Reiki?

Options
Hi everyone-

I've been a member for a while, but haven't posted recently (life has gotten fairly back to normal)

I was wondering if anyone here has had a Reiki treatment/massage? If so, how was it? I'm signed up to get one tommorow through a nearby hospital/cancer center, and was wondering if it's worth it.......

Thanks!

Theresa

Hi Theresa...I've been Reiki-ed once, while undergoing chemo. It was through a local non-profit center that offers a variety of services to cancer patients and survivors and the services are free. The experience was awesome, though I can't tell you why. I'm not very airy-fairy and, so, went in with a fair degree of cynicism. I left, though, feeling calm and energized and very nurtured. I'd have signed up for more treatments but my schedule got too crazy and their staff was changing.

So go ahead and enjoy! And let us know what you think!

I had Reiki and found it did seem to help me overcome feelings of stress and being unable to cope. It can have the most extraordinary effect. Lie back and enjoy it.

Count me as another one who has been "Reiki-ed". I had two sessions while undergoing chemo. I had been suffering from alot of stress and anxiety. The first one was very relaxing and I came away from the second one with the feeling of "I'm gonna be OK".

    I highly recommend it.

As the others have said, I find Reiki calming and relaxing. It's more of an energy-healing/balancing than a massage - the practitioner places their hand on you and then leaves them still for a few minutes before moving to another spot (head, shoulders, legs, etc.).

I had Reiki the day before my first chemo. As I was visualizing the healing energy traveling through my body, I realized that, instead of fearing chemo as something toxic I needed to open to it as an instrument of healing. This was extremely helpful to me during treatment.

I've been amazed. It's helped with hot flashes and with pain and a little with emotional trauma. For me, it really depends on who is doing it.

Reminds me I want to call for an appointment!

    Tina,

I am a male with bc that has met to my bones. I am currently seeing someone that is doing energy field therapy.

If you have the time, you can add me to your list. I have mets to my ribs, spine, pelvis and legs. I am taking pain pills during the day to help with the bone and muscle pain. Apparently, I have a tumor where my groin muscle attaches to my pelvis. This is my good leg. I had titanium rods put into my left leg in Dec 06. It was ready to shatted when discovered. I also have lower back pain. My L5 vertebre was 2/3 to 3/4 tumor and had to have bone cement to prevent my spine from deforming or collapsing.

    I appreciate your support,
    Mike

Mike, you are on my list.

It is especially lonely for men as bc is always thought of as a women's disease. I know this is an additional burden for you.

Please know that I am thinking of you and sending you positive energy. Some people call this love. We are all connected.

    Tina,

Thank you! It has been a tough couple of years. BC May 05, mets to bones and surgeries Dec 06 and new spots May 07. I also had a divorce thrown in during the middle of all of this for good measure.

However, the support from family, friends, coworkers and people in general has been incredible. I also have twin 18 yr daughters who are wonderful. And I can't forget about my buddy Jake, my chocolate lab.

I read a good book recently - 'Tuesdays with Morrie' There was a story about an ocean wave that became frightened when he saw the other waves crashing onto the shore. He was then reminded that he was not just a wave, but a part of the ocean. We are all connected.

My energy field therapist has helped me to keep things in perspective with techniques to deal with my thoughts and emotions as well as the energy work. I have made a lot of progress, but there is always more to learn.

I really appreciate your love and support. It takes a lot to beat Cancer. We need to attack it from all sides to be successful.

Thank you again for your support,
    Mike

I just had my first Reiki session today and I'm a fan. I have signed up for three more sessions. I felt calm, serene and my head feels clear, moreso than the previous four months.
I just finished AC and start Taxol on 8/13. I'm hoping it helps me cope with potential SE and the stress of defeating this disease.

I am a Reiki Master and do hands on healing. I have seen extraordinary results with Reiki on breast cancer. In some cases, the patient developed ulcers on the skin of the breasts which went away and subsequently the tumor markers went down almost into remission. My clients are amazed and say that it is the Reiki that has given them the greatest results.
Has anyone else had an experience like this? I'm curious.

    Hi "handsonehealing",

Reiki is one of many healing practices that focus on the elements of "energy" and "one on one" touch. It is impossible to "possess" this energy....only to "share" it....and naming this energy is a form of possession that excludes the concepts of others. I like to think of the energy as the environmentally friendly aspect of human interaction and condition. The energy knows no "time" and can be reached ever.

We use Reiki throughout life .... life that included illness. It is my experience that this practice is ever helpful. I would, however, never suggest that this practice in, and of itself, is the only modality toward good health. Speaking from my own experience, this practice sustains many aspects of my own life and, when shared, enriches the lives of others.

I leave the "measure" to others such as the scientists who research such matters. (a book "Why God Won't Go Away"...written by a doc at UofP).
