OK you guys, like I hoped and evryone prayed, Elvis has left the building, today at 4 PM at the ps office. I need to wear a dry dressing and can get out of that horrid surgical bra. I hate the velcro! I can wear my "comfy" bras. My best friend Terri got them for me from the Dr. Leaonard's catalogue and they have no real cup size just strecth to fit. They have front hooks and eyes and measure the size around. I saw them online and are about $7 I think. It is amazing how much less pain Ihave once the implant was removed. I think it was pretty sore because of the infection.
I had a nap earlier so now I am not tired. Need to take my antibiotic and get better. Then on to the next step. Getting my hair cut and colored tomorrow and can't wait to feel "human" again.
See you guys over the weekend maybe? I will try to rest as much as possible but I am trying to get my new business running so I have to put out flyers and what have you. PM or email me and I will regail you with details.
P.S. hey Jule, have not IM'd for a while! Hugs to you kiddo! -
Hi everyone ...
I have just finished another week of run, run, run....had two out of town meetings this week, of course they were in opposite directions so I couldnt even stay over to attend them....had meetings with contractors at work for a new project we are starting so it has been a really LONG week for me....but lots of good things happening so I guess it is worth it....
Im just getting ready to go out for a couple of drinks this evening with a girl friend so cant be here long...need to finish getting ready, but wanted to say hi to everyone and read how you all are doing...
My positives for this week:
My life really is getting back to normal, although I dont remember being quiet this busy with life in general 9 months ago....I was thinking about it the other night and am wondering if maybe Im pushing to get things done and doing things that Ive wanted to do because of the bc dx....
I think the biggest positive for me this week has been coming here tonight and reading that most everyone has had a stable week with no surprises and everyone seems to be doing well...:)
Im worried about Lori, but I dont have her personal info to be able to contact her so am hoping she will get ahold of Sheila soon or post so that we know she is ok...
Beth, sorry to hear about your troubles....and YES, long time no talk ...I havent been on IM too much in the evenings as Ive been having issues with extreme fatigue....some nights I sleep like a log, then other nights Im awake more than I sleep....
I will try to post more tomarrow...but need to spend sometime with my roses as the heat here has been really hard on them and I havent had time to do much more than water them...
Hugs to all of you
Jule -
Lori -- You're still in my prayers
Beth -- Great news about Elvis leaving the building, that's got to feel so much better
Biondi -- oh, the raw food sounds great, especially since it's been so hot. Except for Sheila's homemade marinara sauce, nothing besides salad really appeals to me at the moment.
Jule -- Hope you enjoyed your evening with your girlfriend!
My positive: The dear friend I've mentioned sent me a box containing 10 mini tubs of Play Doh with a note to make a "cancer monster" from them every day, then smash it, destroy it and "throw it away with the dog poop" You have no idea how much it made me laugh and just how satisfying it is to kick, stomp and run over those "monsters"

Wow, Sharon! What an inventive gift. Is there a "best gift" thread here where you can post about it. I know I've read through the "worst thing said to you" and "best thing said" threads a few times. Enjoy stomping your "monsters." If you make small monsters the Play Doh will last a long time. -
FOR ONEFEATHER::
HERE IS A NICE RAW SPAGHETTI RECIPE. I DID BUY THE "SPIROLLI: AND USED VEGGIES, YELLOW SQUASH AND ZUCCHINI. IT LOOKED LIKE ANGEL HAIR PASTA, FUN, HEALTHY, AND TASTED GOOD, WITH SOME FRESH TOMATO SAUCE I WIPPED UP. MAYBE THIS WILL TASTE GOOD TO YOU..IF YOUR BUDS ARE A BIT OFF.
Raw Spaghetti
From the Radstrom family's recipes
This is a great spaghetti substitute. You can use many kinds of vegetables for this. Some of our favorites are raw: squashes, zucchini or carrot. Also try a mix of several kinds of veggie for even more flavor!
Shred or use a vegetable slicer to create thin, noodle-like stands of whichever vegetables you like. A great device for raw spaghetti is the Spirooli* - it makes long, round strands of vegetable which are exactly like pasta, and is very fast! (If you don't have a Spirooli, use a grater and make longer strokes, or use a potato peeler, or slice the vegetables by hand.)
Top your raw spaghetti with crushed or chopped tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and Celtic sea salt. You can also add other vegetables such as chopped onion or mushroom. Fresh herbs like cilantro and oregano are great, too! -
Biondi -- Thank you so much! Sounds wonderful. I love garlic and cilantro and my struggling tomato plant just gave me a couple of fresh tomatoes so I think I know what I want to try next

the area I live in is not considered a 'big city' but the cancer coordinator nurse loves yoga and saw a report on how yoga helps cancer patients do better. She went to the cancer center board and requested money for her to take a class on teaching restorative yoga and offering it to the cancer patients. I think she has been teaching it about 2 years. At our class last week there were 7 ladies and one gentleman.
Unfortunately I will have to miss it this week, my dear husband scheduled a contractor to come in Tuesday at the time the class starts to check out our bathroom to renovate it. My DH weighs about 380 and the fiberglass tub just could not stand up to the pressure. There is a 6 inch crack along the side of the tub and the duct-tape is not holding up well. I am replacing it with an enameled steel tub unit.
Great to see all the positives, Sheila -
Hey its Friday again!!!!!!
Hope all is well with everyone and you all have had a very positive week...
My week consisted of course of lots of work....its been crazy here with financial meetings and such....took bids on a project near our office a few weeks ago and construction has started on that so dealing with things to do with that and just plain busy.
All in all, it has been a good week...I should say up until this morning anyway...
My daughters SIL went into labor early yesterday morning and the last time I talked to my daughter about 9:30 last night Jessie was doing ok and they were close to having a baby ....
My daughter called me a work a few mintues ago to tell me the baby was a 10 lb 2 oz....boy, mom is fine but they air lifted the baby to a childrens hospital in Seattle about an hour ag...there is something wrong with the babies heart and they dont know if surgery will fix it .....what an awful way to end a week....wont know more until later this afternoon, but me heart is breaking for these young parents....dad was allowed to go in the helicopter with the baby but mom is still at the original hospital and wont be released until later today....
Please send you prayers and thoughts to them as Im afraid they are going to need as many as we can muster .....
Sorry to be such a downer on our Positive Friday but I know you all will have many positives to help bring me back up again....
Hugs
Jule -
Jule, prayers are winging their way already for this fine boy and his parents.
My positive this week is that when I saw my onc she declared me NED. Today I am jumping for joy.
I have also arranged for House Angels to come in and blast my house as I have been so fatigued these past months that I have got by on the least housework I could get away with!!
My poor DH has also struggled - he has a heart problem, but also has a problem with a dirty house, it really depresses him. It depresses me too, but I am usually blithe about it because I can clean it. Not nowadays - so if the Angels blast it for me I can then maintain it steadily. It's only because we have been so ill that it's got that way - so yippee for a clean house soon.
And tomorrow I go to pick up my family portrait that cost me the earth but it so much a capture the moment thing that I couldn't resist it. A recovery prezzie to myself LOL
I hope all you ladies have a wonderful weekend. It's our late summer bank holiday this weekend, and after a summer full of rain and floods we are promised sunshine. Must be something symbolic in that.
Love and hugs everyone. -
Hello Ladies. glad to see most of us are doing well.
As some of you know I had my yearly mammo a few weeks ago and they found some calcifications. So off to the bs I go this past Monday and you guessed it, she scheduled me for a biopsy. She told me she didn't think it was anything to worry about but I'm sure you ladies would agree - I am still a bit concerned. Its scheduled of all days - 9/11. So now I wait!!
Jule- prayers are going out for that poor couple. Sometimes you have to just wonder why, you know what I mean? Sigh.
Valerie - I said it on the other thread and I'll say it hear- CONGRATS on NED!!! Way to go!! Hope you and your DH enjoy your good health and clean house!!
My positives for the week are:
I got my hair cut for the fisrt time since treatment ended!! It looks SO much better. I don't look like Bozo anymore.
I'm doing the Lance Armstrong Walk this weekend in Philly. I signed up ages ago and can't wait to do it. All total DH & I raised $650.00 to fight this horrible disease.
Have a geat weekend everyone,
Valerie -
Hi ya'll
Jule - my prayers are going out for your family and the baby.
Valerie - hope you enjoy your clean house.
other Valerie - glad your hair is long enough to cut and congrat on doing the lance armstrong walk.
My positives for the week:
My husband arranged for a contractor to come and give estimate to replace fiberglass bathtub (big crack covered with duct tape) with an enameled steel tub. Reason for crack, Husband is 6ft tall and weighs around 390, tub cracked several years ago but he was not working when tub broke. He has been working for the trucking co for 2 years and we finally got bills caught up and can afford to fix it.
I got the team registration forms for the local Foothills Race for the Cure set for October 20. I have been organizing a small team for the past 6 yrs, since my mom's dx. We are planning our t-shirt design. Out of the last 5 years we have won some type of prize 4 of the 5 years (best t-shirt, most team spirit, creative). Last year one of the schools brought their running club and you can't out do a bunch of 5-6 graders when it comes to spirit.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and pray for rain in the Carolinas (severe drought)
Sheila -
Hi Everyone!
Jule, prayers for the baby and the family. That sure was a big baby! Maybe that will help his survival chances.
Valerie S, glad to hear you're dancing with NED! Woooohooo!!
livestrong, I'll be praying about your biopsy. Seems like a long time to wait to get it! Arrgg.. the horrible waiting. Hopefully it's nothing!!
Sheila, so glad you're getting the tub fixed. My tub looks terrible. In fact, my bathroom needs to be remodeled. I wish it was not so far down on my list.
My positive: I'm done with regular rads and only have 7 boosts to go! I'm also going back to work 9/3! Yay!
Miss S -
Hello everyone.
Jule - I hope that new baby will be well and strong soon. Wow! At 10 pounds 2 ounces he sure is a big boy. I hope his mom recovers from the birth quickly, too. My nephew's wife had a 9 pound girl in Feb and it took her a while to heal up and feel better.
Sheila - I hope you and the hubby enjoy the new tub.
Valerie S - Enjoy your dance with NED in your clean house.
Valerie (livestrong) - Wow! A hair cut. I can't imagine that, yet. I hope the walk turns out well.
My positives this week are:
1. I finished another week of radiation. I started boosts on Tuesday, and now I have 6 more to go. My collar bone seems to be healing a little bit, already.
2. My eyebrows and eyelashes are really filling in, and my hair is almost a half inch long. There are even a few darker hairs starting to show up, too. I can hardly wait for full coverage.
3. Yesterday my hubby had a morning appointment, and after lunch we had about an hour to kill before my rads appointment so we stopped at a center with several thrift and dollar stores. We took our time to really look around the first thrift store and found a dress, a swimsuit for me, and 2 angels. I was on the the lookout for a small angel to give the rads techs when I finish treatment, and the hubby also found a larger lead crystal one for my collection at home. -
Well, this week kind of ended on several bad notes for me, but our prayers have paid off ....
I have three of the most AMAZING positives a girl can ask for to close this week
1)The baby is doing fine...he was born with the valves in his heart only circulating the blood thru the heart muscle and not the rest of the body....they put a stint in and all is well..he will have to have more surgeries in a few weeks but he is a strong boy and they dont forsee any further problems for him ....
2) On the 13th of this month a friend had a massive heart attack, they did a 3-way bypass and while she was on the op table she had another severe attack and several smaller ones that ended her up on life support....last weekend they had told everyone that they needed to visit her because they were recommending removing life support ....When her sons went to visit her to say their goodbyes she opened her eyes for the first time since surgery....they decided to leave the life support for a few more days and today, she is fully awake, aware and talking to everyone......truely a blessing and extremely AMAZING....
3)...I am planning a trip to the Oregon coast mid-September and one of my sisters from another thread here lives 12 miles away from where Im going....we are making plans to meet and walk the beach together .....when I received her pm this morning telling me that she is so close and that we can share sometime it made my excitement for this trip even more:).....we have grown close via this web site and I cant believe Im really going to meet her so soon as those of us on that thread have been arranging a get together for next year in NYC.....
Im still in awe of how sad I felt yesterday with all these things going on around me then to find today with so many blessings:) and then to have all you here send your thoughts and prayers....I know they help tremendously and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart..
Hugs to all of you
Jule -
Jule, that is wonderful news!! What miracles and blessings! My positive for the week is I am 1/2 way through chemo and done with AC! I'm starting taxol and herceptin in 3 wks and am hoping for less SE's.
Cyndi -
Thanks everyone for good wishes for my clean house. It will make me feel so much better.
Jule, such wonderful news on the baby It sounds like his parents will have some challenges ahead, but nothing all this little family can't cope with, I'm sure.
Just a little sleepless, it's 5.42 here in the UK - do I sound like a morning DJ or what? - and I have been on these boards for the past couple of hours, and researching some issues I have with the onc. He tells me that there is no difference between MRI and Mammo for postmenopausal women with dense breasts. The research supports this, so I suppose I have to rely on self examination to alert me if I have a recurrence.
See how this thing goes - declared NED and within a few days am checking to see how I can stop a recurrence.
Memo to self : go enjoy the sunshine and the birdsong.
Big hugs, everyone. -
Ladies I was snooping around on the July radiation thread and discovered that Miss S is having some issues, so I thought I would let you know here so that we can be more aware of whats going on for her as she doesnt post any of this stuff here ....
Please lend her your support, prayers and thoughts...
Hugs
Jule -
Hi Guys and Jule ,
Jule.... thanks for asking for prayer for me. I don't post my problems here because this is the Positive Girls Club!! I don't want to bring everyone down with my whining!
But here goes: My ejection fraction has plummeted to 36% and I was taken off Herceptin. The cardiologist said I am off permanantly. Of course, since Herceptin is the miracle drug for us HER2+++ gals, this was very upsetting news. It's not fun knowing my heart is in such bad shape, either.
Add to that: I am going back to work Monday after being out of work almost ALL year. My first week back I have to take two afternoons off for a stress test. Just lovely.
I am really a very happy girl and I hate bringing gloom and doom to this happy thread.
Thanks for caring about me, Jule. It means so much to me.
I hope everyone has a great rest of the week.
Miss S -
Miss S...
Stop that!!!!! we are all happy here and there is only doom and gloom if we allow it.....I dont know about the others on this thread but I know I have posted my troubles and everyone here has always been there to pick me up......If we were all just here for the happy stuff....NONE of us would be here at all....and we would never have met each other....so theres my #1 postive for this week:)....we are all here and we all care about each other ....
Please keep us posted on how things are going for you.....DONT MAKE ME COME LOOKIN FOR YA!!!!!
Love ya all
Jule -
Hi everyone,
I am still on my wait prior to exchange surgery. My positive for the week is we got showers for the past two afternoons, and calling for more this weekend. We are 17 inches down and in a severe drought, everyone is on water restrictions. I also did get report from GYN on my pap, and it was normal. I went to my gp last Saturday for sinus infection and taught the nurse about lymphedmema risks, no BP or needle sticks in either arm.
I have not heard from Lori about meeting, she has not answered my PM.
Sheila -
Hi All,
Miss S, I hope things get better once you're finished with the boosts. My doc gave me a prescription for Silvadene cream that I could use for areas that are out of the radiation field (my underarm and collar bone) and it is doing wonders. After the first couple of days, my collar bone was back to almost a normal color and most of that gunky skin slough was dried up and gone. After my last boost on Tuesday, I can use it on the boost area, too.
That brings me to my positives for the week.
1. Only 1 more boost and I'm finished with Rads. I can hardly wait. Sorry for repeating myself, but I'm ready to get my afternoons back.
2. My hubby got me a dozen roses on Saturday. He went out to pick up a book he wanted and stopped by the supermarket to get a couple of things we forgot on Friday. He was planning to wait until Tuesday, but couldn't pass them up when he was there. A kind lady customer helped him pick a good bunch with a pretty variegated pink color. I should send out shopping alone more often.
3. My hair is filling in more and more everyday. I'll be up to a crew cut soon. Each time I look in the mirror I can see more dark hair so I wont be all gray as I once feared.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day, however you celebrate, and a great week. -
Well, here we are again at almost Friday
...
Im hoping this finds everyone well and happy....things have been pretty quiet on this thread and Im hoping that means all of you have moved on in good ways....
My positive for this week:
Its one more week closer to my vacation to the Oregon coast and my afternoon with a friend from here on this board
....
Hope to see tons of posts from all of you this week!!!!!!
Hugs, Jule
-
Just checking in. A few more hours til Friday!
I have had a good week. Jeff cought a cold, so I hope I don't get it. I am a big believer in Zicam, and I have him using it.
My positive is that I registered for the Komen Walk for the Cure in Miami on October 20. I am psyched. I set a goal to raise $500 and I am pretty sure I will.
I am walking as a survivor, Jeff as a supporter. I put a link on another bulletin board I post on ( not BC related) and some folks have donated. One good friend donated $50.
Let's keep our positive thread going.
Good to see you, Jule.
-
Jule,
A vacation sounds good about now. I finished my last boost on Tuesday. The techs threw confetti over me, and I gave them the little angel I bought a couple of weeks ago. Tuesday we went for a nice lunch at La Madeleine before my last zap. Even with only a couple of days rest and using the Silvadene cream, my skin in the boost area is looking better than it did.
It was great the last two days to have a leasurely lunch without having to rush off to my rads appointment.
I hope everyone had a good week and that the new set up here isn't giving too many problems. I figure that I'll learn how to use it the more often I visit.
Please, check in everyone; we don't want to miss you.
-
Thanks for the well wishes! My skin looks pretty bad still, but feels much better. Our own lovely Jule sent me a special gel pad and it seemed to do the trick. Now I just have to get rid of all the dead skin and let the raw looking stuff get better.
I came home to a beautiful surprise today. One of my chemo angels sent me a gorgeous bouquet of flowers and an inspirational book to celebrate me being done with cancer! It was such an encouragement to feel like she was sharing in my joy! So I have to throw a plug in for the chemoangels! Mine were great and I encourage everyone to get one and to be one when your treatment is finished!
have a great weekend!
Miss S

Hi everyone, hope you are not having trouble figuring out the new boards.
Jule, I wish I could go on vacation but I still have bills to pay.
Trish, praying you don't get the cold. I had a sinus infection last week and it is still hanging on. It looks like you and I will be walking the same day, the NC Foothills RFC is also on Oct 20. This is the 6th year I have been the captain of a team, the first 2 years we were 'Wilma's Team' for my mother, then when others around us were diagnosed we became 'Friends of Survivors.' We are a small team but full of enegery and fun. If you look on the website www.komenncfoothills.org and go to the race for the cure page, the picture at the bottom with the back of a girl's t-shirt, that is my niece in the team shirts that she helped tye-dye. She painted the poem she wrote on the back of her shirt and the photographer had to get a shot of it. I almost got in that photo, I am on the left half in the frame.
Debbie, I will throw confetti also for you finishing treatment.
Miss S, hope you continue to heal from the rads.
Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. Keep praying for rain in the Carolinas sill in drought conditions.

I want to be the first to post this week. WE HAVE RAIN!!!!!
It has not rained any significant amount since July 15 and it has been raining steady since about 4 am. We are approx 17 inches behind in rain since the first of the year. We have been on mandatory water restrictions since the middle of August and there was talk that if we did not get any rain soon, we would be at stage 3 restrictions, no lawn watering (i don't anyway), no car washing even at autobell, paper plates at restaraunts, and such. they are calling for it to continue all day and into the night, it may mess with Football Friday Night but who cares!
I will get off my joy rain rant now.
Hope everyone has positive news today and a joyful weekend.
Sheila
-
Wow, no rain since St Swithin's day, Sheila. Do you know the tradition that surrounds this English saint? He was a very holy bishop of Winchester, and when he was dying he told his people that he wanted to be buried in the churchyard with everyone else or he would send rain every day. Well, of course when he died his congregation made him an opulent tomb within the cathedral. He sent the rain. When they moved his casket to the simple churchyard there was sunshine again.
So if you have rain on St Swithin's day (15 July) you will have 40 days of rain thereafter. If it is fine on that day it will be fine for a further 40 days.
So it sounds as if you got a good St Swithin's day and we got the bad one - floods throughout the country all summer! Although no rain at all is bad.....
My positive for this week is that two of my friends from the other thread are meeting tomorrow and will say prayers for their cybersisters, laugh, love and write our names in the sand for us. How cool is that? I just want to wish them joy in the meeting and we shall be with them in spirit.
I got through this week without SEs from my Herceptin infusion, and the sun is shining for an autumn Saturday with only my DH for company.
I am keeping Lori in my thoughts....
Lots of love everyone and big hugs
Valerie S

Well ladies I know it has been awhile since I last posted. Things have been a little rough for me this past month so I didn't want to bring anyone down. Let me just say I had a double biopsy on my good boob this week and am anxiously waiting for the results. Keep your fingers crossed.
I am glad to see some of you ladies are moving along in your treatment, isn't it nice to see the finish line. Speaking of the finish line, DH & I did the Lance Armstrong Philly Walk a few weeks back. It was fabulous. There were thousands of people there. They raised over $2 million dollars. There were 2 lines at the end, one for supporters and one for survivors. When we walked across they handed us each a yellow rose. That was it, I lost it and started crying tears of joy & tears of sorrow.
Anyway, my positives are that I took a couple days off after the biopsy and did some "clutter cleaning". Mostly closets and some cabinets. I actually throw things out!! I was very proud of myself.
The other is it just one month till my vacation to Key West. I can't wait!!! We have never been there ad who knows once I get there I might never leave!! Captain Tony's look out, here we come!!!
Hope everyone has a great weekend,
Valerie
-
Hello everyone,
Sheila glad the rain came by your way. Isn't always the case that some areas are in drought while others are flooding. Here in Central Texas, I think we have droughts interrupted by floods every year or so. We've had more rain this summer that I ever remember in the 21 years I've been here.
Valerie (livestrong) I hope you get good news about your biopsy soon. A long time water aerobics instructor at my fitness club had her biopsy on Sept 5, and got benign results after a week of waiting.
I'm doing great this week. The skin in the boost radiation area is no longer red and the new skin fills in more everyday. The prickly pains have nearly stopped, too. I can't wait to see what another week of healing will do.
Even with my Chemo and radiation raddled brain, I managed to get some cash back when I went to the supermarket on Wednesday. I remembered to write my check for an amount over my purchases, but I didn't notice that I forgot to get the change until I'd been home almost an hour. Luckily I had my receipt and called the store. They did an audit of the cashier's drawer and it was over for the amount I was missing. My hubby went back up to the store and got our change. I had a feeling I was missing something when we left the store the first time. Other times that I've received cash back, I thought they gave me the change with my receipt. This time I had the receipt the girl gave me but no change. I'm so glad it all turned out OK in the end.
I hope this next week treats everyone well.
Until next time.
