Yes it is usually covered. Be sure to call your insurance and get a referral for the fitting. Sometimes they are condsider out of network. Then after you decide on the prostheses, call them again to inform them what you have choosen. This is what my insurance is having me do at this time.

I live in NC, also. My insurance covers prostheses and bras. I went in for fitting yesterday actually. The fitter called the insurance to find out what they're cover, how many and how often & amt of deductible. I didn't have to do a thing, which was great for a change.

I just spoke with my insurance yesterday...
I explained that some gals get 2/year and no one from their office can comment how many we are entitled to. Her comment was that as of the 1998 law, they cannot regulate how many you are "entitled" to...so especially if you get a doc's Rx for it, you can probably get as many as you "need." I don't really know how they define that.
I'm going flat, but I asked incase I changed my mind.

my insurance pays 80% of my bras and prosthesis. i am allowed four bras and 2 prosthesis per year. the camisole i will pay out of my pocket.the prosthetic store files the paperwork for me. will go monday to be measured. insurance company says i have to get prosthetics and bras after my surgery not before.
