FL get together?

Lori K,
I'm interested in a FL get together, but we are so spread out in our long state it seems hard to for us gals to gather. Aren't you futher up in the state? I'm in SW FL and currently don't feel like I have the time or energy to travel too far away. -
Hi Linda and Lori:
It would be great if we organize a get together since I've seen this topic come up more than once. I was thinking a good time and place would be September 29 in downtown Tampa at the Hyatt Regency. There is a breast cancer conference being held which is sponsored by a group, FACTORS, at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. There is a $25 registration fee and it's open to the public.
I first heard about it last year when I was dx'd and having surgery. Since I was about 10 days post-op, I was unable to attend. I have talked to several ladies who attended and they said it was a great conference.
Anyone interested? If so, I'll get more details and pass them along. I am definitely planning on going.

The conference would be a great time for a get together. I went to it last year and it was wonderful.
Cathy - I am definately going this year and would love to meet up.
What do you think ladies? Anyone interested?
Sue -
Cathy,
This is a great idea. Sounds like Sue and I are up for this, Lori are you?
Let's count on it.
Linda -
count me in!
How do we register for the conference/hotel? I don't go to Moefitt for treatment. I'll ask the Florida women on the Mets thread if they are interested in meeting. -
I am a patient at Moffitt and have the organizer's name and contact info. I had previously emailed her before posting about the conference to make sure it was open to the public. She informed me "invitations" will be going out in August. I will contact her again to get more details so we can make our arrangements.
-
I went to the conference last year- it was wonderful. I live in Palm Harbor, just across the bay from Tampa. There are approx. 25 people from FL who go into the chat rooms - some of us meet regularly. We are hoping to arrange a FL get-together sometime in the near future. Will keep you posted.
-
choca:
Which chat room? I've only ventured to the message board and haven't participated in the chat rooms. Would like to participate.
Cathy -
Cathy,
go to top of this page and you will see a Chat Rooms link. Then just register and come and join us There is usually always someone in there. We are generally in the Treatment and Beyond room. I am there most evenings - but be warned, it can get pretty crazy there in the evening. Don't let that put you off though. Wonderful bunch of ladies in there.

Cathy, I posted thisd invitation to the conference on the mets thread and two women are intersted in going and meeting also. So I guess we have a plan!! Once the invitations go out, we should discuss more definate plans. I'll PM you with me address to forward it to the organizer. I'll invite the Mets ladies over to this thread. I would like to get in on a chat also but never did it before. I guess there's always a first time!!

Hi ladies:
I got a flyer from FACTORS, the support group at Moffitt, that is sponsoring the conference. You will need to call this #, 813-745-2463 and give them your name & address. You will be mailed an invitation late July/first of Aug.
This support group has a website which is www.moffitt.org/factors. They may have info regarding the conference there also....I haven't checked it out yet.
Look forward to meeting all who plan on attending!
Cathy -
Hey Florida ladies, count me in! I live in Ocala. Am planning to meet a fellow sister from KY next Sunday. She is vacationing near Orlando and Boo (Sue from Tampa) and I are going for margaritas by the pool. Would love to meet new sisters living near by. Marsha
-
Well, count me in ! I am in Palm Harbor (a few miles north of Clearwater Beach)
Actually, there are several chatters who live in West Central Florida area.
Marsha - have a wonderful time - big hugs to you all. -
Hi All! Hope you have contacted FACTORS at Moefitt to get an invitation to the conference! As it gets closer, we should get into the planning stage but until then...have a great summer and keep cool!
-
i am in tampa also---took down the number posted --will call moffitt tomorrow. would love to meet more florida ladies
-
Hey Fl ladies! Sounds like fun. I am seven hours away in Pensacola and have a 10 and 12 year old who will be in school but if there is any way I can make it I will be there. Take care!
-
pensacola...I'm in Tallahassee and have a 12 yr old son and two daughters, 18 and 21!!
-
FLloriK-are you going to try to make the conference? I guess I will research it as well to see what it is all about. Do you ever hit the chat rooms?
-
yes i am. maybe we can drive together or something like that. it would be nice to have company in the car!
-
sorry, no I don't like the chat rooms because it seems to go too fast for me. sorry? where are you with your treatments? hope you are feeling well!
-
I tried to find info online for the conference and could not find anything. Do you have a website or link to the info? I know what you mean about the chat rooms. They really get busy and a lot of the women have known each other for ever. I think it is funny to watch someone, including myself, try to get in on the conversation and everyone ignores you! LOL! I am actually six years out in October...yeah for me! How are you doing?
-
Vay, so sorry you feel ignored hon - I try not to ignore anyone in the chatroom -but as you know, it gets very busy and is sometimes difficult to keep up with all conversations.
You just gotta jump in and be pushy LOL -
Hey Choca! I know, that is what I tell everyone. You are actually very gracious with your "chatting" and I thank you! It really does not bother me...I think it is funny....I just know that sometimes there have been women who really needed to talk and could not be heard. There is only so much you can do when there are so many of us! We just need to learn how to be speed readers! See ya in the jungle!!
-
went to St George Island this past week. The beach was beautiful but was disappointed in the water. It was Hot!!! There was also alot of jelly fish and some stingrays. Have you ever experienced any of this? We ended up taking cold showers at the bath house to cool off. We did see dolphins swimming by. Any one down south having jelly fish problems in the Gulf? Or it just a panhandle problem?
-
I live in palm Beach county anyone else!!!??
-
If any of those of you who are traveling to Tampa from further afield for the conference need somewhere to stay for a night or two - please let me know. I live about 1/2 hr drive from Tampa and I have a couple of spare beds. Just drop me a private message or email me: choca1117@aol.com
Last year, the hotel at which the conference was held did offer rooms at a special rate. It was still expensive though! Parking wasn't cheap either. -
Melanie48 - I am not in PB county but live in Jensen Beach - so very close! My sister lives in PB Gardens but she is not on the boards (although she had BC 3 tmes so you would think she would want to be!) Cindie
-
Choca, That is so nice of you to offer. Thank you from all of us travelers. As time gets closer, I will get in touch with you. Thanks again!
-
A few of us ladies from the chat room are going to meet for lunch at the Cheesecake Factory in Tampa (International Plaza) on Saturday, July 28. We are planning on meeting at about 11:30 am. If anyone would like to join us, all are welcome.
Just email me choca1117@aol.com so we know to expect you.
Hugs
Elaine -
I got my invitation to the Conference today. Looking forward to it
