Basic (dumb?) question about silicone breast forms

As I've been researching for my website, I've realized something basic that I may not have understood about silicone breast forms. I'd love your feedback on this: Are silicone breast forms supposed to "hug" your chestwall through your pocketed bra? That is, once in place, should they stay in place and not move around?

As I've been reading company websites, I see that their breast forms are often described using phrases like "comfortably close to the chest wall" or "hugs the chest wall for a secure fit."

All these months, since I was first fitted, when I wear my regular silicone forms (Nearly Me Lite Tapered Triangles in a Size 3), if I feel them adhering to my chest wall, my impulse has been to "unstick" them. Now, I'm suddenly realizing that they're probably meant to cling (I'm not talking about contact forms here, just regular silicone forms). Is that correct?

Today I put my bra on with the forms inside and kind of pressed against the bra to set the forms lightly into place. They feel pretty good! Could it be that I've been clueless all these months?

Another related question: I'd love to know which brands seem to be the most comfortable against the chest during warm weather (again I'm talking regular silicone forms, not climate control versions). I'm just wondering whether the different silicone formulations and the different polyurethane seals result in different comfort levels.

Has anyone tried the new Trulife SILK breast form? I've felt one--it seems exceptionally lifelike. But I haven't tried it on.

Thanks. I'm hoping your answers will benefit other women besides myself. That is, I'm hoping I'm not the only woman who didn't understand how silicone breast forms are meant to work!

Erica - I hope someone more knowledgeable than me replies to your post - I'd love to know the answer too! I've been wearing a silicone breast form for months but have never felt it "hug" my chest.

On the comfort question - I have a swim form that I prefer wearing during hot weather because it's lighter.

Hi Erica,

I don't think my forms stick to me through the pocketed bra. Now I am wondering if they are supposed to?? I don't really think so but I could be wrong. Would a fitter know the answer? The form I wear does not move around, really, but I think that is a function of wearing it in a pocketed bra. I have never tried mine in a non-pocket bra. I think the sensation of the form against my skin would creep me out.

As far as the question about which forms feel better in hotter weather...I have read/heard people complain that their forms are too uncomfortable in hotter weather but I can honestly say that I have never experienced that with mine. Maybe I am just lucky. And, yes, I do get hot-hello-in menopause now- but I have never felt that the forms were uncomfortable.

Carol, I will ask a fitter the next time I have a chance.

Updating my earlier post, I must admit that, although the forms felt pretty good at first, after only a couple of hours they are noticeable and somewhat uncomfortable. My object is to forget I have them on, which I'm able to do with my microfiber-backed Airways, which I can wear in a regular bra. So I guess I'll stick with them for now (and my non-silicone forms, which are comfy, too ).

Mine never hug my chest. In fact, when I bend down, if I am wearing a low enough cut shirt (and it's not LOW, believe me) you can see them sag away from my body and my flat chest shows.

Not that I am a success story since I rarely wear my "falsies," but my fitter told me that all silicon prostheses should fit snugly against your chest wall. If they are at all "loose," they cantilever out and are heavier on your shoulders and less comfortable, according to her.

I don't know how they are to fit....But I do know that after wearing one for 2 years I'm getting reconstruction surgery. I really miss just shopping for regular bras.

And when my weight goes up, and down they never fit right. And they are very hot....

I think they are supposed to fit snugly or the weight will be on the shoulder, vs the chest. The forms with moldable backs are supposed to "mold" into your chest wall - I asked Amoena rep about those: are they to be worn with a pocketed bra or w/o and would they "mold" in the pocketed bra. She said they can be worn with either bra, would mold better in non-pocketed bra but some don't like the feel of it against their skin. My experience over 10 years has been mixed: sometimes I like the feel of the pros against my skin and it kinda suctions there and feels like I have a breast again :-) and can be worn in regular bras. Other times it "hurts" by the afternoon and feels hot and sticky. I notice it feels better at first in the pocket but if I sweat a lot, the pocket of the bra stays wet. But when I can tolerate the pros against skin and it's sweaty, I can go to ladies room, wipe dry and feel better.
