I think I will be brave and color my hair tonight and cross my fingers.

I am coloring my hair right now and I can tell you that the conditioner that they package is only enough for one application. Some of the others give a lot more conditioner to use weekly and last until you need to color again. I wonder if they sell that conditioner because it is usually awesome stuff. Maybe that is why it is so much cheaper. Hopefully that is the ONLY reason.

Im reading this thread with lots of anxiety!! I can't wait to color my hair, mine is coming back in about the color of your precious kitty Newter! I just finished chemo in May and talking about unruly! Its growing in a circle pattern and parts of it appear to be glued to my head and other parts are sticking straight up, NOT a pretty sight. But its hair and it feel great to gripe about it!!

    HI,

I'm being really feeble about colouring my hair. My hair is so fine that I don't really know what to use and what colour to use knowing that it is so baby fine.

lindaDK, ROFL, my hair is coming in just like that. Like a big swirl from the left/side/back and then a bunch of little swirls up top. Gee, it's gorgeous, isn't it? LOL Mine started growing around the end of June. Can't wait to see what it's like in another month or so. Arrgghhhhh. Hey, anyway, it's hair. A home for the fleas, a hive for the buzzin' bees.......THere ain't no words for the beauty, the spendor, the wonder of my HAIR.

Am coloring my hair this morning and will report back on results! Wish me luck.

Tina LOL,,, crossing my fingers and toes you get good results. Report back on what you used and how it looks! Appears we're on the same hair schedule.

Just want to reassure you ladies with the swirl look that it does even out....and pretty soon too. The initial look will bear little resemblance to what your hair will look like in 6 months or so, although I did have a cowlick right where the center of my original swirl was. It's kinda cute actually...

I love these hair threads! Getting our hair back is one of the hopeful things that we can definitely count on! Load up on the styling products, y'all!

Okay, it is 24 hours later after using the cheap questionable brand and I am happy to say my hair is all still on my head. I have dark brown hair and my last coloring was about 2 - 3 months ago. Because my hair is only about 4 - 5 inches, my hair was half dark brown and half whatever brown I had used last time.

I bought light brown this time but my hair did not really lighten. At least now all 4 to 5 inches are the same shade.

When my hair was coming back and enough to color, I first went to my old stylist... it tunrned orange. She was able to apply some toners to fix it. Then after awhile since it was so short I bought that first one (blue box 6.99) for roots only and it was enough to cover the gray and most of my hair. Since I just got it all cur off again I bought a new roots only one from Clairol, I think (red box 3.99) and I just do touch-ups at home, as I need them every few weeks. When it comes time highlights, I'll go back to my stylist. These do not come with conditioners, I just use my own. Inexpensive and not alot of wasted product.
    Good Luck!
