Changing Jobs

Hello Girls,

Have any of you thought of changing jobs now everything is back to normal? I am thinking about it now but worried about this bc records. Can the prospect employer ask the health history? I am afraid no one would hire me if they found out this bc issue.

Any ideas?

Thank you all!

Lily

Lily...To my knowledge, prospective employers can't legally ask you about your medical history, but can ask about your physical capabilities (like sight or ability to lift) if it's pertinent to the job. I've had plenty of interviews and now conduct quite a number of them myself on a regular basis and can't recall medical history ever coming up in any of them. The more important question for us should be will the new health insurance cover follow-ups and anything related to bc, which would be considered a "pre-existing condition"? I'm in the process of going back to school in order to switch careers, but hope to continue working at my current university hospital for a long time but in a completely different capacity, so my medical coverage won't change.

No, they can't ask for your health history. Don't worry about that.

And if you go from group ins to group ins with NO LAPSE they can't not cover a pre-existing condition. Might have to buy cobra for a few months until new policy kicks in.

I was wondering about the health insurance part of changing jobs also. So if you change jobs and don't have a lapse in coverage (go from group plan to group plan) your covered? Thats good to know.

KariLynn I notice your in Kansas, so am I. What part of KS if you don't mind me asking?

Just be sure that you ck into Cobra in between group plans till your new plan kicks in. It's expensive, but well worth the $, even if you have to borrow money to get it.

Pittsburg, but I lived in Olathe for 8 years. Am familiar with the OP area and would live up there but I couldn't get the family to move up - we're all in P-burg!
