O.K. What does anyone know about where most melatonin is manufactured? I wrote to the company located in Italy about the only product available in my country and they emailed me that the country of origin for this synthetic melatonin is China. Does anyone know of brands that are manufactured elsewhere? I don't have a lot confidence in Chinese health products. I will be in the States for the next month and can buy an alternative melatonin when I am there. Thanks.

I asked at Vitamin World and they assured me that their melatonin is manufactured in the USA. Don't know if Shaklee has straight melatonin but they are known also for their purity.

I started taking melatonin last night at 2.5 mg because I have trouble sleeping on Arimidex. I did my research and it seems to be OK to take melatonin according to Constantine's site at breastcancer/evidence watch and Sloan Memorial and Ketterings plant/herbs list. Melatonin also seems to be OK according to MD Anderson's CIMER site; however, there is one mention on the MD Anderson site that concerns me regarding hormones. Would love some feedback on whether any of you have been told melatonin can affect your hormone levels.

Endocrine (hormonal effects): Hormonal effects are reported, including decreases or increases in levels of luteinizing hormone, progesterone, estradiol, thyroid hormone (T4 and T3), growth hormone, prolactin, cortisol, oxytocin and vasopressin, although there are other reports of no significant hormonal effects. Variations may occur based on underlying patient characteristics. Gynecomastia (increased breast size) has been reported in men, as well as decreased sperm count (both which resolved with cessation of melatonin). Decreased sperm motility has been reported in rats and humans.

mcgaffrey---recently my pcp told me to stop malatonin since it comes from China and there is no regulation on supplements from China, so it could be risky.

awb, I suspect your PCP could benefit from some classes on supplements. Best wishes!
P.S. Fancy recently did some research on this and responded to it...when I find her response, I'll post the link.
Found it...it is on the Hormone Therapy board under a post about melatonin. Scroll down to two posts by Fancy2.
