I posted this in the wrong forum the first time. Hope I got it right now.I had an excisional biopsy on Friday and I'm hoping it is just scar tissue. It is in the original tumor site. If it is a local recurrence what would the treatment be? I know I cant have rads twice. Thanks

Jackie,
It depends on what your treatment was with the first go round. I had a .2cm IDC, no node involvement, mastectomy w/reconstruction and put on tamoxifen the first time - 2/06. 3/07 found a different feeling lump in my reconstructed breast near my scar line - turned out to be 3.5cm IDC - surgeon says local recurrence. Had pet scan - came back clear except for the reconstructed breast, had re-excision surgery 4/27 to remove tumor and started chemo 6/1/07. My first cancer was er+/pr+/her2+, recurrence is er-/pr-/her2+ so I am doing 4 Adriamycin/Cytoxan (infusiions every 3 weeks) then 12 weekly Taxol/herceptin infusions, then start 6 1/2 weeks radiation and continue with the herceptin infusions every 3 weeks. Kindof throwing it all at me this time since I'm not showing any mestases at this point.
You are right you can't have rads twice and I believe they only allow so much of certain drugs per person in their lifetime.
I'm hoping for you it's just scar tissue but as I'm learning, there are always more treatments to help us.
Let me know what's up!

Hi Dawn, my original dx was 8-06 IDC 1.5cm, ER and PR 100% Her2 elevated but neg, clear nodes but not clean margins. Reexcision 8-22-06, 33 rads, hyst/ooph and now on Femara.
My onc said I should hear something by wednesday (so hard to wait). I'll let you know what happens.

Hey Jackie!
I'll be watching for a response!!
Have patience - I HATE the waiting game!!

Hi Dawn, I just got the call from my onc and it is good news. They said that it was scar tissue from rads but there were also some atypical cells that concerened them so they ran some more tests and decided that those cells were also changes from rads. Hope everything works out well for you also. Keep me posted.
