My daughter got a text last night from a friend....'Meet us on the lawn of blah-blah place where we are sipping our Kombucha tea.' Your what tea? My daughter says it's quite the rage....balances ones innards and strengthens immunity. Even rumored to cure cancer (of course, right?). I wonder why I've never heard of this before? Has anyone here tried it?

I remember it being popular about 10 yrs ago. I had a friend who drank it, but I don't remember if I tried it or not. I'm sure I must have, but it didn't leave a lasting impression, I guess. Sorry, I can't be of more help.

Marin, Towanda2 had a Kombuchu thread a couple months ago.
It had all the claims, plus the fact that Kombuchu is a fermented product, like Kim Chee, sourkraut, yogurt (not the same I know).
But the good bacteria are indeed good for us.
I , after the thread, began to buy it at Whole Foods. For $2.99 a bottle of 16 oz, it better be good for me!!
Lots of people use a bottle as one dose.Rich people.I use a third of a bottle.
I do feel pretty good, and am not flagging in packing etc, for my move.
(I'm aso taking bee energy product, so who knows which one, or if it's both.)
The taste is NOT delicious.
The Kombucha mushroom is fermented. So, a sourish taste. The company, Synergy, puts out lots of sweet flavors, Mango, Berry, Grape, to mask the sour taste.I like Ginergade, which is the least sweet.I'd not recommend it for "beginners" unless you like your yogurt unflavored.
The fermentation also puts out a tad of alcohol--enough to make the drink fizz like mad & blow the top if you shake it too hard.(Instructions say Shake GENTLY.)
My first bottle I shook it like a milkshake and lost most of the bottle.WF gave me anlther, although it my MY fault for not reading the instructions.
So that's my story about Kombuchu.
Try it, so you wont be missing anything.(Like all natural suppliments, Kombuchu takes a while before results are noticed.) -
LOL Joan, I've just started taking Vitamin D cuz you said it gave you more energy!
I tried the Synergy Kombucha, 1/2 -1 bottle a day for a
couple of weeks but I can't say I noticed any difference. I liked the berry and grape flavors.
I don't know, I have a hard time believing in cure-alls, plus as Joan said it's pricey. On the other hand, it may be good for general health, and it's been used in Asian cultures forever. -
I drink a Yogi decaf green tea with kombucha. Yummy.
I don't believe in the hype of any of the products that, as I tend to say, tell you you'll be tall, blond, healthy and wealthy as a result of eating/drinking/rubbing on/selling their product.
Besides, I ate acai every day for 6 months in Brazil shortly before my diagnosis and what did it do for me? Probably was what caused me to gain a couple of pounds when I was living there! -
Joan - HA! You really crack me up! (in a good way...)
Okay, my opinion.....
I've tried the Synergy brand and I don't like it! I do, however, like Kombucha Wonder Drink (www.wonderdrink.com) in the asian pear & ginger flavor. It has oolong tea in it and it tastes kind of beer-like. It's carbonated. Not all W.F. carry that brand but it can be ordered (by the case witha 5% case discount). It's not as sweet nor as ucky as the Synergy brand in my opinion.
I DO get a bit of a burst of energy (cleansing?) when I down one (a 8.5 oz. bottle) but don't do it often, only when I'm really tired or hung-over or have been eating poorly. It's expensive but worth it - IMO.

p.s. Joan, if you get thee to Chicago I'll take you a-shoppin' and buy you some good stuff at a great discount! -
Marin,
I know people who buy it all the time and have raved about it so I bought some different ones at Whole Foods.
Does not taste very good. I drink a lot of cranberry juice. It's great for our system. -

WOW!!!!That might be an offer I cant refuse!!I've never been to Chicago...
And I'd get to meet this brave, beautiful woman, in person!!
Thanks {{{JBird}}}!!!! -
Thanks, y'all, but this sounds too gross to me! I'm still having trouble drinking enough water after chemo made it taste like sewage. I know that the healthiest option is to choose the food or drink over a pill/supplement, but I'm hoping that some of these energy-boosting and healthy drinks will come out in pill form. No muss, no fuss, ya know?

Thanks to Joan's advise a few weeks ago---I finally went to WF
and picked up a bottle of Kombucha tea. The only brand my WF had was CARPE DIEM---It was cool and tolerable and pricey----still a little hard for me to get down but doable-----
It was doable until I got to my other Tuesday stop that happens on days I frequent Whole Foods-
---My latest addiction on the way home----
Korean Fried Chicken-----and if you are a fried chicken afficianado----this chicken will spoil any other fried chicken for you for life!!!!------Okay so its not health food-----
Sometimes you just have to do something for your soul!
But following it with a swig of Kombucha tea has to be one of the foulest things I've ever tasted. UGGGGGGGGGG!
Definately called for a ice cold Brewsky!
My other procurements for the day- 20 bars of Chilies and Cherries Dark Chocolate by Chocolove
20 containers of Woodstock Water buffulo milk yogurt (vermont maple)
I make the greek style myself using total as a starter.
What can I tell you ---I can't get used to shopping like this is the last time I'll ever leave the house.
I think I'll let this one go unless it proves to be miracle drink.

Susie.... Chilies and Cherries Dark Chocolate? Tell me it doesn't have chili peppers as well as cherries..?!
Marin -
Yup! Chilie peppers--To be precise Ancho Chilies and Chipotle chilies. You can taste the bite. Its delicious. You
have to be careful though because the Cherries and choccolate without the chili is also in almost the exact packaging (red
wrapper) ------the only difference is the word chilies.
Yes, I buy this stuff as if I was preparing for Noah's Ark. LOL
Susie,
Now you've done it. I had to open another bar. Yum!
OMG, too late ---I've just downed the whole thing! -
I love the chocolove stuff - (mostly the name!) Going to have to try the cherry/chillies stuff since I'm going to Whole Foods today.
