Hi Susan,
I'm afraid that I can't help you with the klonopin, but I was having terrible anxiety attacks and I am also on Herceptin. My doctor put me on Xanax, I just take one as needed, not all the time. This drug is truly a life saver for me. This is the only thing that makes the panic go away and makes me feel "normal" again. I was afraid to take it at first too but I got to the point where I couldn't stand what I was going thru and thought, "what the heck"! I thank my doctor all the time for prescribing it for me.
Good luck to you and I hope someone who is on the same drug will post to you.
Hugs

I too take xanax due to anxiety. I did through my entire trt of TCH. I am always leary to start on new meds of any kind especially when I was on TCH. But I took the xanax and pain meds through the entire trt and was fine.
And I don't personally take klonopin but I know one women at my cancer center that does. She's been on it for at least two yrs if I'm correct. She is currently finishing her year of herceptin and so far I know she hasn't had any problems with the two. She asked her onc about it because like you...it worried her. But she's doing great. Hang in there.

I took a low dose of klonopin occasionally for years. It acts much like ativan. It takes a little longer to kick in, but lasts longer. I used to have panic attacks and nightmares a few days before my period. The klonopin would last through the night. Since chemo-pause, I don't have any premenstrual anxiety, so I have no need for it anymore.
I took ativan all through treatment and still might take a half or quarter pill when needed. I guess I feel that there is enough going on in my life that I don't need to be a martyr. No one is going to give me bonus points for toughing it out. If it would help, I'd take it.
I had no trouble stopping klonopin or ativan. I did taper the ativan to smaller doses, just in case. I had a terrible time getting off Effexor that was prescribed for hot flashes. That I had to taper very slowly and took weeks to finally get stopped.

Susan,
I had used ativan throughout chemo tx as needed, it seemed like with herceptin only treatment, my anxiety got worse. So my doc rx'd the klonopin and celexa- the klonopin is the only rx i'm taking at a small dose. It is supposed to be longer acting than ativan and i've noticed that to be true. I haven't had any problems with the klonopin taking a quarter in the am and then again in the late afternoon. Like someone else mentioned above, i just can't see toughing this out anymore, i tried really hard to 'be strong' for over the first 6 months of treatment, but you know, it's a long road and at this point, anything that helps is welcome. By the way, i tend to be very sensitive to meds, but haven't had any probs. with the klonopin Just wanted to add too that it took me about a month to actually start the meds but really, starting them sooner might have helped me out......
good luck as you get through your treatment,
LittleFlower
